Columbus has never been a true Cup contender, but they are putting the pieces together and could be a contender in the near future.

Hmmm. I think coming off of btb wins against the Caps would've swung the series momentum if MTL had fumbled their last game.
I think we would've seen them make it to round 2.
I think the Jackets would have been contenders this year, even with the loss of Johnny. If it hadn't been for injuries derailing their winning streak and then Carolina handing Montreal a playoff spot by sitting their best 7 players in the finale, Columbus would have steamrolled the Capitals.
The fact that CBJ have so much cap space should honestly terrify every team going into Free Agency. They could quite literally throw a max contract at Mitch Marner without even blinking, and still have money left over to sign another top defenseman and keep all their UFAs/RFAs. Of course, I don't expect them to do that, but it's fun to think about.
8:50 sounds like he said regular shits
Life long Jackets fan. I felt hopeless after Johnny passed. This team far exceeded expectations and fan support was tremendous this year. I think a lot of players are going to look at how caring Columbus was for the Gaudreau family and how exciting the team is and will want to start coming here
THG's comments on our ability to win on the road will haunt me until it turns around – So painfully true. Always appreciate your coverage of us and cannot wait to see how we come into next season with a full offseason under Evanson.
1:58 looking at you, Severson
Thanks for that parting gift, Jarmo
Would be great to see Columbus be a cup contender finally
If THIS was my boys on the “low pressure, low expectations” season, I can’t WAIT to see a high expectations season! I’m still a bit skeptical about Jet though, he was a brick wall but I hope he holds up now that every other goalkeeping coach can study tape of his style.
Always appreciate seeing kind words about the Jackets in online spaces. Some seasons have been rough
Columbus's biggest conundrum lies between the pipes. Elvis still has two years to go on his contract with no trade interest forthcoming, Tarry's an RFA meaning if nobody else takes him – which, given his spotty-at-best track record, seems more likely than not – he's stuck in Columbus, and the final year of Jet's contract is one-way, meaning he can't be sent back to Cleveland. To tell Jet to take a hike after he nearly single-handedly willed that squad into the postseason would be the ultimate middle finger, and it would do serious damage to the CBJ's crusade to build up Columbus's reputation as a desirable destination for upper-level talent. Assuming no trades or offers are on the table, a contract buyout seems nearly unavoidable at this point in time.
Thanks Shannon for the review of the Blue Jackets! It was a great year for us fans in Columbus, nobody expected the season we had. I thought for sure we were going to be basement dwellers. Everyone is excited for next year! Keep up the good work
I expect nothing from Columbus, or any of the teams that didn't make it. Just another NFL
rooting for the jackets
If one franchise in sports deserves a good run its CBJ. From the tragedies with the young fan, the active players passing, on top of the losing seasons and lottery misses. I hope they can be a new Carolina.
July 1st is my bday. The best bday gift I could get is the jackets signing a big free agent💯
One key undiscussed contribution: a career offensive year from Mathieu Olivier, enabling him to play full time on the 3rd line. Don't underestimate the value of having a top-shelf fighter on the ice and not just on the 4th line – it's amazing how much less the young guys like Fantilli, Marchenko and Kent Johnson got pushed around and hit with Olivier as a credible retribution threat. He absolutely earned the 6-yr extension he got this year.
For the love of god, please get Elvis outta here. He’s bad on and off the ice.
Olivier wasn’t even discussed or did I miss it?
They’re gonna throw the bag at Fabbro. Him and Werenski were something special together this year.
Fantilli is succeeding like I knew he would. Too often in Columbus’ history they drafted guys like Zherdev who acted like they’d been taken by Siberia, or absolute flops like Picard who set the team back years. Not with this super kid.
