My concern about Marner would be if , for instance the Jackets signed him, what if his point total was his career average of 93 points, while other Jackets players continued to build on this year's success. Zach Werenski went from 57 points to 82 points, Kirill Marchenko went from 42 points to 74 points. Adam Fantilli improved from 27 points to 54 points and finally, Kent Johnson improved from 16 points to 57 points and he missed 16 games. On that average, he'd have reached 69 points.
So suppose all those players improve by 20 points (save for Werenski, let's say he improves by 10). Suddenly we'd have a bunch of players with numbers very close to Marners that would be comparing their numbers to his and demanding as much money. That's what got Toronto in trouble. Tavares never approached the numbers he posted his first year in Toronto again. As guys like Nylander, Matthews and Marner put up better numbers, they had the right to demand more money than Tavares was getting. The Leafs fourth highest paid forward this year was Marner at $10.93 million. The fifth highest paid forward was Max Domi at $3.75 million. That's a better than $7 million dollar disparity between 4th and 5th place on your payroll. In that regard, the Leafs became too top heavy and couldn't afford decent depth players that could contribute from the bottom six. as a result, when the core four wasn't scoring, nobody was.
As for the Fabbro contract, I don't think Waddell wants to pay Fabbro more than the $3 million a year he just signed Matthieu Olivier for. Fabbro is coming of a one year $2.5 million dollar deal. I doubt Waddell wants to pay him more than $3 million.. In the end, who do you think is worth more to the Blue Jackets, Olivier or Fabbro?

Do you think Marner would go to Buffalo? He’s a huge Buffalo Bills fan and Buffalo is close to Toronto and his family. In Buffalo the fans and media put no pressure on the team to win so he won’t be annoyed with Canadian media. Buffalo can fit him on the cap easy. Tage Thompson would be slick with Marner

If you use the theory of reuniting Marner with thachuck and Dvorak. Marchand will sign a one year 2 mill to stay in Florida for another run. 3rd line mins. No taxes. Draft youth and don’t do the trade with Boston. Bring up minors or resign nosek and you’re all set. Florida wants at least 3 mill in space for next year’s run. If they get what they want. Hell even marner at 11/8 money to guarantee cups in Florida is better.
