William Zellers | Boston Bruins Prospect Profile
Well, the off seasonason for the Bruins is here and I wanted to continue to give the viewers updates on the prospects in the Boston Bruins system. We’ve learned this season that a retool is coming and I want to give some updates on the players in that system. Next on my list is William Zellers. So, buckle up Bruins fans. I’m here to give you the latest info on your beloved Boston Bruins. If you’ve been liking my Bruins content, please leave me a like and subscribe. if you’ve already done so. Thank you. And let’s get in. He scores. Deers was acquired by the Bruins at the trade deadline which saw Charlie Coyle headed to the Colorado Avalanche. When the break down the trade, Sweeney did an admiral job. He sent Coyle to Colorado for a second round pick, Casey Middlestat, and William Zellers. Coyle was loved in Boston, but let’s be honest here. He’s at the twilight of his career, but Zeers was a highly thought of prospect in the Colorado pool and instantly became one of the Bruins highest rated prospects in the system. Zeers was a third round pick by Colorado in 2024 at the NHL entry draft. Zellers is a 5’10”, 163 pound left winger who just won the USHL player of the year. Zeers recorded 71 points in 52 games, tallying a lead leaguing 44 goals and 27 assists with 1.3 points per game average, the highest mark for any skater this season. He was a key piece to the Gamblers’s top ranked power play, which clicked at 27.8% contributing 10 goals and 12 assists on the manavan. Despite missing 10 games in the regular season, Zellers took a league leading 214 shots with a 20.6 shooting percentage. The Minnesota native was originally committed to joining the Boston University Terriers next season, but instead he will play for the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. While it’s unfortunate he won’t be playing within arms lengths of the Bruins, his development at the collegiate ranks will be crucial next steps for Zealers. The talent Zeers possesses is undeniable. What isn’t known, however, is whether his abilities will translate as his work is way up the ranks and tries to eventually crack a professional lineup. Zeers has an innate ability to make quick plays in tight due to his great hands and smart decision-making. He’s also very good at creating plays both for himself and for his linemates when the puck is on his stick. One of the scouting reports on him says, “Zers does a wonderful job playing the puck into space and skating into them. He has legit touch and skill on the puck in small areas and has scored some created some beautiful goals across levels early in his career. I like his approach to offense and the way he uses the puck to create advantages for himself and his linemates. He can make quick plays or long ones and make good decisions about when to pace up or slow it down or hold it. He has great hands and quick adjustable release. There are some clear talent there. The question is, will it translate? But he’s also incredibly competitive kid. As Ralph told The Athletic, it’s a he’s a thorny pain in the ass. It’s easy to see him becoming a top offensive player in the college ranks, but some questions what he might in terms of NHL conversation someday. My guess is a lot of fans and scouts look at Zeller’s size and instantly think he can’t make it to the NHL. Zeers is only 19 and has a lot of strength he needs to put on, but he’s about to play a full season at the University of North Dakota. And at the college level, he’s going to learn a ton and grow as a player. You can’t always just say these kids can’t make it right away just based on their height, their size, and all that. He’s got a lot of intangibles, and he’s going to learn a ton playing in North Dakota. Size shouldn’t matter, and if he matures and develops next season, he should have a very successful college career. He isn’t a surefire NHL player, but he could be someday, and I would think his skills translate to top six player if he ever makes it to the NHL. Donatiano wrote about him and had this to say. Zeers is an elite offensive talent with a combination of skill and hockey IQ. His quick feet and ability to find gaps in coverage make him a constant threat in the offensive zone. Additionally, his excellent hands allow him to escape pressure and create time and space, whether to prolong possession or set up scoring opportunities. He’s also a wizard at eluding the opposition and getting to open ice. However, Zeers is not without his areas for improvement. His play away from the puck is a work in progress and he’s something that he should develop at UND next season. At 5’10” and just 163 lbs, he is on the lean side and will need to add strength to compete effectively at higher levels. For a team like the Bruins who are retooling phase, Zeers represents a high upside prospect worth waiting for. And as always, I have put a link in the description down below of any articles that I cite. As Bruins fans, it’s been a long time since there’s been prospects in the system to keep an eye on. And William Sellers is exactly that. He isn’t going to be in NHL anytime soon, but he’s going to continue to develop. And one day, he might wear the black and gold. I want to hear from you. What do you think of William Sellers and his potential to be a Boston Bruin? That’s a wrap on today’s video. What do you thnk of William Zellers?
One Stanley cup since Jacob’s bought the Bruins in 1975
Sounds like a young David Krejci 🙏
If this kid pans out it could be exciting for the team. Also, it 's nice to have some decent prospects that aren't just 4th liners.Like you said, It'll be awhile before we see this player come into fruition but if we can stack the prospects ranks then we may have a way back from the wilderness.
Zellers is 19.He's a kid. Both at UND and when he gets to the Baby B's they'll beef him up, and add some size. Good to see how he develops.
Seems like he has the kind of skill set .. regardless of his size .. that's needed in today's high pressure/puck attack game.
Appreciate the posts!
Small size but offensive talent for sure! That didn't stop Laine Hutson so let's hope his grit translate in the NHL.
they said similar things about Poitras, hopefully Zellers plays more with his head up, and develops quickly
As a bruins fan im just let down that it seems like it will be years before we potentially have a team that can play winning hockey
Literally no point in writing off a kid that hasn't even finished maturing yet. He'll get into the rigors of NCAA hockey; and with all the strength/conditioning resources at UND, he's sure to add size and strength.
Heck, they drafted a kid with size last year, and look what he did at BC (which won't take long, because he did virtually nothing). Speed is the name of the game in the NHL now, and size it not nearly the "kiss of death" it used to be
Truly appreciate the prospect reviews!
Don't mean to be that guy, but how many 5'10" 170 pound guys are Top 6 across the league – a small handful. How many are Top 6 on playoff teams, even smaller number.
If he becomes a great player in the near future, he could become rich enough to have his own department store!
