So dumb. The revolving door of friends getting hired of Lou continues. He hasn't done shit in Toronto they are losers. They were losers under Lou and Shannahan. Why would the islanders go with these LOSERS. Every time I see a new article about this team is just makes me want to give up being a fan until this team is sold.
Im sick of these people getting jobs just cause they are friends and had a long NHL career. These people dont give a fuck about the teams hiring them. Islanders need a GM with team pride and who is in this for the TEAM not the PAYCHECK.
Shannahan was a mediocre player on hall of fame Red Wings teams. Yzerman is the reason hes In the hall of fame. Facts.
I was afraid the Isles would have few choices for GM and president, and none would be list toppers. I'm not sure what a president of hockey operations does. If part of his job is to tell the GM what he can and can't do, it's a waste. Co-GM's with well defined responsibilities and limits could work, considering all that needs to be done. One guy One GM works on fixing the front office and Bridgeport while the other works with the HC and the scouts, with both reporting to the same entity. That could work with the right pair.
Either way, Collins needs to pull the trigger ASAP or we'll be left with first timers as the only options.
Anyone who is holding Shanahan to not getting the Leafs over the curse hump – I laugh. Who else would do a better job at Prez and who is available? I'm 50, born, raised, and still reside in Toronto – NOBODY has gotten the Leafs over the 58 and countin' losing heater. To go even further, there is a Canadian curse at 39 years and Cupless, how you pinning this on Shanny? No GM in Canada for almost 40 years has accomplished a cup. Now go look at every off season/trade deadline he was Prez, look at his moves – he always made his team better and made signifigant moves every year, no staleness like what has happened to the Islanders! Shanny can't make Tavs and Matthews have a heart – now go look at thier 7 years of playing together point totals in the play-offs, they failed large! Especially in game 7's, where were they last Sunday? Pointless and playing golf in their heads. Best thing to happen to the Island in a decade was to get rid of that muffin Tavares, he's soft as a Twinkie filling. I know Islander fans love him, but sorry he's a kitten playing in a Lions den. IF Shanny would have traded either of Tavs or Matthews, the city of Toronto would have gone nuts, burned it down. Hockey in this town is more important than Football in Dallas, trust it! It's not like trading Barzal and moving on, its insufferably crazy in Leaf land, that's why I choose to ignore them and cheer another team ..Its like holding GM's and Presidents accountable for the Red Sox or Cubs during thier losing heater – its hard to crack that curse. If Shanny had 2 teams, or 3 American teams he couldn't get over the hump, I'd see your point.

He's been with the Maple 🍁 for 11 years; however, they have 2 playoff rounds, and they haven't won a Stanley Cup since before the NHL doubled in teams. Another thing Shannahan has never played for the Islanders. Also, there's some bad vibes he worked with Lou Lamoriello when Lamoriello was in Toronto. I don't think that the Islanders should have co GM's an assistant GM that's one thing, but co GM's NO WAY because they'll be at each other's throats for the power. Scott Peruvinich. He didn't play all that much, had 3 assists, and was a -11. He does fit Patrick Roy's system. I can 👀 him staying if Patriclk Roy stays. HAPPY 🎂, JANI NENAMA. Gil, I agree that there are concerns with Shanahan. All the available candidates come with concerns because they have either failed elsewhere or have never done it before. I know a large portion of the fanbase is incessant on hiring Darche because “look how good Tampa was” while I understand that, we also have to remember that we aren’t inheriting the actual Tampa GM and their scouts. There’s a lot that goes into GM’ing and being a POHO. I’d prefer the stability up top and if Shanahan decides on a first timer, so be it. I’m fine with Shanahan.

Good morning team! Gil, regarding Shanahan, the Maple Leafs do have elite players and yes, they probably should have won a lot more than they have. Yes, blame has to go somewhere, but when does that blame fall on the players? Always seems the blame comes down to the GM or coach. Boggles my mind some times. I would be fine with him as POHO. BIG NO on co-GMs. That's just crazy, but if a team would ever consider it, it would be our Islanders! Just something else we can bad mouth all season long. Who's running this team?? I’m a little mixed on picking him up. The biggest issue is the Leafs have zero postseason success, however very consistent playoff team, and are usually a top team in the Atlantic. The Islanders have been missing a winning culture for a while. I don’t think it’s the worst mood they can make hiring him
I am comfortable with bringing in Shanahan & Darche. It may be our best option at this point. LGI
It's one thing to have a lot of goal scorers, but you also need guys who do the little things, the dirty things, things that don't show up in the box score

"The playoffs were a bust" argument rings hollow, given that 7 playoffs (or about 40 games) is not a meaningful sample to judge the Leafs. Fans, in general, really need to learn that a good sample size is MUCH, MUCH bigger than the TV is ever going to tell you. If they did tell you, you probably wouldn't watch sports as much. Yes, Barry saying 'the best team wins the cup every year' was wrong. Parcells saying "you are what your record says you are" was wrong. Luck /variance plays a very big role.
Look at Lou. He won some Cups with the Devils because he had some skill and mostly just got lucky 35 years ago. Ever since then, he hasn't kept up the pace or adapted to the modern NHL. Why? Probably because he never was good in the first place. Small sample size along with recency bias can really mess with your conclusions.
I’m not endorsing Shanahan. But he is a strong legitimate candidate. So is Bergevin. So is Darche. Also GM and President will probably be two different people.
Stay away. Shanny had unbelievable resources in Toronto and he could not find a playoff formula. The playoffs are what it is all about.
