The Winnipeg Jets had a shockingly great year. The best team all season, the Presidents Trophy winners, they had a remarkable comeback in game 7 against the Blues in round one these playoffs but, they officially saw their season come to an end last night against the Dallas Stars. While sad for Jets fans, it paled in comparison to the heartbreak hockey fans felt for Mark Scheifele beyond the game. Prior to puck drop, news broke of the passing of Marks father Brad putting into perspective how fragile life can be. Despite the news, Mark took the ice in honour of his father and gave the Jets a phenomenal performance even opening the scoring in the 2nd period. It was a special goal and special moment that he’ll never forget. Despite it, the Stars were great as well and tied the game shortly after. A great game for both goalies in Oettinger and Hellebuyck meant this game needed Overtime. With 15 seconds remaining in regulation though, Scheifele was called for tripping on Steel which gave the Stars a massive powerplay to begin OT. Harley scored the game winning and series winning goal with 15 seconds remaining on the powerplay as the Winnipeg Jets were officially eliminated. It was a heartbreaking scene as Scheifele was comforted by Lowry, his team and the Stars team as well in a beautiful handshake line moment. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

The Jets simply couldn't win on the road in this years playoffs, that is why they are now out of the post season. For whatever reason they couldn't generate offence on the road to save their season despite the heroics of Scheifle trying his darndest to will the Jets. So it was kind of cruel to see him in the penalty box to watch that game winner go in.
I feel awful for the guy. Loses his dad, scores that goal, then is forced to take a necessary penalty just to have it end like that. Happy to see Benn take the extra time to talk to him, hopefully they squashed that beef.

As a Jets Fan who also lost his father young, I feel his pain. We may have lost, but I cant even be mad. Much respect to the Dallas Stars and their Fan base. Class acts! Best Part of last nights game was the Handshake line.

It’s not fair it’s disrespectful for Dallas to win after what happened to mark’s father. They needed to win for his dad it’s only fair. He can’t lose the series and his dad he deserved a better fate.

Glorifying Scheifele's decision is a dangerous idea. The next guy to face a similar situation may not want to play. It's a personal decision.
I don't question Mark's decision one bit. It was exclusively his. However, we ought to treat it as just that, a personal decision, not paint it in either a positive nor negative light.
If someone wants to sit out in a situation like this, he shouldn't feel pressured to "live up" to what someone else chose to do.

You can only imagine the conversations that Scheifele and his dad shared about hockey. The practices his dad must have driven him to for years. Watching his son get better and better, and knowing what the end goal was about. No doubt in my mind that his dad would have wanted him to give it his all. Thank you for raising an incredible son, sir. Mark is a hero to us all. 🙏

Mark Scheiflele's always been a dirty hockey player! Life happens to everyone! Big Deal! He shoulda been kicked out of the NHL years ago after that blindsided hit he made on a player after the Jets already lost the game! Glad he and the Jets lost! He's a jerk!
