At this point keep 3rd line together, maybe pump them up as the 2nd line (if that even matters) and mix and match first and 2nd line players…
The entire D looks old and slow (likely because they are).
Breakaway odd man rushes have to be stopped, we can’t pinch and recover.
Chucky, Swaggy, Rhino, Bennett, and Rodrigues are all missing in action and not seen since Tampa (and some all season).
It’s great that the 3rd line is doing well.
But you can’t win if your top 6 aren’t producing… Toronto knows this all too well.
Must win on Friday and then we’re right back in it.
Cats know how to win in this situation but they’ve played a lot of hockey over the last two seasons and look gassed (and almost all of them played in the 4 Nations).
Leafs are learning how to win and have been gaining in confidence since the last few weeks of the regular season.

Rodriguez has a history of embellishment and the right call was made. Hopefully the league looks perhaps a suspension for Rodriguez. The coke head Ekblad should be out of this league for continuous drug violations.
You're on point when you say you can see the wear and tear from two consecutive finals runs. This is what Tampa looked like in '22 to start vs the Rangers and although they rallied and won that series, they had NO LEGS in the finals. The gas tank is a real thing.

What makes this 100X worse is that it’s against the Leafs. Their media (and most of their fans) are entirely insufferable. Especially the Steve Dangle types after Stolarz went down. Granted some of their media and fans are normal and objective, but even they would admit there’s good reason why 31 other fanbases can’t stand them.
I think on account of people just going "lol it's the Leafs," a lot of people have missed that the Leafs really ARE a different team this year. They aren't the guys that are all-out offense and hope to outscore their problems, like in the Keefe era.
They play a much simpler, much more defensively sound game. They're patient. They lead the league in blocked shots. They're regularly outshot by their opponents. Most of their wins, are 1 goal games. They have the raw talent, but they just wait for their opponent to make a mistake, and then pounce. Woll has gone from a solid prospect to a very confident 1B goalie who'd probably be the undisputed starter on any other team. Stolarz has been a blessing. Tanev, OEL, and Carlo have given the Leafs their best d-core in DECADES. Laughton has slotted in PERFECTLY in our bottom 6, and thanks to him, our 4th line has been one of our BEST these playoffs.
Between the Ovechkin race to break the record and the Jets race for the presidents trophy, it got lost in the shuffle that the Leafs were one of the hottest teams at the end of the regular season, winning 10 of their final 12 games. Who knows if they have what it takes, and lord knows the Panthers won't give up without a fight. That 3rd line from Florida has been really good at taking the Leafs apart. But they're more ready for the playoffs than they've been in a very long time.

I watched my Bolts run out of gas…and it typically happens against an extremely hungry and capable team. For our boys, it was the Avs. Watching the Leafs right now…they’re hungry, capable, and desperate. Gonna take a lot to push them out of the way.
The games are tight, anyone could have won. But the Leafs ability to get timely goals is insane especially the response goals when the Panthers score.
As a Canadian and a Leaf fan I am impress with you thoughts on the game and hockey IQ. I guess not all Americans are hockey idiots lol

Last nights game Toronto totally switched their game up! They laidback clogged the front of their net and played counter attack which worked to a tee! As bad as this series feels we’ve only lost by 1 goal each! Props to Toronto for besting the Panthers so far but we’re not done! Go cats!

Really weak embellishment call I agree… I said to myself as the play happened, “that’s kinda embellishment, but they won’t call it” and 5 seconds later they ended up calling it. ERod got his hands up enough on the hit that he didn’t actually hit his face on the boards. Easy boarding call on Laughton 100%. But once the ref saw that ERod didn’t actually hit his face on the boards, and then fall on the ice, throw his stick, roll around like he was shot by a 12 gauge and hold his face. I think the ref gave a “hey F you buddy I know you’re milking it for an extra call” that’s the only reasoning I can think for why the call was made.
As one of the best divers of all time when I played (self proclaimed), I knew exactly what Rodriguez was doing there, and he gets a no-call there 99% of the time.

In the same situation, the Oilers pulled Skinner, and Pickard won 4 straight. A goalie change can sub-consciously affect all players and coaches of the game, including the other team. (5 straight now)😄👍

But… WHAT A GAME!!! Cats are a hell of a team… I have Florida in 7 in my bracket and I can still see it happening…
In 6 playoff games this season the Florida Panthers have attempted to injure 6 different players.
The Florida Panthers have played 6 games so far in the 2025 playoffs and in those six games they have attempted to or successfully injured 4 different players.
1. Matthew Tkachuk attempts to injure Guentzel with a very late hit on Guentzel in response to the Hagel hit on Barkov from the game prior. Matthew Tkachuk was ejected and given a 5 minute major for this hit but was not fined or suspended
2. Niko Mikkola boarding against Tampa forward Zemgus Girgensons . Mikkola was given a $5k fine for this hit and no suspension.
3. Aaron Ekblad elbow to the head of Hagel. In game 4 of the Florida Tampa series Ekblad deliberately hit Hagel with an elbow to the head. Hagel left the game after the hit and missed game 5 because of it. Ekblad was given a 2 game suspension.
4. Sam Bennet head shot on Stolarz. Stolarz puked on the bench after the hit and left the game. He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. Unknown if there will be a fine or suspension at this point.
5. Matthew Tkachuk attempts to knee Mitch Marner after the game.
6. Ekblad elbows Woll in the head attempting to concuss him.
Panthers in 4 comments seem to have died off real quick.

Embellishment call is simple.
Panthers send guys to the dressing room to try and get majors, then bring the guy right back once the call is made.
The refs are sick of looking like fools and arent falling for the bullshit this time.
