I agree. “The code” would say if it goes to the ice you let each other get up, OR you might get a face wash or some small shots in. Nothing major. Both are competitors….The Refs and the league need to get ahold of the playoffs before someone has a career ending injury. Look at landeskog for how easy it can’t happen, and look and price for how it can affect a team.
Considering how Scheifele falls back, I’d say he is pulling Benn’s skate and it’s not Benn pushing with his skate. Scheifele then clearly pulls his own leg back and extends it to make contact with Benn. That’s called a kick, not a push. It’s also extremely dangerous whether it’s a kick or push because KNIFE SHOES. Player Safety needs to take another look at this and issue a matching fine.
Benn wasn’t holding Scheifele’s legs, so what reason does he have to “push” him? Mark took it a little too far w that unprovoked kick and he got socked in the face for it.
I think context is important here. Per your own video, Benn jerks his foot "in a kicking motion" to get his foot free. And its a tough angle to tell, but it doesn't look like it even makes any contact. On the other hand, what's Scheifele's excuse? What possible reason could he have to "a pushing motion" with his foot other than to use it as a weapon? And he clearly does make contact. I don't know if you can argue these are the same
It is impossible to know what the players felt in the situation. It is possible Benn didn’t realize he ”kicked”, but he might have felt being ”kicked” him self which could have caused the temper to flare with the sucker punch.
Not saying that it justifies the punch, but it is just something we can’t know especially with the video being so crowded and unlcear.

Hey "Tough Call"… I'd say your "call" is dubious, at best. Mark Scheifele was quite obviously kicking at Jamie Benn, whether it was retaliatory or not. But that's OK… we all saw how it ended. It was entertaining to see Scheifele get the "FO" part of FAFO😁😁😁
If youre going to say Shiefele was "pushing" Benn with his skate, when he clearly extends his blade into Benn, you could also argue Benn was merely "pushing" Shiefele's face by extending his fist into it.

Bottom line? Jamie Benn dropped Sheiffle like a bag of dirt.
