The Athletic’s Corey Pronman previews 2025 NHL Draft class

On the latest episode of the Blackhawks Breakaway Podcast, The Athletic’s NHL Draft expert Corey Pronman joins Pat Boyle and Charlie Roumeliotis to preview the 2025 draft class. Are Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa the clear-cut picks at Nos. 1 and 2? Could Misa realistically fall to Chicago at No. 3? Is Porter Martone the biggest risk among the top-tier forwards? What would centers Caleb Desnoyers or Anton Frondell bring to the Blackhawks if selected? And why has James Hagens gone from projected No. 1 overall to possibly sliding outside the top three? Corey breaks it all down and more. Plus, Pat and Charlie react to his analysis and debate whether itโ€™s finally Edmontonโ€™s year to win the Stanley Cup.

  1. Frondell isn't a significantly better skater than Martone. It's odd that Pronman says the Blackhawks prioritize skating and then mocks the Hawks drafting Frondell.

  2. Why would you draft a better skating version of Lundell at #3 overall? You can find guys like that later in the draft. I'm not sure Desnoyers is much better than Sacha Boisvert. Boisvert had more goals as a 16 year old in the USHL (a better league than the Q).

  3. Pronman is a moron. He put Nazar in 14th place๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก
    Trust his predictions๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก๐Ÿคก
Desnoyers has added a lot since the start of the draft . And now it is considered by many as the next great two-way center

  4. Desnoyers had 84pts. Martone had 98pts in a better league and is a much more talented offensive player. Why do people overthink this?

  5. I want them to draft the most talented offensive upside who can score, the system in regards to the forwards is bottom 6 heavy besides obviously Bedard and Nazar, they lack size and I think Bedard needs a running mate beside him. If they can find that in the draft thatโ€™s great, but they need to make a big trade or sign a big free agent which is the least likely but something needs to be done to take some of the pressure off of Bedard, Nazar looks to be the real deal but they need to add more

  6. Martone gets around the ice quickly. His NHL teammates arenโ€™t going to be standing around waiting for him.

  7. if misa is gone, hagens or martone!! i lean hagens. hagens' size is fine, he weighs the same as desnoyers does atm. when he adds 10lbs of muscle he's pretty much going to be the same size as players like marner, pastranak, ehlers, kaprizov, panerin, aho. imo the hawks would be better served focusing on (elite) scoring over versatility at #3 overall.

  8. Worth noting on Frondell and all hawks fans should know this name…he is learning from Marcus Krueger, one of the elite bottom 6/shutdown NHL center (hawks don't win multiple cups without him)

  9. Does the Islanders really want Hagen? Should the Hawks stand pat or give up a assest and pick.?

  10. Grier said that we arenโ€™t at the point where weโ€™re going to draft for need. Weโ€™re still in best player available mode. Misa goes second if Schaefer goes first

  11. Can we see Pronman's updated list for free (if yes where?) or do we have to pay/subscribe to the athletic/Ny Times ?

  12. Lots of mostly objective analysis from Pronman in this interview. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Lots of subjective and biased hot takes in the comments section. ๐Ÿ’ฉ
