  1. Who gives a fuck what anyone believes the fan base wants. Just win the fucking cup.

Context: 3:58 Shannon saying the fan base wouldn't want a 4 year rebuild.

Ownership side quests aside, who gives a flying fuck what anyone perceives the fan base wants or has patience for. Win the cup. Have a long term plan. Don't stray from it just to go for it for 1 year. Stop bleeding assets. STFU and get it done. Absolute fuckin failure of a franchise.

  2. Dumpster fire throw some more gas on the franchise there still going to suck no goid players want any part of playing in Van

  3. Should have been Manny but at least we can fire Foote in two years (with 1 year remaining) when Malhotra's contract is up with Abby at the end of 26/27

  4. It’s not a recycle coach a coach who has NHL level experience and my guess is that Manny said he was gonna move on to be closer with his son

  5. There are 32 head coaching jobs so to have NHL head coaching experience you had to have been fired by another team. I disagree with this thinking. If you never get a head coaching job you never have head coaching experience. Coaching is not rocket science and there are most likely many more candidates than Adam Foote capable of moving into these positions.

  6. Tocchet 2.0! I was HAPPY to hear that Tocchet was never interviewed for the Seattle job! That was unsettling news when I heard it…especially shortly after Tocchet made his choice to leave the Canucks because he wanted to be back east.

  7. The fans scream for the team to give someone new a chance instead of the same old guys getting cycled around the league, then they complain when they do that… lol. I dont know what the big deal is of "risking losing Manny to another organization" when they were going to be doing that back when they offered Tocchet a 5 year extension…people didn't care then! Foote can be even better than Tocchet for all we know, Hughes said Foote was the best coach hes ever had.

  8. Oh boy, previous head coaching experience: Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, compiling a record of 48-49-12. He had his chance to make his mark the past two years in Vancouver. This team was horrible without the puck 5 on 5 this year – the number one reason they missed the playoffs! I wish him well!

  9. hes the right choice plus he knows the current system so the team doesnt need to start from scratch. he can also bring in some other coaches to help. I see a better powerplay coach then tocchet.

  10. He knows Tocchet system and bring Manny up as his second. Now trade Petey and then this team may've a tiny chance next year but with Petey we have zero chance.

  11. John is wrong on a Vancouver rebuild cause we have always tried to patch this team but never tried to built a team here.

  12. Zero Pro Head Coaching experience for Foote could be his undoing in the NHL. I think the Offense needs significant improving next season, and wonder how Foote can accomplish that. Perhaps they've already gotten an Offensive minded Assistant in mind to help him out.

  13. 4 years of a rebuild again? We've NEVER had any years of a rebuild. Lol. Rebuilding teams don't trade their picks, they use them. We sucked for many years, but that was accidentally and on top of that we made it a habit of trading 1st and 2nd rounders. I'd gladly take 4 years of a true rebuild over continued mediocrity. The real reason the fanbase won't accept a rebuild is cause we don't want to lose Hughes. We should have been using the last 3 years to build up our prospect pool, but we didn't. So now we gotta hope Lekkerimaki, Raty, and Willander hit or exceed their expectations. And the stick figure that is Petey can re-find his game offensively.

  14. Yikes. Definitely not a great move hiring the guy with the least amount of head coaching experience. Hughes loves the guy so that’s something. Hopefully he’ll surprise us all but I have my doubts.

  15. Obviously I'll give him a chance, but was hoping for a more offensive minded coach. That being said, we can hire an offensive minded assistant. Also if this was for Quinn, then I'm all for it.

  16. Experience is a chicken and egg … how can you get an experienced one if they were fired or let go before? so why hire this ""experienced" one… think outside the box and try something new

  17. Love John Shannon. He's wrong about Keefe though; Leafs made a mistake hiring him. And if you want to argue I'm wrong there, at the very least they held on to him for too long. He proved he wasn't a playoff caliber coach.

I think given ownershp's expectations, Foote will not be a good hire… this team needs an experienced coach. Malhotra should likely try to be an NHL head coach elsewhere for a period of time too, if he's seriously interested in being the head guy in Vancouver.

  18. John's wrong. The fanbase is all for a rebuild because trying to sneak into the playoffs every year has led to 15 years of losing. It's Aqualoonie that is chasing the playoff home date dollars.

  19. I like him
I would have picked Adam Foote as well
    Good move for now..
But I wouldn't sign any coach for more than 2 Years
And we all know that Tocchet needed to be with Philly
    His hearts with Philly

  20. The team will have a new coach in 2 years lol. Seriously, no stability at all with this team. This isn't a shot at Adam but more about the decision making process of upper management.

  21. It’s a stop gap because management and ownership has no idea what to do here.Manny should be the coach but they didn’t want to piss off Foote. The Stanley cup dream will never materialize in Vancouver.

  22. Yeah, let Manny hone his skills in Abbotsford so when the time comes another team can get him as their head coach.

  23. How the @#$% does Shannon know if Tochet was considered for Seatlle head coach or not?
    What an @ss clown.

  24. I love Donnie trying to stick up for Malhotra….obviously his favourite choice. Marty St. Louis got the Montreal job with no experience because he speaks french. Foote knows the current system, in lock-step with Tocchet. Great analysis from John Shannon!!

  25. Mr. Shannon is a baby boomer he has no clue what its like to crack into a market now. I bet her grand kids can't get a job at fast food or a gas station because there are no opportunities for Canadians. He has had an easy baby boomer life with things given to him. Footie needs the opportunity to get that experience. The Canucks have given him the chance that his grand kids won't get in our current Canada. Good for Footie wish him the best with his Gen Z crew. Shannon won't be around at the end of Quinn Hughes Career or see him enter the hockey hall of fame. Please bring younger people on your show they are our future just like Quinn Hughes.🤡
