Nobody expects Winnipeg to do anything meaningful. They are the poster child for “Regular season champions”.
Jets are more like Canes of the West. A bit downgraded Canes.
If either of these series goes to game 6 I'd be surprised. (I have been very wrong this playoff year so far).
I'm wondering if the diluting of the competitive mindset of players has affected Toronto, in terms of where now every single minor hockey league has the "participation trophies/medals/awards" for every single young player to make them FEEL like winners mentality from midget hockey all the way up through peewee and into the Juniors. Because it seems like all of these players are afraid to be hit, afraid TO hit, afraid to shoot, and afraid to make a mistake. It really does remind me of "Oh, well, it's okay to lose because we're all winners at heart" kind of mentality. Penny (nor nickel if in Canada) for your all's thoughts??
Hurricanes and Panthers were in the conference finals in 2023.
The thing about parity and salary caps is that they also freeze the situation. Wild changes in the standings and in the overall force balance aren't happening.
Bad teams can get good, but it takes a lot of time and building (Devils and Sens as sorta successful examples).
Good teams will get worse, but they won't necessarily fall apart completely (though it can happen as well, Sharks or Pens or Bruins this year as an example).
The worst place to be is this range of 12 to 20, when you are almost good enough to make Playoffs, aren't good enough to do something meaningful and aren't bad enough to draft the next generational talent.
And the Bruins chug on with Sweeneely and Sacco (puts bag back on head)
Auston Matthews is the most overrated player in the NHL today.
Canes and Stars with kill shots tonight!!
Tocchet $5+ million for just coaching the Coyotes one time to the WCF? Tocchet coached teams don't make the playoffs every year.
My pick is Dallas versus Carolina in the final
Carolina vs Florida sounds boring as hell, but Edmonton vs Dallas sounds like a good time.
Canucks need to start signing and drafting guys with grit, North American players, soft hands arn't helping us with the parade route any time soon
Teams that take a 3-1 series lead win the series 91% of the time. This season there have been 7 such series. Meaning statistically it would not be that weird if a team pulled it off. Who does it maybe the caps?
Thursday playoff picks Washington and Dallas
Vancouver Swedish
washington and winnpeq
Not the same 4 as last year.
That's not gonna happen because the Rangers were in the conference final last season
Big moves and tough losses shaping critical playoff moments.
Can you imagine that one in the NHL, the highest seed, gets to pick their opponent? Yeah, that would go over like the old 'Lead Balloon' in the NHL!
i would say that the jets are more like the old leafs than the new (post-auston matthews) leafs. they don't have 4 guys taking up most of their cap, they generally work hard, and they aren't just essentially regular season stat merchants who can't turn it on in the playoffs. the only exception to that would be hellebyuck on the road, but there's sometimes where the defense in front of him definitely isn't doing him any favors (granlund's hat trick goal, for one).
the leafs just seem to give up across nearly the entire team when things stop going right. their goaltenders then have to stand on their heads just to keep them in the game and either get injured or shelled into oblivion because the rest of the team just forgets how to or stops playing defense because, in their heads, they're already loading up their golf clubs and heading for the course. say all you want about marner not showing up (he definitely hasn't this series), but matthews has literally been a missing person the entire playoffs while winnipeg at least, has their big players (besides aforementioned) actually putting in effort to win the game.
yeah theres still parity, the regular season is very unpredictable
The Leafs are a better team than they've been in the last 10 years, and its going wrong again. There's issues like the PP dying again, Domi killing them with penalties and McMann being stone cold, but it still comes down to the stars gotta show up and lead their teams to wins. Matthews and Marner are yet again proving incapable of doing that. Willy and Knies are doing their part, Tavares and Patches have been decent and the D and goalies have been better than ever. But this team is going nowhere when its top 2 guys go invisible every year. If only Marner didn't nix that potential trade for Raantanen..
Oops, meant to sign Nee-Lander.
Toronto's biggest mistake this year was giving Matthews the C – he's an incredible talent but he's a wimp and is not even close to what a captain should be
looks like we might get 3/4 final four times from 2024 and 2023 (FLA/EDM/DAL & FLA/DAL/CAR) if FLA & DAL win
O great. Vancouver needs more Swedes, Of course.
Great signing. Hope Willander can add some more skill and depth to the Canucks' defensive core. Now if only we could find a 2nd line center and a Top 6 winger that doesn't want 9×7 to sign…….
Go Frost!!!
Tocchet wanted a practice facility.
Again … your Dallas bias showed. GO JETS
