A Washington Capitals fan here but my second favorite team is Edmonton and I so wanted to see a Edmonton versus Toronto Stanley Cup ! Man that would’ve been so fun ..so I was rooting for you guys.. but I gotta say this sounds like a lot of entitled fans…The crap & heartbreak that I went through with Washington Capitals.. losing year after year after year in the 1st or 2nd round. I’m telling you that last game and series mirrored what happened to the caps back in 2009 when a lot of people thought they were gonna go to the cup.. let’s take a look back.. the caps jumped up 2-0 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins & that second game I was there when both Ovechkin and Crosby scored dueling hat tricks! Holy crap that crowd was so loud that day.. And then the Caps proceeded to lose 3 straight games go down three games to two everybody had them done. They’re going into Pittsburgh. No way they’re gonna win. Guess what they won and now everybody’s thinking this is it. They’re gonna get past the seventh game! nope they got blown out just like you guys did. I’m telling you that year and this year these two series mirror each other Kind of spooky.Lol But 2018 everything changed and we got past our main nemesis that’s the Penguins. I think Boston is obviously your guys? & won our first Stanley Cup… I don’t know in the beginning of the playoffs this year… a lot of so-called experts and analyst had the Panthers going to the Stanley Cup, a lot of people did not have the Maple leafs going very far to even get remotely to the Stanley Cup or close to it so again maybe a little entitlement there with the fans.. that shouldn’t be there but I do get you being upset about the effort.. I think that’s why most of you are upset and hey back in 2009 when the caps got blown out by the Penguins in game seven, they came out strong in the first 10 minutes and all collapsed after there… I think there’s too much panicking going on with the fans and let’s face it if your being goalie did not get hurt who knows how that would win although I do think Woll played very well at times, but he definitely gave up some very soft goals, but every goaltender does.. I don’t care how great you are..Oh! The Pittsburgh Penguins, I’m not sure what they’re still trying to do. I think they need to do a semi rebuild like the capitals did this year I think they actually got older last year. I don’t think Mitch Marner would be a good pick up for them now I would have no problem if Austin came to play with Ovechkin on perhaps his final year but now there’s talk he might wanna play a couple more years? Anyway! Hang in there Maple leaf fans you guys still have a pretty darn good team maybe go out and get a few more pieces to that puzzle they will make you guys a true contender!
I don't hear anyone saying the D that Treliving built let in 6 goals TWICE! This is not on Marner. The management of the team is brutal, The leafs need a 2C and 3C who can score, That's not on Marner.
Why is all talk about marner. Auston Mathews was worse. Injured or not he wasn't good enough. If injury was affecting maybe should have been replaced. I blame coaching staff caise this team was not emotionally prepared to handle pressure. Felt like leafs had no amswer to Florida's pressure and hard hitting. There was no Strategy to handle the heat
I don't understand this mentality. It's brain rot mentality. I don't see a reason why Matthews can't simply tell us he is injured. That doesn't mean he has to follow up the statement with "that's why we lost" or something like that. He can simply address the fact that his wrist was causing him sever discomfort. That doesn't mean it's an excuse. If he's injured he's injured. The playoffs are over anyway. Does it matter now? He could have easily taken accountability at the same time. I don't see how these things can't be mutually exclusive… Hockey is a very punishing sport. It's not really that shocking that he's been playing through a serious injury.

Marner is one guy. I didn't think he played bad at all. He's more of a setup guy really and the amount of plays he fed guys that whiffed is dumb. Austin deserved more blame but at the end of the day this team just isn't deep enough. You need depth other than Domi they had no secondary scoring. Tbh they should be looking hard at moving on from Riley since signing that extension he's been a shadow of himself. With the cap going up and Marners money plus the couple of million when JT takes a discount 5 million or so per. They can load up with high drive guys who can chip in and play with a bit of an edge. There are a few they just gotta convince them to play in Toronto. All this dumb fan shit is what's killing it for the team to sign guys. Mitch leaving means Austin and Willy need to step up and lead this team something I have yet to see from either of them. But that's why they make the big money now they just need to earn it. Tbh it's not the end of the world losing Mitch for nothing now the GM has money to work with and though free agency has no stars there are guys that could definitely help this team succeed. And no not Marchant, ppl mentioning him need to have their heads checked.
The only option left is seeking out the canadian, Brad Marchand, as crazy as it sounds.
You prob won't find a serious cup contender willing to take Marner, but teams like Utah, Chi, San Jose, maybe NYR or Buff etc
Matthews left over a million a season on the table, McDavid and Draisaitl have both left money on the table. Syd has done it, Pasternak and Marchand did it, MacKinnon did it. They all did so their teams could beef up their rosters, Mitch refused to do the same and seems hell bent on not doing it again this time around.
Leafs finesse style hockey works for Regular season hockey…..But NOT Playoff hockey! Its a whole different beast…( which includes a panther )
Getting some size with grit on their team will help them in the playoffs…This will help win some battles against the boards, in the corners and in front of the net…including protecting their own net…we need some big physical defensemen too!
This will also help open up the game for the finesse players.

The media in Canada feasts on the Leafs every time there is a set back. Toronto fans turn on the players whenever things don't go perfect. The players look like they have a gun to their head when they speak to the media. And people wonder why this team has a failure complex.

As a die hard Ranger fan I understand the frustration Leaf fans are feeling. I think it's a special athlete that can perform under the pressure and the expectations these huge contracts bring. Also, it takes a whole different mentality to win in the playoffs, gets down to discipline, playing within your system, solid goaltending, and lots of grit from every player. Rangers have struggled with the 'grit' for decades.
Why is everybody surprised that Auston Mathhews goes into siesta time in the playoffs every year… He is a Mexican so there shouldn't be any surprise
