Isles have to change their thinking and the culture. Isles have no aura, no pride in franchise anymore with those dynasty days two generations ago. This is on ownership who seem content to just make $$$'s off of the nhl's most expensive building. Strive for those cup days once again, not chasing measly eighth each season.
And that is correct. You build isles as a 21st century nhl team with a young skilled core and can begin that process with top pick of draft. I still say take misa and rebuild the fwds. first. Get your mcd, leon, mack, or rantanen then you add your bouchard or makar to compliment those highly skilled guys that are difference makers. mack. and rantanen have a cup, mcd and leon have oil one game from wcf again. And ask stars how they like that mikko trade now-a difference maker that just might get stars all the way this season. Go misa, get additional picks, and shoot for that skill guy to go with misa in next year's loaded draft or grab that d man.
Crucial time for isles. They need to get proper gm, hide louzer in a closet, and get this draft and re-build re-do done right. Post bow tie don baloney failed and started the downtrend. milbury was impulsive and too impatient with re-building isles. Snow had mixed results but couldn't finish the job. Louzer is leaving isles in tatters for next gm. And all the isles big scorers were all thanks to bow tie. From drafting 19 and 22 in '70's, to the trade and pick that got 16, to the 16 for 77 deal, To bow ties last great pick drafting the other 16 in '91 draft. Pathetic how all those gm's since bow tie can't find scoring impact fwds with pj judas who never hit 50 g or 100 pts. as an isle the closest.
Islanders have to get back to what made them a great team. Smart drafts and trades. Islanders cannot sign top or even quality UFA's at this point.
I honestly dont believe that this ownership grp will support a rebuild rather a retool. I dont see this grp wanting more than 2-3 years worth of pain. Islanders need a bold GM with a strong background in scouting and player development. This organization needs a GM sooner rather than later. We are going into the draft with the old regime calling the shota at the draft. We need a GM now so he can be in place to try to make a run at isaac howard and make some impactful trades. Otherwise once again who is calling the shots
This GM search is like watching paint dry. Capt. Obvious would say the new GM needs time to get on point with his staff and properly evaluate the cap/roster Sparky. It’s Deja vu cramming for finals all over again. The draft is 6/27 for goodness sake. I want to be cool hand Luke, but my agita GIL. Analysis by paralysis, the early bird gets the worm, Yada Yada, get off the pot and hire a young gun who ls good at development and likes analytics and a ham egg cheese salt pepper ketchup on a roll. I’ll bet U Dollars to doughnuts You can’t swing a dead cat in Medicine Hat and not hit a moose humper in the head who is chomping at the bit to be an NHL GM, google it. LGI…
I think there's plenty of people who want the GM job. The fact is ownership is denying most of the candidates cause they want to go with the same old bullshit of playing the rotating GM game of getting a GM that was GM for other teams prior. These GMs dont really care about their teams, cause they actually have no team pride. They do the job for a paycheck.
Kevin Weeks wanted the GM job and from what I know wasn't even given a fair chance. Former islander with tremendous love for the game and islanders management gave him barley a look. Lou still has his hands in the pot and there is an internal power struggle inside of the organization that have opposite views of which direction to go.
Every time I think of the draft picks louzer traded away I get so angry. As a whole Louzer did more harm than good to the islanders. That’s the reason why I don’t have the respect for him a lot of others do, not to add that he walks around so arrogantly thinking he owes no one an explanation.his last season of significant success was 2003
to think what Lou has done in the last few years not acquiring first rounders…in 2020 we missed out on trying to gat a Cole Perfetti, or a Seth Jarvis..in 2021 not a pick until # 52 Raty, where is he now? In 2022 our number 13 went to the Blackhawks, they get Frank Nazir who is 21 and played for the first time in the NHL this season 56 games, 13 G, 14 A, 26 points. in 2023 we get Nelson late. who is going back to school…cannot continue to trade away first rounders…
Whew it’s a blessing holland passed
Hope they Add Matt Martin to staff in some capacity! Great work Gil !
Team needs a 2 year retool. I don’t think anyone on this team should feel safe. Barzal Dobson I would trade at draft. Sorokin and horvath are the only 2 I would keep.
Roy see ya as well.
Good 🌄, Gil. How are you? The search for a new GM is still ongoing. I feel bad for him/her because they'll be cleaning up his mess. YOUTH, SPEED, PHYSICALITY, AND EXPERIENCE is just what they need. The Islanders shouldn't trade away for a quick fix, and if they're going to trade, TRADE WISELY. They may have parted ways with Lou Lamoriello, but he's still circling the organization like a vulture. Bo Horvat is putting on a show for Team 🇨🇦 and so is Noah Dobson. I'm glad the Islanders have players that are playing in the World Championship. The search for a GM just like the search for a Head Coach, only it takes longer. Matt Martin. At 36 years old, he was on the bench for most of the season, he missed being a member of the 1,000 Game club. He gets a C+. I hope ge stays with the club on a different basis. HAPPY 🎂, STEVE TAMBELLINI. A 1st Round Draft Pick I. 1978. He played at Lethbridge, where he obliterated all of Bryan Trottiers' scoring record, even wore his jersey #10. His son, Jeff, played for the Islanders as well. He scored a goal and 2 assists in a 6-2 over Winnipeg. Hear from you later, Gil. I was 👀 a piece on Trots that was done on on PM Magazine on Ch.5. He said that he won every major 🏆 given to a center, especially the Conn Smythe, and the Stanley Cup at 24 years old. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
The Islanders are basically the Torrey/Arbour years. Nothing really since. Except lousy situations. Barclays Center. The gang of 4. Wang. Milbury. Etc etc. at least they have a building and a practice facility. But they still treat the fans like idiots. Lousy expensive parking. Lousy LIRR access. Why is everything a mile away? And the worst. Listening to ticket packages promoted during games that cost less than your season tix.
Spot on Gil, Retool, Rebuild absolutely. Would help to hit a homerun with our #1 pick this year/ LGI
Gil you are always spot on. Thanks for all your hard work. As we enter the spring and summer months would it be possible to interview former players/Longtime season ticket holder-fans and hear of their tales associated with the NYI. You Rock!
Don't forget the two first-round picks next year.
Personally I think and I know this is not the popular opinion. The islanders should trade back to let’s say Nashville (5th pick) and get evangelista and a 4th/5th. I really don’t think any of this draft class are franchise players. So why not get a top prospect and a high 1st pick and a mid draft pick to bolster the farm system. If you could trade mayfield for a 4th/5th or even a prospect to clear cap that would be amazing too.
I'll say it again trade away whoever you can stockpile draft picks and build the right way let the young guns play i think the fans won't mind and lower ticket prices while you rebuild
