Tage Thompson Scores Golden Goal at 2025 IIHF World Championship

[Applause] Tage Thompson, the native of Glendale, Arizona, snaps it by Jenoni and the United States, has won the World Hockey Championship. [Applause] There were Olympic gold medals in the intervening time, but as far as a pure world championship concerned, is their first gold since 1933. And for the Swiss, it is heartbreak again. Four gold medal game losses in the last 13 years. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] But for the United States, the youngest team in the tournament, a core of young players who’ve been together for under 18 and World Junior wins. They’ve done it at the senior level now. And this is what happens. You get playing threeon three, little bit of room, bit of twoonone and a half. And Ta Thompson has been looking all game to get to a spot where he could shoot it. He’s had a few cracks. He was sending them over the net. Target was not quite right. But in the biggest moment, it was had to happen. Dragged to change the angle and just slings it past the block of Sea Taller. Oh, look at that. Right over the blocker. One of the best shooters in the NHL. 44 goals last year and the one in this game. His second overtime winner of the World Championship. And Tae Thompson, who came here as a man on a mission, wasn’t selected for the Four Nations roster for the US, wanted to prove he could do it at the top level.
