Benn and Scheifele – Tough Call Recommendation

Jamie Benn and Mark Scheifele were involved in an altercation where both players let things get too far.

  1. Either the linesmen break it up and the refs call penalties on everyone in an escalating matter, or they let the players fight. In this case, the refs and the linesmen made the situation worse. I'd be pretty pissed at the linesman as well if I just got floored while being restrained. The linesmen need to ask the players … are you gonna go or not. If the answer is no, then break it up … if the answer is yes, the go and be done with it. In this case I think the linesmen need to be able to dole out unsportmanship and roughing penalties. The fact that Benn only got 2 for roughing (ignore the game misconduct) is kind of absurd.

  2. The linesMAN should be suspended
Why would he hold the player who’s being hit. These lineman and refs need to be held accountable and fined for there terrible calls and actions.

  4. Once the linesman has hold of a player, it’s cowardly to punch them. That’s a huge problem here and should have been punished. Benn should get a game, but five is a bit much. Scheifle should also get a game for wrestling with the official.

  5. The NHL is a bad joke. The League is ridiculous in how gutless the accountability for terrible officiating is. And this is all a product of King Gary wanting to decide what teams succeed and who fails. The truth is the fans are the real losers. The real product of the NHL nowadays is constant frustration for hockey fans.

  6. I remember a time when gloves came off before punches were thrown. What happened to those days. Punching with gloves on seems wrong. Perhaps it’s an unintended effect of the instigator rule. It seems the refs don’t give fighting penalties unless the gloves come off.

  7. I don’t know, maybe the ref should hold the attacking player instead, it’s totally understandable to be upset after the ref let you get punched in the face twice while holding your arms down, it’s the ref’s job to keep tensions down if they can’t manage that it’s on them

  8. Isn't that a problem though? Sheifele would get a harsher punishment than Ben, who started this whole thing

  9. Benn is trash. Always has been. About kills Larkin no suspension. Same with the knights captain a couple playoffs ago. 1 game. Tell me the players ass. Doesn’t play favorites

  10. Dallas ended up with a power play after this? These anti-Canadian team conspiracy theorists might be onto something.

  11. I appreciate your take, but 10 games is far to much. It’s a 3 because the contact was solely for the purpose of getting free of such official.

And a dude literally slashed a ref in the past week and didn’t even end up with a penalty let alone a suspension.

If it’s 10, the NHL just looks even worse about how the randomly chose to enforce penalties and suspension.

And genuinely thank you for making content! I do appreciate being able to watch this type of video.

  12. he was out of control because he was being attacked and all he was doing was trying to get away. The linesman was pulling him making it hard to protect himself and Benn punched him while he was vulnerable. He had every right to be angry. Benn should be suspended and the Jets should have had a power play….the worst call in this series so far.

  13. Benn needs to be straightened out again like meaning what Manson did. Time for Lowry to step up and sit in the box for five minutes. Benn has taken more than one cheap shot onSchiefele this series.

  14. Le's not forget Benn getting kicked with a skate while he was down by Scheifele but you refuse to show any of that. BS, half-assed one-sided story here.

  15. You obviously forgot to show Scheifele kicking Ben twice with his skate when they were in the scrum laying on the ice. Gee that has nothing to do with Benn getting up a bit pissed.

  16. Cute that you manage to cut out the part where Schiefele kicks Benn with his skate blade while they're both on the ground. It's easy to paint the picture you want when you cut out the parts you don't like.

  17. The linesman messed up big time here. First he seems intent on manhandling Scheifele when Benn is the instigator. Benn sucker punches while the ref is tangling Scheifele!! The linesman should have been restraining Benn!! The extra penalty was for Tanev being the 3rd man in.

  18. You’re nuts. Scheifele pushes the linesman’s arms away. Benn in sucker punching Scheifele, WHILE THE LINESMAN IS HOLDING SCHEIFELE’S ARMS, also nearly clocks the linesman in the jaw.

And you propose 1 game for Benn and 10 games for Scheifele???

    Again, you’re nuts

  19. I agree with the sentiment that the referees tend to call penalties on Canadian teams more than on US teams. In this series we have seen Dallas score a kicked in goal. Saw a goal scored against st Louis where the puck in the goalie's Glove is in the goal across the goal line… We have seen Jets players get minor concussions, sucker punched…etc. Many players are laying on late hits, cross checks, etc. When a Canadian team's player does it the Refs call it. When the US player does it… Ref saw nothing. It would be interesting to see the statistics on penalty totals for US vs Canadian teams.

  20. All speculation aside, team loyalties aside, can we agree that the "maximum" fine being $5,000 is a joke?

These are NHL players, they can afford to pay an actual fine, especially as a "maximum".

$5,000 is nothing to these guys.

  21. 10 games for Scheifele ? Are you insane ! Just for putting distance between himself and the ref? 😂 😮

  22. As @Krach911 mentions, the reason why Scheifele pushes the ref off of him is because the ref was restraining him while Benn punched him in the face. If the refs don't have both parties restrained they have to let them both go you can't just choose one guy, while the other guy is let free to continue. If you do that then you are a party to the violence and it is reasonable that Mark defends himself from being restrained further by this person.
This is a lot like the situation that happened to Maurice Richard in Boston, where Maurice was restrained and then the Boston player clocked him. Maurice then decked the ref and got thrown out of rest of the season and Montreal rioted.
