  1. I agreed if the new GM changes special teams coaching they could make the playoffs but won’t go deep. I understand the argument about a good two way defenseman but they were defense heavy last season in terms of personnel. If they take Schafer maybe trade Pullock/Pelech or Dobson for someone to help in the offensive zone with scoring and on special teams. I’m very excited to see who the new GM is and what approach will be taken. I think Roy should stick around at least another year and though I haven’t heard any chatter I’d be happy with promoting him GM, bringing in someone to be President of Operations and allowing Roy to bring his people in to transform the team.

  2. Most people don't realize this, but the advanced metrics justify it: Pulock has absolutely fallen off a cliff; you can easily argue he shouldn't be in the NHL anymore. He played with Pelech for most of the season, and Pelech's advanced stats this season were unbelievably good. Pelech was good enough this season that many do not realize how bad Pulock has become.

The Islanders could run a Pelech-Dobson top pair–which should be one of the best d-pairings in the league. The problem then becomes the rest of the d-corp is terrible.

  3. I’ve floated this idea around for a trade and I feel like it satisfies most.

Blackhawks receive 1st overall and pick Misa

Islanders receive 3rd overall pick Hagens + Kevin Korchinski.(2022 7th OA)

Hawks get Bedard his running mate for the next decade. Hawks are extremely deep on D prospect’s and with the emergence of Rinzel, makes parting ways with Korchinski doable. They’re also loaded on LHD which helps.

Isles get their hometown boy, elite talent, chemistry with Eiserman + another young piece for their blue line leaving flexibility to do what they want with Dobson. Korchinski looks like a younger faster Nick Leddy whom NYI know very well. Offense and defense retooled in one move.

Added bonus. Sharks pick Schaefer at 2nd overall. Everyone gets what they need

  4. They weren't as bad as their record shows… the man games lost due to injury was brutal. Worse than last year in fact. Staying healthy is key to doing well overall.

  5. As an isles fan I was heavily wishing they’d trade up for Hagens should they have stayed at pick 10. At pick 1 things change. I want Hagens for the story, for the friendship with Eiserman, etc. BUT as much as it hurts to say, you need to take the consensus #1.

  6. I'd lean more to Misa, if he's really as good as they say. If they take Schaefer, it will require patience. Figure on at least 3-4 years before it pays off because that's how long it takes with a defenseman unless it's Cale Makar. There's gonna be a lot of pain + suiffering. A lot of the talk about Schaefer reminds me of Erik Johnson. Schaefer is supposed to be the new Doughty. Johnson was supposed to be the new Bourque. He ended up having a nice (and long career) but he never became Ray Bourque. Like with goalies, it's harder to tell what you have with a defenseman at age 18.

  7. Hagens will be another Hughes. Too small and fragile for long playoff runs. Misa all day. Draft a dman or 2 in the 2026 first round.

  8. I want to see some long hair and beards. This nonsense Lou had of clean cut was so outdated. This is a hockey team not the military🤦‍♀️

  9. Special teams was god awful for us but that scoring by period segment gave me a good laugh lol – I think a major retool (not rebuild per se) is definitely necessary to get back into the playoffs but we have to wait until the new GM is hired to see what that looks like. But keep it up, I like these breakdowns

  10. Piles get 1st overal for one of the weakest drafts in recent memory. It won't help them at all. They will continuously be mid for years to come

  11. You missed Mayfield's dreadful contract and Pelech and Pulock's contracts are also albatrosses at this point. They both have fallen off significantly. I would not say Tsiplakov had a good rookie season. Extremely up and down but I do like his promise. You also missed the disaster known as Duclair. Not sure how that gets resolved, especially if Roy stays. Also, JG's 5mm for another year is a problem. Hopefully, we do some cap gymnastics with the dead weight and draft Schaefer. Get Lou completely out of the building and bring in an experienced president of hockey ops and a promising younger GM like Darche.

  12. What do you think of trading the first pick away for a player / draft haul? The years draft is supposed to be deep and with no consensus #1 stud to take at 1, would this be the way to go to rebuild this team?

  13. Islanders should wiggle the number 1 pick in front of the Hawks for their 3rd and Rinzel. Rinzel is the real deal, and then they can grab Hagens with the third

  14. I wouldn’t take Schaefer. It’s too risky a pick. He only played 17 games this year and wasn’t particularly impressive the year before. Hagens was the consensus #1 coming into the year and fell down people’s boards through no fault of his own. Misa has also been great. I’d take one of those 2. Or if they’re serious about wanting to move on from Dobson, see if you can get the #2 or 3 pick for him and take Schaefer as well

  15. Schaefer is my 1st overall pick. Next year and the one following is supposed to be generational. We have 2 1st round picks next summer. My hot take would be to trade Barzal, Horvat and Sorokin for as many high end 1st round picks as possible. Take these next few seasons to set this franchise up for the next 10 + seasons.

  16. Even if they don’t get anyone in free agency so they can “tank”. They’re still too good a team to be in real contention for the first overall pick next year. They legitimately won the lottery this year on pure luck.
