Should the Red Wings offer sheet Matthew Knies?

Matthew Knies. Evan Bouchard. Marco Rossi. All are high profile RFAs, and normally offer sheeting is rare and considered bad business. But, after the success St. Louis had poachin two young players from Edomonton last season, has the mindset shifted? Also, is it worth the picks Detroit will have to pay in compensation? #LGRW

  1. This is an easy yes. It is reported that Toronto wants to lock in Knies to 8 years, while Knies wants more of a bridge deal. If you present an offersheey of 9 mil a year for 4 years, I dont see any scenario where Knies doesn't sign it. We give up a 1 a 2 and a 3, but we already have more picks and prospects than we know what to do with and are in desperate need of a player like Knies. Unfortunately, I also don't see a scenario where Toronto doesn't match it, but what it will do is make their negotiations with their other free agents much more difficult. Who knows, maybe we even get lucky for once.

  2. Evan Bouchard NO and Rosehill is saying Marner is too soft for the playoffs. Now I’m hearing Bennett which would be pretty pathetic of Yzerman going after an another old dude coming off a couple of Stanley cup playoffs runs looking for a pay day. If Bennett comes here he will be another old Yzerman free agent signings that has a down year, pretty much like every other Yzerman free agent signings.

I do like the idea of going after Knies because Yzerman SUCKS at drafting North American power forwards.

  3. Don't overpay, the time is not now. The team should not be built around a dylan larkin timeline but more a raymond, kasper timeline

  4. How can people even hesitate? In every draft, every team is looking for a player with their first pick who can step right into the first line. Here we have a player who can do just that — whose playing style could even complement Larkin and Raymond. Plus, we don’t have to sit around waiting 3–4 years for him to be ready. What are we giving up? A few draft picks just to skip the wait, and we already know he’s ready. And for those who think the contract will be too big — if he’s as good as Raymond or even better, then he’s worth just as much

  5. Bowen Byram has asked for a trade from Buffalo. He has sold his home in Buffalo and wants to play on the top pair as #1 defenseman. Would you guys be interested in trading for Bowen Byram? He would solidify Detroit's top 4 defense. Detroit Red Wings future defense pairings:

    Byram Seider
    Edvidsson ASP
    Johansson Johansson
    Wallinder

  6. It's weird that L.A. is signing Ken Holland, who was the former GM of Edmonton, who may know may or not know how to defeat Edmonton Oilers in the playoffs possibly more than any GM candidate.🤣

  7. really?? are you REALLY going to have have to "grossly overpay" these players? was 2.2 million such a ridiculous overpay for dylan holloway as a SEVENTY POINT PRODUCER dude??? was 4.4 million such a ridiculous overpay for a #1 D-man in Broberg?? its ridiculous that Yzerman was too stupid to make those moves himself. 7 million a year would not be an overpay for Knies or Bouchard especially if Knies is going to be a 30+ goal 80 point 1st line wing or Bouchard is essentially a top blue-liner. Bouchard may end up costing too much though. you have to identify teams in salary cap trouble with young ascending talent that they wont be able to match or a team in transition that the new GM would make a mistake evaluating talent like the islanders. when the salary cap jumps 7 million a year it makes this a difficult task to succeed.

  8. They should target Will Cuylle instead. Similar player and higher probably of success getting him from the NYR.

  9. Someone will offer sheet Knies. Why not Detroit?
I hope GMs do not believe in some sort of "gentleman's" agreement where you want to maintain good relations with other teams. I think this concept was created so when a GM is fired they are able to go to any team for a job not one whose plans they up ended with an offer sheet.

  10. Knies the player? Sure. The Leafs have too much cap space and would match anything to keep him.

The only viable RFA targets are

-Bouchard, who could easily be had with $10m+ and would be worth it (is a top ten Dman in the league worth that compensation?)

-Maverik Borque. Dallas has only $5m in cap space with five or six roster spots to fill. You could snatch him away easily without much a fight and without losing a first.

-Cuylle and Miller from NYR. New York has five roster spots to fill with just $9m. You could probably trap the Rangers into choosing who to keep and who to let go by offersheeting both. They don't have very many movable contracts to clear up space right now.

  11. Which recent Wings second round pick wouldn't you give up in a deal for Niese or Bouchard? And forget about the 3rds 😂😂😂

  12. Any talk of who Yzerclown will sign is a joke. This team has been going on a decade without the playoffs. He doesn't have the guts to make a big move, and who wants to play for the losing Wings? There are a million teams making the playoffs; they will be much more desirable than this train wreck.

  13. Yzerman basically said he has no interest in offer sheets, so I feel like these conversations are, unfortunately, moot.
