Treliving lost Tkachuk by his own stupidity, it wasn't ownership or management's fault. When Tkachuk's ELC was up, he was given a bridge deal by Treliving to keep Michael Frolik on the roster. By the time Gaudreau walks, the relationship with Tkachuk was irreparable

As a Colorado fan I sure wish Toronto would've made that Nies for Rantanen deal also. We'd both still be playing! We'd be in WCF cuz we should've beat Dallas WITH Mico(granted w/o Heskinen & Robertson)-& certainly would've without him.
Mico would've produced for you,& you'd be in ECFs & we'd be playing Edmonton in WCFs.And you can dream but Brock Nelson is walking from us & signing back home in Minnesota who has a super bright future with cap space,& top 3 prospect pool.

The time for change was after they blew the series to Montreal.. I've been checked out on the Core 4 since then. If they couldn't beat that Roster with the team that steamrolled that season.. I'd knew they couldn't get it done as a group.

Unless you knew and EXPECTED lose Marner for nothing, that would have been the only way to afford Rantanen. Then again, would Rantanen would resign with the Leafs in the first place?

I’m gonna say what is hardly said. Matthews is definitely not part of the solution. His indifference is alarming when they are losing. I just don’t think Matthews is wired for tough, gritty hockey, which is what wins this time of year.
Sorry boys. Horrible take. Knies is 22, provides something we do not have and is only getting better. Also it wasnt just Knies, it was Knies plus other assests, we just dont know what those assests were cuz it never got that far.

It is the media who make players hate Toronto. It's constant negativity, and most of you should be ashamed.
Trade the whole team , put the name on a banner , retire . Chasing something that's not gonna be there . Hockey is a business, that pay massive salaries… How else you gonna get people's money ?? .. leafs one of the biggest teams but one of the worst , figure that . I was raised as a leafs fan , I barely follow hockey now , and i don't even feel bad .
The Toronto Maple Leaf's are like Stan Mikita's Chicago Blackhawks, full of talent didn't play as a team and only won one Stanley cup. You build a team from the back end forward. Brenden Shanahan needs to go.
2019 lost to Montreal, then 2020 lost to a Zamboni driver. 5, FIVE! years ago was the time to make roster changes. Everyone got a raise instead.
Florida literally had this team years ago, then they threw Huberdeau(Leading the team in points at the time) into the sun because he did not have any dog in him. Shanahan was great at playing hockey, he is a moron at roster construction. Any team he goes to is absolutely doomed.

I really dont understand why they are scared for marner to be good in the playoffs has any of these guys played sports? if you have a guy that doesnt backcheck and doesnt go in the corners on your team if he switches teams hes not going to start doing that and everyone knows that so playoff teams wont sign him also hes on a line with a 50 Goal guy you know how hard defence are going to close out on him and hit him because theres no matthews to stay put

Because of how Toronto is built financially they need to have gotten high end draft picks to play with the core on ELC but because they are regular season beasts they pick very late in the draft. Now when mitch leaves they can MAYBE get a decent depth to this team.
I was extremely critical of their off season running it back again.
The guys they did add were better than I thought theyd be though.

Trading Knies over Matthews, Marner, Wily, Reilly, Kampf and Jarnkrok is insane. Leaf's have not made the necessary tough decisions sooner and they own that.
Knies is the type of player Leafs need more of.
