  1. Other teams have a tax advantage. Why can't the leafs use there money advantage? Go ahead and use LTIR. other teams do when it comes to the play offs.

  2. Defensive Defencemen in particular can still be serviceable until the early 40s. Just front load the contract and it should be fine: SIX YEARS: Years one and 2, 6 million per. years 3 through 6, 2.5 mil per. = 6 years $22 million. = $3.67 AAV Cap Hit

  3. It'll be very hard to prove that the Leafs and Tanev didn't plan for him to play to the end of the contract. The Leafs aren't breaking any rules, same goes for Vegas. I don't think the NHLPA minds that the Leafs do this. The rule the NHL needs to implement first is to have an adjusted cap for every team that takes into account state taxes (among other things), so that teams like Nashville, Tampa Bay, Florida, etc, don't have an advantage when signing players.

  4. I would rather have Zadorov. Younger less risk and of course his size is a must have. RD go for Montour, Matt Roy, Alexander Carrier.

  5. I agree with you , but he has a lot of miles on him. I would not go any longer than a 4 yr deal at $4.25 mill for Tanev. Warren Foegele is a 28-year-old left winger, would look nice in a Leaf Jersey!

  6. Smart cap gymnastics. Toronto should point out tax advantages of certain teams. Further Toronto should refuse revenue sharing the NHL is screwed without it.

  7. Fuck the league! The Leafs are the only team the NHL would dare give grief to after so many teams have been scamming with LTIR and NOW they wanna keep an eye on it!?!? It's time the Leafs start flexing with the juice they have. The one team in the league that pretty much guarantees 82 top-priced sell-outs a year and they are taken for granted by everyone and fucked over by every US team with the tax system.

  8. One it's not Toronto's fault that the league didn't cover their ass on these types of contracts. So I don't see how they can punish them for working within the rules.

Two you don't see this type of complaining about teams like Vegas and Tampa Bay who virtually circumvent the cap every playoffs by bringing somebody off IR. That move is more blatant and detrimental to other teams.

So Bettman can take his hypocritical ass and go stand in the corner to cry for all i care. The leafs have been propping up his Golden boy team in Arizona for how long now. They kind of earned this type of advantage. Other teams should learn from it.

  9. Gm are going to cry now of what the leafs are doing they will say you only could front load 1 yr not 7 the the cap it is like 1 million and the player will go litr😂

  10. 6 years at $3.3 or 7 years at $3M for Tanev and to hell with the league who has let Tampa and Vegas work the system!

  11. When the player gets his contract 85 %front loaded its buy out proff incentive to sign players like Columbus players don't want to go there gm will over pay a player to come over

  12. you guys are funny domi just robbed the leafs , no team in the nhl was signing him , dallas got better without domi , how many teams has domi been on and never made a team better, the leafs are never winning a stanley cup

  13. The league did nothing when Tampa and Vegas exploited LTIR to circumvent the cap. They both buried huge contracts for their highest paid stars like Kucherov and Stone, who miraculously recovered as soon as the playoffs began.

On top of this, Florida and Nevada (where the Cup winning Lightning, Golden Knights and Panthers are based) have no state income tax, giving them a HUGE advantages over Ontario, where players forfeit over 13% of their salaries in provincial taxes.

If the league comes down on Toronto after allowing Cup winners from Florida and Nevada to use LTIR and tax codes to cheat the system, then it proves that Bettman is completely biased against Canadian teams!

  14. Tanev wants too secure his future until retirement. He doesn't want to move again. If not with the Leafs he will do it with another team. However Tanev is 34 years old. I think 4 million for 6 years is too much money for a guy that might only have 2 years of top level hockey left in him. 4 million for 2 years and then re-evaluate or 2 million for 6 years.
