I say trade the first pick to San Jose for the second pick (Misa) and San Jose’s first pick next year. That way, we get the scorer we need, and puts us in a great position in next years draft with McKenna, where we would have 3 picks in that draft.

Cause those are McDavid elite type of numbers Misa's putting up, while being the captain, this is generational talent – so why do the scouts have him 2nd and Schaefer 1? You take the best player available, regardless of need. Schaeffer is that player. These kinda defenseman are what the modern game is. Look at Makar, Hughes, Hutson. He's only 17, already 6'2 180. 75% of the league grows up rooting for the maple leafs. Take your emotions out of it
if the islanders do not draft Misa, the owners should get out of the NHL business. You should sell the team. If you draft a guy who only played 17 games over a player who scored 62 goals in 65 games, get out of the hockey business.

The ONLY way I draft Schaefer is if I have a draft and trade deal inked with Sanjose that guarantees Macklin Celebrini and SJ's 2nd round pick for Schaefer. Why? Macklin has proven he can score at the NHL level, and he's closer to making our (soon to be aging) core (Sorokin, Dobson, Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom) relevant in a cup run.
Really hammering on that “exceptional status” thing. That term has lost its value, it used to be like once every 5 years someone was exceptional, now it’s every year/every other year
BPA is still Schaefer. They say his skating is like Makar's. Also, when choosing first overall…BPA is the only way to go. FYI..they did a list of all the first overalls for the past 10 years…Shaefer is one spot ahead of Dahlin.
Misa as the leading scorer did not make team Canada world juniors while Schaefer did as the second youngest player on the team. I don’t really think it’s much of debate who the best player in this draft is and it’s Schaefer. Schaefer has superstar potential while the scouts don’t see that with Misa.
Like I said in previous posts if im the new GM I’m taking best player available. IMO going for a NEED is not wise. Mathew Schaefer, a 2 way defenseman that has the potential to be a franchise defenseman is who I’m selecting 1st overall

Exceptional status. 62 goals. Productive and most talented. Superstar who plays defense. Schaf is no makar No one is. Schaf doesn’t play D well.

And i don't care about this take the bpa or take schaefer because he skates real pretty stuff. bpa doesn't apply to isles when they have such a specfic need. And if they pass on misa where are their future g scorers? ritchie is a fine prospect yet is still mostly playmaker he doesn't have explosive g scoring ability. And eiserman is a g scorer with flaws that dropped at the draft for a reason. That is it. The big time scorer that isles need can only be found at the top of the draft. sj wins either way be taking whoever is there at 2 and if misa goes to sj with celebrini and those young guys they have coming will light it up. Or if they add schaefer to those guys with dickinson coming they will be lethal. sj doesn't lose in a bpa situation. Isle do because schaefer does no good when fwds. are piss poor. You do like avs did. Draft mack, mikko, then you add makar. Or do like sabres did draft generational dahlin and lose for 7 seasons.
MISA ALL THE WAY . Shafer s small and broke his collerabone which will be a problem see calvin dahan who also had a collerbone issue when we dfafted him … shafer years away Misa can play now . Plus we can trade spots with san jose .they NEED shafer …
If the Isles prefer him as their pick, they should trade down to #2 and get something from San Jose who would likely prefer Schaffer. I love both players and the Isles won't go wrong in taking either.

Misa learned the center position in last couple of years thats why he didn't make under 18 juniors he's legit playmaker
