QUESTION OF THE DAY — Do YOU Want The Blackhawks To Pick Caleb Desnoyers With The 3rd Overall Pick?
It's going to be Hagens at three. The kid is 18 and will probably grow another inch to get to the magical six foot mark everyone freaks out about. He's fast, offensively gifted, smart, plays hard, and Kyle isn't going to pass on that. Frank Nazar is an inch, and some pounds smaller and didn't look outmatched one second the last half of the season.
Speaking of playing with sandpaper, I haven’t seen much of that with Martone, my take is he plays kind of soft.
If Schaffer and Misa are gone, I like Desnoyers, because of the smarts and leadership/character he seems to have.
Add to that killer instinct and will to win.
Ultimate speed and skill aren’t everything, look at Matthews, Marner, McDavid and Drieseidel, zero cups between them.
The mentally tough win cups, the weak disappear in the playoffs.
Desnoyers is the pick if Schaeffer and Misa is gone. Him and Frondell are the only true centers at the time in the draft. Has a floor of second line center and He's been compared to Ryan O'Reilly and Sean Courtier. TRUE NHL Centers are harder to find than wings. Right now, the Hawks have might be, but we don't know yet at center with Nazar, Moore, Boivert, and even Bedard. Plus, he wins wherever he goes. Plus was 60% at the dot.
BTW, his name is pronounced Day-Noy-yay
Yes I'd like Desnoyers at 3. Physical center…something the Hawks don't have in their young core. I think he's a riser in this draft. He has a skill that does not show up on a score sheet. He's a winner. Look at the Maple Leafs playoff. Big time stars that are not winners.
Desnoyers will never get 100 points
Draisalt comp feels insane. Draisalt is a top 5 shooter in the world and Desnoyer might not reach 20 goals. Completely different players. Danault and Lindholm are his ceiling comps to me.
Caleb Desnoyers could be similar to Antoine Vermette with a slightly higher offensive upside. He lacks explosiveness and high end skill to be a franchise cornerstone type player. But he could have a good 10 plus year career. I'm not sure you draft that at #3. I can understand the Toews comp in terms of play style, but Jonathan Toews at the same age was way more explosive and offensively skilled than Desnoyers. Toews had that extra skating gear to blow by defenders. Desnoyers does not have that. Vermette is a much more reasonable comp imo. I think Michael Misa is a more accurate comp to Toews than Desnoyers.
I like to watch the all shifts videos of these prospects as opposed to the highlights. It gives you a more complete idea of their games and skills.
His plus minus will tell us a lot.
No I would not. Wouldn't you take Frondell before him?
