What will the next contracts for Soderblom, Johansson and Berggren look like?

Soderblom, Johansson and Berggren are RFAs this offseason. While they certaintly aren’t Seider or Raymond caliber free agents, they still will likely command more money. How much, and for how long? #LGRW

  1. I would lock up Soderblom to a long term deal if possible probably between 3.5-4 million per. Other players I would do 1-2 year deals for as low as possible. Albert is a six or seventh man and Burger is a fourth line player and one I would trade for someone that plays that role of being physical and enforcer like Rempe.

  2. Did you guys collect yourselves?? Lol😂. First off, great show as always and I just want to put my "2 cents in". I want to say I honestly feel that Al-Jo and Elmer show both get longer deals at least bridge deals of around 3 or 4 years to either go to ufa status or after. These are my reasons….

    1. ) I think this is a beneficial move for the Wings overall because, well let's face it even though we all hate to say it, but Stevie has made some all most "Holland bad" deals and trades so this would not be that bad of a move as past transactions. Also 2.) you can lock them up for a few years at a cheaper price so why not? They both did allot of good, and we need some depth forwards that ACTUALLY produce and also a few SOLID (not offense only) defenseman. 3.) Elmer had done more in less time then Burger so I fell he's earned it. And also Al-Jo at worst would be a solid 3rd pair D-man so that is still an approvement on the current situation.
And 4.) how can anyone not justify a 3rd pair minimum defenseman and 4th line minimum forward for around 900k to 1.5 million a year for around 3 years per??? To me that sounds like a solid idea. Anyway I'm sure I missed something along the way with my points cuz I kind of got distracted lol. But anyway love you guys Love the show, and stay frosty

  3. Johansson probably gets 2 by 2. Since he can play right side that probably helps his value. Soderblom is tough. I bet he gets 2 yrs 3 mil. Berg is probably getting 2 yrs. Keep in mind if he gets that extra year come this trade deadline he could be moved for more value if he plays well that half of season then Detroit won’t have to pay him more the following season if he isn’t movee

  4. All of Stevie's draft picks will get 3 years, if he can help it. Some will get 2.

Elmer on a one year would be a dumb idea for Stevie. No matter what, Elmer will be at least a 3mil 3rd liner. So clearly 3 years at 1mil would be a win.

  5. I'd give Soderblom and AlJo two year prove it deals between 1 and 2 million per year. Berger, I honestly think I'd look to trade him. If not, I'd seriously consider not qualifying him and letting him go to unrestricted free agency.

  6. Brian dropping LP smack on Scottie Pistachio was pretty epic, thanks for keeping the off-season content entertaining

  7. I can't see these deals being for more than 2 years. Players who are starting to take on bigger roles with their teams have a chance to earn more money if they earn more opportunities. I think the deals are going to be between 1.2 and 1.7 mil for 2 years.

  8. When is Yzerman & the entire scouting staff & the good old boys {Draper, Maltby, Cleary} going to be FIRED? Chris Illitch needs to get out go the 1990's and get into how the NHL does business in 2025🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂

  9. Berggren can go, he's a role player. Soderblom is a role-player but with trading Veleno we have a spot for a role-player so if they throw a couple mill per year for 4 years, I'd be cool with that. Johansson is a 3rd paring defensemen, you never know if a player will have a sophomore slump. I'd give him a 1 – 2 year deal.

  10. MN wild fan here. I’ve been hearing from a number of podcasts that they’d be interested in some trades with the wings this summer. I’m curious if you’ve heard anything on your side or if that’s just the MN media day-dreaming

  11. Berggren hasn’t produced wearing the winged wheel since he changed from 52 to 48 on the back of his jersey…. Just saying.

  12. These 2 podcasters dwell too much on those players making far less than those who have the big multi-million dollar salaries, and who didn't step up when they should have to make the playoffs this year. Since these podcasters won't call out those big shot millionaires making $8-9 mil a year, I'll gladly opine in that regard. Seider will be scrutinized for his play on the ice, especially as he continues to be on the Wings roster for the next several years. Seider is not off the hook, and neither are Larkin and Raymond, all three of whom either diminished in production or blew assignments during pivotal games by season's end. Just with those 3 alone, you're talking about $24+ million a year $8+ mil, $8+ mil, and $8+ mil) for 3 players who should be key to the Wings getting into the playoffs but choked and played unexpectedly at a level not coming close to matching the salaries in their respective contracts. These podcasters should be calling out these hot shot mega millionaires for not making a difference this year, but they won't because those 3 are fan favorites. And I can't understand how that could be. If the Wings continue with at least those 3 on the roster in the years to come without making the playoffs, I hope to not hear any more about the Bergrens or the Gustaffsons of the NHL world before hearing about those mega millionaires. It's understandable that you need a decent supporting cast on the roster and on the ice, but if you take examples of franchise players from the past, like a Crosby, or Lemieux, or a Bobby Orr, those players took it upon themselves, taking their play to another level, something we didn't see from the 3 Wings currently making $8 + a year each. Grasp that thought for a moment, that if neither of the 3 step up and do what it takes to catapult this Wings team into the playoffs, do you still blame the Bergrens of the world. Wake up Fisher and Bentley. You're both in denial.

  13. Can we discuss an obvious issue for Red Wings and Yzerman? The Walman trade before season still puzzles. yzerman’s most recent comments add to that puzzle. “I’m not going to address the issue, that’s all..” isn’t going to satisfy Red Wings need a change crowd. Yzerman has also decided to remain very conservative with additions and trades. Top shelf high value players have been available for last couple years. Players are assets for management and not using all avenues to increase asset pool is a failure. Look at what St. Louis did with one offseason using offer deals. Another example, why wasn’t anything ever completed for guys like Cychrin? He was available for little more than third round pick and two years at $6 mil. per.. Do these points mean anything when considering big picture? Let me ask you all, would having Walman, Chycrin, and Jared McCann on last season changed Detroit’s playoff chances? Red Wings glaring weaknesses is on blue line. My suggestion would have Seider, Chycrin, Walman, in top 3 of four top D positions. McCann was available but cost was higher. More than 1st round pick required. Maybe detroits 1st round 2025, Bergrren and another low level player. McCann would be under contract for three years at $5 mil. Per.. McCann adds grit and massive scoring touch, especially at that salary level. Would’ve these available choices changed DETROIT’S CURRENT AND FUTURE RESULTS? Now, let’s take this example one step further, Detroit could then buy out several players saving more than $10 mil per season against cap. Now Detroit uses that cap availability and a couple million more to sign Marner. Yes, Marner and Leafs look disturbed but Marner is still very special talent. The addition of Marner to roster along with other players would mean what to Detroit? Those simple, easy and very available deals makes Detroit playoff likely and even contender overnight.
But let’s go back to my original Yzerman concern. The Walman issue isn’t going away until addressed. The Walman issue could bring down Yzerman quicker than any other decisions. Imagine this, Edmonton is on verge of moving into next round. It’s very possible Edmonton plays in Stanley Cup finals. Walkman’s play ALL YEAR, HAS BEEN VERY GOOD. Edmonton in finals with Walman kicking butt would be huge black eye. Imagine the constant Walman this, Walman that discussion during finals. All of those conversations terminate with same question Yzerman keeps getting asked but doesn’t address. “Why did you not only trade away Walman but also add second round pick to do it. You signed him at very reasonable $5 mil per contract. He outplayed that contract in final year in Detroit. So why urgency to shitcan the guy? If you’re one of those conspiracy, read between the lines guys, Yzerman’s responses indicate locker room cancer. wife beater. GOAT sex perv., slept with Yzerman’s wife, etc. what the hell did Walman do to be shipped out along with draft pick? He’s already proven Detroit likely missed the playoffs this year by removing Walman from roster. But in support of Yzerman, why did San Jose trade Walman after such an incredible season? Draft capital? Seriously? San Jose is going to sign three defenseman at higher rates and much lower skill level this offseason. What am I missing? This crowd better hope Edmonton doesn’t make it to next round. This issue is going to explode at some point.

  14. Okay, discussion time. This is the question i want to ask; How do most people label Söderblom simply as a "role player" already? The guy havnt even played a full NHL season yet and you have to take into consideration that bigger guys take longer time to put it together… And Söderblom is HUGE & still just 23yo.

The biggest (no pun intented) comparable is Tage Thompson, who his first three seasons in the NHL only put up 3, 7 and 8 goals, before suddenly exploding with 30+ goal campaign. A more recent example of this is Alexei Protas (listed exactly the same size as Thompson, Söderblom is even BIGGER!) with only putting up 3, 4 and 6 goals his first three seasons when suddenly this year put it together with a 30 goal campaign…

Söderblom obviously have the skills to be more then just a role player, if and when he puts it together, he could very well wound up with simular contributions as guys named above. For that reason I would try get as many years as possible locked up already, the upside of a reward here is sky high and if he doesn't hit it and become a 30 goal 60-70p player like i think he could (think Johan Franzen late bloomer) very realistically hit, then atleast you have something on your forward group that you sorely lacks (outside of Rasmussen, who despite my argument with bigger guys take longer time, IS what he is at this point), which is SIZE! So even if you give him a mix between what Rasmussen and Compher makes, he would still bring value even if he lands on being a 12-15 goal 30-40 point player.

So to summerize here, go as many years as you can get with Söderblom, 5 years atleast would be prefereble for me. Aljo should get a bit lower term, a 1-2 year bridge while Berggren is likely a sign and trade chip candidate at this point. #LGRW
