I liked the video below coaches conversations
*1. Martone vs. Hagens: The Case for Each*
– *Hagens* is the flashier, more dynamic prospect with elite skill and playmaking—*passes the eye test* as a future top-line forward.
– *Martone* brings **size (6’3")**, **elite production (1.7 PPG in OHL)**, and **leadership (captain)**—traits that translate well in playoff hockey.
– *Key Question:* Is the skill gap between them big enough to justify taking Hagens over Martone? If Martone’s upside is close (e.g., 70% vs. Hagens’ 80% top-six chance), his size and style might make him the better fit long-term.
#### *2. The 25th Pick Factor*
– Late 1st-round picks (20-32 range) have only a *~20-30% chance* of becoming a true top-six forward.
– If Martone is seen as a *70%+ top-six player* at #3, he’s a much safer bet than hoping a PF at #25 hits (unless that pick has a **35%+ chance**).
– *Risk:* If Chicago skips Martone, they might end up *needing size later but lacking a true top-six talent*—forcing them to play a "big but limited" forward in a scoring role.
#### *3. Final Verdict*
– **If Martone’s projection is close to Hagens’ (≤30% gap), take Martone at #3**—his size, production, and leadership fill a critical need.
– *If the gap is larger (Hagens is clearly superior), draft Hagens at #3 and target a high-upsize PF at #25* )
– *Worst-case scenario:* Overvaluing size and ending up with a top-six that’s either too small or *not skilled enough*. Balance is key.
*Bottom Line:* Chicago shouldn’t reach for need, but if Martone’s upside is close to Hagens’, his physicality and two-way impact could make him the smarter pick for a future contender.
They didn’t let Korchinski take his time. They foolishly rushed him into the NHL for no good reason. It hurt his development. That’s why both Rinzel and Levshunov have leapfrogged him on the depth chart.
Which one of these two wanted to offer sheet Gabe Vilardi and give up their 2026 first round pick as part of that signing. So ridiculous. One of them had that take a couple of weeks ago.
No on Marner. Too much money and term.
I really hope the Hawks get Isaac Howard. And for the #3 pick, I hope they get James Hagens. We can get more size with other picks and free agency.
