He looked him in the eyes and then cross checked him. I've played hockey for 40 years and even when the puck popped up at eye level, I never made an attempt to cross check a puck.
Not a fan of either team but absolutely agree. Reducing head contact from body checks without impacting the game is difficult. But these blows to the head on non-hockey plays are much simpler to remove. This isn't a hockey play gone bad. Suspensions should start at 5 games.
It kind of pisses me off that the crosscheck that finally gets called was a blatant accident and not on of the half dozen intentional crosschecks to the head/face this playoffs that HAVEN'T been called. I'm happy it was called of course, but some consistency would be nice.
Real question: Is there any defense of this action at all? It has nothing to do with hockey, and it's a violent attack with a stick on an opponent's face. It should be a full season ban and criminal charges for assault with a deadly weapon. Seriously, what is the defense of this action? "I was trying to cross check the puck in the air and caught him full in the face instead"? Or "It's the playoffs, I shouldn't be penalized too harshly for forcefully crosschecking someone directly in the face"? This should be a totally unacceptable action and players who engage in it should not be welcome in the league or in society at large honestly.

When i first saw the play i let out a solid OOH! Thats a major… Upon replay he did look like he was following through for the puck. 😂 This is a thought…. All playoff suspensions should be a minimum of 3 games.
I'm thinking he saw Frederic sort of go into the cross check movement accidently when he saw the puck fly into the air and instinctively he thought he was being targeted and was defending himself.
Go back and look at round 2 of the playoffs last year. McDavid vs Garland – 2 games Roy vs Frederic gets- 0 games I always call bs when people say Vegas is the golden child, but maybe they’re right?! This is insane!
This guy not getting any suspension for that clearly blatant intent to injure is ridiculous. Just more favouritism to Vegas. No wonder they lead the league in the season with the least penalties. The Refs are sucking Vegas's Toes.
interesting players have been cross checking each other to the face all playoffs but when a knight does it to an oiler every one gets all law and order. anyone notice the puck suspended midair between the two players as the cross check occurred? is it possible Roy was playing the puck? ofcourse not the Holy Oilers must get their call amd then ofcourse no call on a penalty that may have injured one of the knights most important blueline players. k ights deserve to be down 0-2 but Roy should not be suspended under any rule system as the puck was right there. sheesh

Based on penalty calls so far this playoffs, this is only a two minute minor. However I agree this is 5 plus games. Likely will be 2-3 games.
