  1. Now bring on the alpha power forward akin to the coach! MIKKO Knies and Tkachuk squared are stars… we need our version and better off if he’s a center too…

  2. Now bring on the alpha power forward akin to the coach! MIKKO Knies and Tkachuk squared are stars… we need our version and better off if he’s a center too… but give me McQueen if we can’t get Hagens and trade or offer sheet for the power forward

  3. I really like it. Tocchet has pedigree and knows in the ins and outs. He was a winner as a player and I like his coaching style.

  4. Does Brad Shaw stay? And I know he is 75 years old now but would Tocchet bring in Mike Keenan as an assistant or for another pair of eyes to help in some capacity?

  5. Hi Jason, great news!! Whether Rick T. is the ideal coach for us will become clear in a few months. I would say it also depends on D.B.'s next decisions!
Hey, our three boys are having a blast at the World Cup…FANTASTIC!!! Jason, get well soon, and THANK YOU for everything!!! 🤘🥅🏒

  6. There isnt really anyone out there. Dunno I think he can help get free agents but have to see. They need to fix the PP and obvious areas need major upgrades

  7. I was excited about hiring Torts but knew it wouldn’t end will most likely. I’m oddly really excited about this hire, I think we can compete for a playoff spot with him as coach.

  8. I don’t think tocchet will hurt this team but this really felt like a chance to get a young progressive coach for the future. The worst case of this hire is the most likely based on his track record, mediocrity. I still hope it works.

  9. It’s too bad. I think everyone old enough to see Tocchet play loved him as a Flyer, but his head coaching record is really spotty. Missed the playoffs in 7 of his 9 years. No track record at all of attracting or bringing star players aboard. The Flyers need a defensive system; with that comes good goaltending. His exit from the Canucks is troubling

  10. A coach is only as good as their goaltender. Why have the flyers head coaches lasted on average of 2.3 years?

  11. Thanks Jason, I hope you're doing well. I'm sorry for all the tired narratives you'll have to deal with coming from this move. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of it because I'm not as sold as the inner hockey community on Tocchet's track record. I think he's done well with really good teams. He doesn't have that here. Nevertheless, I agree with the positives of this move and now I turn to hope.

Meanwhile, with good teams getting railroaded out of the playoffs like Vegas and probably Toronto, I am hoping Danny is looking at some players to poach on these rosters. The way Toronto is playing, they HAVE TO make a change. I hope Danny is calling about Matthews, personally. Maybe they look to move him and prioritize keeping Tavares and paying Knies, while moving on from Matthews and Marner? Also, TOR is pretty deep in goal. Maybe we could score Woll or Hildeby as part of a deal. And Vegas, I expect Eichel is untouchable but calling about Hertl, Roy, or Barbashev feels worthwhile. Personally, even though they're still rolling, I'd call Florida about Lundell and see what that may cost and try to make it happen.

  12. Will be interesting to see what Tocchet can do with Tippet. Could be the perfect mentor for that kid. Getting the assistant coaches right is critical. Please bring back Shaw.

  13. I like to see the distrust from the old fans. I like to see long time fans worried about another former Flyer alumni.

If Toccet understands Philly, he needs to have success with the old fans – more than the new fans that he will bring in.

If the players want a coach who blends strict with all the other parts of a good coach, and if his staff is well organized, they need to play hard from October to the very last game.

  14. I feel somewhat mid on this BUT – I like Tocc, I want him to succeed more or less regardless of where he goes, and I think the fact that he played here is an upside. (not sure why this pisses so many people off) … I maybe would have preferred someone younger or more development-focused but hey, I'm excited to see how it goes.

  15. I did not want them to hire Tocchet. Not because he is an ex-Flyer though. I don't have an issue with that at all. Loyalty is an admirable trait. There are a large percentage of people in this country working jobs where there is no loyalty shown, no matter how hard they work. Back to Tocchet. I don't think he is the right guy for the job right now. I didn't want them to hire a doormat as a coach, but I think some of the younger guys need a little leeway.

  16. the former Flyer thing as a head coach is taken out of proportion, however former Vancouver coaches is starting to trend. (Alain Vigneault, Tortorella, and now Tocchet)
So, after this Rick Tocchet thing bottoms out in 3 years, Adam Foote will be footing the bill behind the Flyers' bench.

  17. Briere better shape this roster over the next 2 seasons starting at the Draft. We all get to watch and see if he has the stones to make impact decisions concerning on ice NHL TALENT.

  18. Being a former Flyer is a good thing. I think he will work harder for a team he loves. Also, it’s not like they turned down Scotty Bowman to hire a rookie
