“Out of Control” SC Playoffs WCF Game 1: Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars NHL P-B-P πŸ’πŸŽ™οΈπŸŽ¨ 5-21-25

Game Story: The million-dollar question is whether or not the Dallas Stars (hashtag#TexasHockey) secondary goal scoring has officially woken up, or if the OEG Inc.(hashtag#LetsGoOilers) just lost control of a five-minute stretch. Coverage with Alec Nava here.

Dallas Stars (50-26-6, 8-5) HC: Peter DeBoer Top Performers: Matt Duchene (30-51-81 +14); Jason Robertson (35-45-80 +10); Wyatt Johnston (33-38-71 +2); Roope Hintz (28-39-67 +18); Jamie Benn (16-33-49 +3); Mason Marchment (21-25-46 +15)

Key Defensive Pairs: Thomas Harley (16-34-50 +33); Esa Lindell (5-21-26 +35);

The injuries of Jason Robertson (Week-to-Week); Defense: Miro Heiskanen (Maybe Our R1); Nils Lundkvist (Season); Returns: Tyler Seguin (19 GP, 9-11-20 +14); Mikko Rantanen (w/ DAL, 19 GP, 5-13-18 +6) Is still third-leading scorer on COL (49 GP, 25-39-64 +12);

DAL Outlook: After getting past the Avalanche in seven games and the Jets in six. I think this team easily makes the Stanley Cup Finals. I see them as the best team left, that will get important pieces back as the postseason campaign continues. What’s left after Round 2 is the legitimate questions of secondary goal scoring. Where is Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Wyatt Johnston, Mason Marchment, Jason Robertson? Can they beat EDM in this rematch if all of them stay cold. EDM won last year in six. But DAL added Mikko Rantanen.

Edmonton Oilers (48-29-5, 8-3) HC: Kris Knoblauch Top Performers: Leon Draisaitl 71 GP (52-54-106 +32), Connor McDavid 67 GP (26-74-100 +20), Evan Bouchard (14-53-67 +14), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (20-29-49 +4), Zach Hyman (27-17-44 +9), Corey Perry (19-11-30 +12)

Top Defensive Pairings: Mattias Ekholm 65 GP (9-24-33 +11 OUT), Darnell Nurse (5-28-33 +11), Jake Walman (Team Lead +8 so far), Brett Kulak (7-18-25 –7)

Initial Thoughts: We’ve seen the story before as they dispatch LA yet again. I underestimated this team last year in getting to the Stanley Cup Finals, but they don’t have that same level of otherworldly penalty kill this time out. But even if they get past VGK… can the tandem of Skinner and Pickard really be good enough to win it all? Ekholm starts the series on IR. They have looked very good and McDavid and Draisaitl haven’t had to take over. They could do this.
