It was time for Brendan to move on. I susoect the next few years could be difficult.
The Shanaplan is dead. It was a miserable joke. The Leafs are a miserable joke and its really because of Shanahan. He SHOULD NOT have received a 6 year extension previously.

I am a Steelers fan, and we are having the same problem. In the past winning and competing for championships was all that mattered. Now too many people are happy with average or just above average. Why rock the boat, we could get worse, why risk it to get better, blah, blah, blah. I think it is a reflection of society as a whole. In the past people wanted to rely on themselves and make it on their own merit. Now people whine about the rich and want the government to fix all their problems. Average is the new greatness.
Look at Florida they look unstoppable the Ballard curse is real to loose in 7 again is hard bad luck???
With Shanahan gone, I am now afraid that Leafs might actually bring in pieces that will help them in playoffs

It was the right decision when Dubas came out and said this team doesn’t have what it takes, and everyone came down on him with the wrath of god, guess what HE WAS RIGHT! Shanahan was the guy keeping the core together, not Kyle, i think hes been good in Pittsburgh, as a fan of the pens, hes doing what i would want him to be doing, hes been fine

Core 4, the most overrated over paid roster in the league, the way Toronto put's thier lazy asses on a pedestal and insist they're even better than the best 1-2 players in the league is beyond disgusting, so no i don't feel sorry to ya'll. It's time to wake up, ur captain is not a leader, his heart isn't in toronto. Ur other players feels that and i'd be frustrated too, if u find someone who will lead with all his heart for the team and not for personal stats, then they'd be unstoppable.
The question that I have is, why could I see that this core didn’t have what it takes to win a Stanley Cup. I knew it watching them lose the MTL series. I know nothing about hockey compared to the people running this team…. But I could see it and they couldn’t.

In today's NHL, to get over the hump you need to try big moves when you can't get over the hump. Shanny was never going to do that…..If you could somehow combine Burkes "truculence" and Dubas "skill" you might have something. Making Mathews Capt. seemed more of a move to make him happy rather than find a real leader. Not a dig on Mathews, but not the guy. The Leafs in recent memory have picked "safe" guys, not an on the edge character who can drag others into the fight.
when it was clear there were to be no significant changes to the leafs after the 2021 playoff loss (after being up 3 games to 1) to Montreal, they should have changed all management then. They didnt, and here we still are

About Sundin, huge fan he was my guy after doggie killer was out, I got his Jersey in my closet. I am still cheesed the way he didn’t allow for a trade and went to Vancouver anyway. Marner doing the same thing. I get it, they earned that clause in the contract, but then don’t say you love the fans, because ultimately that’s who’s in the middle and who gets hurt.

Shanny should have been fired after his Laffs lost in the playoffs against the Habs after leading the series 3 games to 1.
Shanahan isn't the biggest problem with the Leafs but he has the ultimate responsibility and it's easier to move on from him than some of the other problems.
10 years too late FINALLY
The Maple Leafs are losing in Game 7s because of psychological factors. I don't believe it is anything related to team dynamics or physical ability. It is something operating at a level that sports psychologists could identify. Because no one else seems to have a grasp on the problem.
