Let me know your expectations for the Preds this off season
Whenever someone suggests retooling, I'm always going to use the 2024-25 Predators as an example of how retooling can be a disaster.
The answer is pretty obvious: keep the top 5 pick and bring the team back to see if you can gel in year 2.
If the team does great, you can always trade that top prospect or keep him.
If the team is terrible again you trade the top guys with retention (Saros wouldn't need retention) and get a massive amount of 1st rounders.
Josi with 50% is worth 2 1sts
Forsberg with 50% is worth 2 1sts
Stamkos with 50% is worth a 1st
Saros is probably worth a 1st and 3rd
That would absolutely kickstart a rebuild
I agree with a somewhat with run back. I do think they could also retool on the fly. If they sign two decent top 4 dman this year and a middle six center, I could see them turning it around for a wildcard spot. I’d keep the top 5 pick and use your 2 other first to move up. I still think you commit to a retool though. Trade your ufas for futures. If Laughton got you a first sissons could easily get you a second with retention. If bunting bounces back get quality futures for him. They have young forwards who should be given a opportunity in Svechkov, L’Heureux, Kemell, Schaefer and Wood, in a bottom 6 role
barry as the gm is responsible for personnel, the roster and players. It is up to the coach on the system and x's and o's. Barry got the right players the coach massively under performed. If anything blame barry for andrew brunette but other than that barry has done a great job. I can tell you if barry was the coach nashville would be in the playoffs make no mistake about that.
It’s not clear just what the Preds will manage to accomplish this offseason. That said, I see next season as more likely for them to not feature a playoff appearance than to feature a playoff appearance although if they can prove me wrong, good for them.
