  1. What's really strange ny media says he was involved in all aspects but word out of nhl office is that darche was involved in specifically in cap management and contract extension. Darche interviewed with 7 teams over the last 2+ years for gm position but was always found lacking which is a red flag . Teams viewed his experience as too 1 dimensional. Also word got around that he proposed some trades that were viewed around the league as strange. He is the perfect candidate for a team that is already a playoff team that needs to get over the hump NOT the person you hire to rebuild an entire organization

  2. 🚩 about Darche for me is that he was passed over so many times previously. It's not like he interviewed 2 or 3 times. Well it's gonna be interesting that's for sure.

  3. Toronto couldn't have traded the core 4 or there would have been hell to pay by the unsufferable fans and media – unless you live in Toronto you will never understand. To this day the thought of trading Matthews and not signing back Tavs, sets Twitter fires. BUT the Leafs/Raptors have a new owner, and he just bought the Blue Jays – and he is cleaning house. Massi Ujiri for the president for the Raps is under a large microscope and he has term left in his contract – strong talk of him being fired, along with the GM – and for the Jays, it's already been hinted at, if no post-season, goodbye. The new owner wants chips, and thinks he can break the Leafs curse after nobody else could for 58 big ones (their coach was almost fired after 1 successful season) for New Yorkers to blame the President (not the GM) but the president to not be able to break the Leaf curse all while holding him captive to trading the core 4, is not a clear understanding of the situation however a few lines read or heard on update news articles from a far. If Shanny's contract wasn't up – he might not have been told to look elsewhere – trust me, most people in T.O aren't happy Shanny is gone aside from a few jack-asses hee-hawin' on Twitter.

  4. This is actually good news. I'm glad the Isles decision makers had come to this point proactively and not hiring Darche because Shanahan wasn't available. I would have been OK w Shanahan as well, but I like the fact that Darche was associated with a franchise with a history of regular AND post season success.

  5. First thing is first and Chris LAmarillo must be fired along with the coaches and staff of the Bridgeport Islanders . Schaefer must be picked number one at all costs. You can’t get this wrong. The Islanders are in desperate need of the new franchise defenseman

  6. I heard a rumor Shanahan was making $7M dollars, if this is the case, this would probably be too rich for the Isles' blood given some of the tightening budget due to low ticket sales (example being eliminating the radio show). Plus, they would need to spend another $3M+ for the GM too. My guess is that the salary was a no-go from the beginning.

  7. As someone who has been pro Shanahan for a long time, I am also good with Darche. He is a young exec at 48 and should bring some new ideas to a team that definitely needs some new ideas. Will we regret not hiring Shanahan? I truly hope Darche will prove to be the right decision and can't wait to see what is in store for this team.

  8. I'm happy we didn't hire Shanahan. He made too many mistakes and locked himself into a pure scoring team with very little will power. All those blanket no trade clauses will hurt Toronto when Marner sails away and they get nothing in return. I call it Karma for Tavaris lying his way into free agency and avoiding being a rental. "I don't think a team should have to subtract to add". What a twat. Now we get to see how much of a pay cut he'll take to keep sleeping under his favorite blankie.
I assume Collins will have his hand deep in hockey operations. If that's the case, and Darche is ok with that, I am too.
First thing I would do is erase the "Ooooo, and it's alright and it's comin' on

We gotta get right back to where we started from…" tape that Toronto and the Isles blast as their close out song. I guess that was a Lou thing.
After Lou left, Marner and Matthews wanted to change the old school dress and grooming code Lou loved. Numbers too. Seeing the Isles show some personality would be a welcome change.

  9. Darche is the best pick. No need for Shanahan at this point. Can always add some as POHO down the road. Great hire!
