Petrovic goal reviewed for kicking motion – Tough Call Review

Alexander Petrovic scored the game winning goal of Game 3 by using his skate. It was reviewed for a kicking motion but ruled to be a good goal.

  1. The NHL doesn't even know their own rules. They actually confirmed it was kicked in the announcement, but then claimed not only did it deflect off Hellebuyck, but he basically batted it in on purpose as a change of possession of the puck. Just outrageous, it's clear it got kicked, deflected off the goalie, and went in, the rules state this is NO GOAL.

  2. Does it matter by NHL rules if it wasn't kicked straight in? Like, is that mentioned somewhere and just none of the fans know about it?

  3. yeah it's a kick. But it doesn't "deflect" or "bounce" off Helly, he puts it in himself.

  4. If I could think of one defence, it would be that it wasn't directionally kicked towards the goal. But whatever reason they give, kicking motion is kicking motion in my eyes. Just too inconsistent to make any sense.

  5. What the hell are you on, it says when a deflection occurs, it should not count. Hellebuyck made whole ass play and scored on himself, this is not a deflection. I alson think the puck touched the winnipeg player, good goal for sure

  6. Hellebuick tried to prevent Steele from getting to the puck, but accidentally put it into his own net. Simple as that. Good goal, good night and game over for Thee Jets.

  7. How is no one seeing that Petrovic redirects the puck toward the net with his stick after the kick?

  8. This is a weird one. I think it should be a good goal, but according to the rules it should not. Get it right Toronto.

  9. He redirects the puck in front of the net…..not into the net. That is totally legal. Helle swats it in. May not like it, but that’s a good goal. If it had deflected in it’s a different story.

  10. Why do they keep calling it the game winning goal? The final was 5-2 lol this was just the go ahead goal. Either way the definition of a kicking motion is a whip like action and this was no kick. He guided the puck a certain direction and that wasn't even towards the net lol Jets fans are so dramatic 😂

  11. 0:30 the puck changes direction from his own blade after the kick, negating the kick. Even if you're not 100% convinced it hit his stick, it's easily too close to reverse. Good goal.

  12. I think they counted it because petrovic didnt actually touch the puck after it was kicked but hellebyuck did with his stick if you slow it down enough you will see it and because he was out of the crease when it happened it was a goal . Just really unfortunate for us jets fans because it turned the tide of the whole game.

  13. Rule 49.2, scenario (ii):

“A kicked puck that deflects off the stick of any player (excluding the goalkeeper’s stick) shall be ruled a good goal”

Therefore, as a neutral fan, I believe this is the incorrect call.

It does not matter that it was on route to miss the net, many other kicked pucks are originally on route to miss the net, but I’ve seen those be ruled No Goal.

Nothing else in Rule 49.2 suggests that this should be a goal, and in fact everything suggests it should not be a good goal.
