Look. As a UVA fan, I have heard this stuff for years and yes, I can see why they were thought of as boring. I get it but I do not understand why the Canes are called boring. I didn't care about the talk about UVA and in the end, they won a national championship. Ignore the national chatter. I live in Virginia But Raleigh is my home away from home. I think in the end, the Canes will be vindicated. It might not be this year but they will. GO CANES!
I'm embrace the boring stuff. It's not true but who cares. They can say boring they said same thing about San Antonio Spurs and they won like 5 ships. Hopefully Canes can do the same. I do get mad when they disrespect and act like Canes aint nothing to worry about but I'm confident this team will make them eat those comments.
this is what Marvin Hagler said THIS is WAR😊
Yeah the Spitten Chiclets and What Chaos guys have been getting on my nerves recently (don’t always watch their videos but I did see people that I follow quote tweet them)
You're giving voice to my thoughts Tim, grazie 🕶️👍
On a similar note as the general disrespect for our team, one of the reasons I was hoping for the Leafs instead is simply because I didn't want to deal with the annoyance of media figures rubbing the 2023 ECF in our faces at every opportunity….
It's just infuriating, and serves little journalistic purpose, considering how these are not the same teams from 23.
Commentators say you’re boring. They say your team has no superstars. Ranked 8th. You’re good obviously, you’re in the playoffs after all. But no real threat. Typical reaction when a hurricane is off shore. These storms barrel at us every year. Nothing to get overly excited about. They come through, do a little damage and blow back to wherever they came from. Under estimated. Underrated. Unnoticed. You become complacent to this force of nature. It catches you off guard. While you’re mocking it and waving it off it’s quietly gaining speed and strength. Next thing you know there’s a CAT 5 knocking your house down and destroying everything in its path. This is the year! The constantly under rated team to prove them all wrong. Hurricanes! RAISE UP!!! Make them hear you!!!
Canes 34 goals thru 2 series
Dallas 34 goals thru 2 series
Great video Tim. It is crazy that we have to eat this every playoff year. Rod is a badass and the Canes are a reflection of the Coach. Tell Rod his team sucks! I dare anyone
Last time I checked, no team listed as a Stanley Cup Champion has an asterisk near their name saying "yes they won, but they were boring." I watched alot of experts say the Canes are going to get steamrolled. Tauting Florida beating us 6-1 and 6-0 earlier in the year. Martin and Perets were in net. Some of those announcers were about to cry when we beat down the Devils and Caps. News flash. The Canes are playing the best hockey of any team right now. Home ice and a healthy team does not bode wtll for Florida.
I hate the Boring label. Haven’t heard anyone say any of the playoff games that was low scoring”Well that was a boring game” Only the Canes. Also they switch the narrative before the Caps series the Capitals were great high scoring team after the series clearly the Capitals were frauds and Carolina hasn’t played anyone good.
The Carolina Hurricanes didn’t get the nickname "Cardiac Canes" for being boring…
It's boring if you are a fan of the opposing team. "My team is doing nothing!" LGC.
No one cares what anyone says we are winners 3rd Conference championship series in 5 years go canes
Canes hockey is boring?
Let’s bore our way to a SC Final!
Just a case of “they hate us cuz they ain’t us”
I'm a cats fan and I hate the way the media is portraying your team. They did the same thing with our team until we recently won a cup, and still they just lie about how we play. I agree if both of these teams were in a cold weather climate these would be the top two teams every year according to the "experts". When the canes are not playing against the panthers I am always rooting for them to win. These are the two best teams they have better stats than the stars and oilers better fans, and whoever wins this wins it all😊
Ryan Whitney is just deflecting now that the team has been proving him wrong. He can fuck off, he never won a cup, he had three good seasons his whole career, and he never won a damn thing.
Why would (Could) anyone say anything bad about the Canes? Awesome system, team, fans and management. And I'm a Panthers fan. good luck in the series.
I want to explain something, over the years I've said that the Canes 'offense' is boring. The league started saying the Canes are boring. Am I wrong though? We had the worst powerplay, we used to be abysmal on 5 on 5, but our defense and pressure game were unrivaled. Boring in the same way that Maddux struck out multiple innings on a rampage and left little to no action to watch lol. I said that the Canes offense has been boring, for those with short memory, there have been scoring droughts each season. More importantly, it was the excessive shots from the point, with extremely low goal totals on those. Any fan who sees this has PTSD, you could probably score doing anything but that, which is what got this whole 'boring' narrative started. It's hard to be a long term fan when a team is like that though, its like that in a few places, but we're far happier for good reasons.
Who remembers the months before we traded Necas? Wow. It's so far behind us now that even the people that were probably saying we need to trade for star players have grown some prideful egos and reversed course. Great, but the conversation about how boring the Canes are or why big names don't want to play in Carolina are not empty claims, even now because our successes will depend on how long we keep our coach and how long the roster remains effective. Simply put, it is about the players compatibility and market value plummeting. If a player with high level of skill comes here and can't generate because we don't have an engine that runs on the same fumes and doesn't have the parts to make it a well oiled machine, then no matter how good that player might be, they will look useless. Rantanen!!!
And the league understands this, so what they do is they look at the success of a team's top performers for the long term opinion about that team. Even now, after all of the crappy seasons the Pittsburgh Penguins for instance have had, they always had something to cheer about, and that being their top performers. When the Canes were on their lowest point, even though we were absolute shitaki, Eric Staal carried us and I had no choice but to put the weight on his shoulders like most fans, but it was 10x worse than the situation Pittsburgh had when they were at the lowest point. So, realistically, IF the Canes lost RBA, Staal and some of our Core defense to age retirement, do you think Aho and Svech are even remotely capable of doing what Eric Staal was doing? That is why some very 'unpopular' fans talk about this, because we know that time is just a few years out. And you can either join the party people now and get roasted later, or try and share some wisdom about keeping long term success. Because a small market expansion team can easily die out as soon as it loses steam.
And let's say Guentzel really did want to play here? Why didn't you dangle some trade bait their way to get him over here? If Guentzel really wanted to sign here? I'd love to test the veracity of the claims, because it seemed like to me that Guentzel or anyone with goal scoring promise would feel 'safer' beside other scoring oriented players. Coming here, trying to play a more defensive game? It's not helpful to either party. So this was the reason behind the league changing course, they saw that we were more interested in remaining a small market. Market has more to do with the value of the top performers, not to sound condescending (I love our top guys, it doesn't matter to me that much). That is just how the NHL does it. They might look at your team as a dynasty for a couple years, but once you're stone cold they'll shit all over you. That will be the Penguins in a few years probably.
The real origin of the talk about Carolina being a boring team comes from the question on where will the team be after RBA is gone. After J. Staal is retired? At the time when I was saying we needed to shift course with a new coach or a system change, we were dabbling with top end talent, we were bringing on players that could grow the Franchise and market. And on the other hand, how often do you find a player like Svechnikov in a draft? Or find a defensive coach like RBA? It's second to none, so over investing in a long term 'elite' defense could backfire in 5-10 years, likewise investing in a more physical system might turn into a dud too. I just want to explain my position, it's not about the roster now, as the roster has been adjusted. It's more about the general course of upcoming talent in the prospect development programs, or the kinds of tools we might have available, or the kinds of coaches that will be around in a few years. We 'could' have changed to a more balanced system, but we chose a retool and I think keeping Rod is our best short term investment, we are flat out locked in with Rod because of this. Not a bad thing, but I hope he sticks around or else it will be an utter disaster and we would have to go full rebuild probably unless your Core can 'relearn' professional hockey.
So we trade the potential for a more offense oriented system with the prospect of having some league goal scorers (this would have brought potential market growth and higher respect), and we invest more into the system and brand of hockey instead, it WILL work out as long as we do well finding players that fit in. We let go of the ballerinas and goal scorers. Okay, this is fine… but now we need to score big in the off season and go get a Cup. Do not get a low energy player in the off season, in fact I wish we could go after Pasternak or someone that used to play in more physical systems. DON'T GO AFTER players like Marner that don't have that kind of game, it's not going to be much more than having Necas again. I am so surprised the front office even looks at Marner, with moves like that I am not so confident in the front office. I'll be right back to saying they should invest in a more offensive coach if they start going for players like that.
The Canes do not play boring hockey. The Canes make the OTHER TEAM play boring hockey.
