Great players find ways to step up their game come the playoffs, you see it with so many players but not with Matthew's. Even if hes injured or not he has never stepped it up a gear or 2 in his whole playoff career, has he even had a hat trick in the post season? No
Matthew’s is fine when the leafs are winning these games. He might not be scoring but he is playing great defense and solid offense. The rest of the team is getting there’s and he’s a big factor in that. the problem is that when the leafs can’t get that going he needs to step up and deliver and he isn’t doing that. I expect a big game from him
This is why I think Nylander is the best offensive player on the Leafs. Out of the Core 4 or 5 if you include Mo, Willy is the only one who consistently shows up every year for the post season.
Marner plays great defensively every year but gets crapped on for not putting up playoff goals but Matthews gets praised for his overall game when he hasn't been able to hit the net all series 🤔
Austin is an emotional person although you would not think so at first glance. Immaturity can captivate the youth in the LEAFS?
Florida loses both away games and nobody says much; Leafs lose away games and it's scorched earth scenario. Barkov and Reinhart didn't even score in the first couple of games. I don't think anyone should be panicking at this point; it's going to be a very exciting conclusion to the series in a best of 3.
OMG!! What is it about TSN "ALWAYS" offering EXCUSES for Matthews' lackluster production in this year's playoffs (or any of his past playoffs for that matter.) FACT CHECK for TSN…Matthews starts to think about tee-off times once the regular season finishes. He is someone who believes in regular season laurels and (I'm going to be honest and frank here) he just hasn't shown Leaf fans that he has the HEART to win in the playoffs. And when I say win I mean go far, deep into the playoffs. To actually take the team deep. He just doesn't have it and hasn't shown it. Marner has pulled up his socks, he brings creativity and tries, Nylander we know does as do Tavares and Knies (what an uncut diamond in the rough) too. I wonder what independent sport psychologists would say?
Time for the coach to shake things up and call Matthews out publicly! He's been embarrassing
Martin laughs at the question on whether he believes Skinner is good enough to win with but then takes the diplomatic route of saying he believes Skinner can win. The goalie situation in Edmonton is a big joke in the media and hockey world. Have to feel bad for the guys there.

The Leafs, in game three of their 2025 conference semifinal, could’ve used a goal in overtime although that game should never have gone that far as they had already scored four goals. Defensively that game was a disaster.
Game four of the same playoff series featured no goals scored by any player on the leafs roster, shining a very bright light on inconsistent playoff point production from the AM34-Marner-William Nylander-Tavares-Morgan Rielly quintet. Of those quintet members, the existing contracts of Marner and Tavares expire next month although a loss of this conference semifinal hopefully will mean more changes to this team than just no more Marner or Tavares on it.
What a time to have a quite series 😁

In an interview a while back with Joe Buck, Gretzky recalled after losing 4-0 in the Final to the Isles…I paraphrase: He was walking out of the building with Lowe and Messier having to pass the Islanders locker-room and dreading it. He said when they looked inside the locker-room they weren't spraying champagne and going wild, but rather sitting there quietly totally spent and beat up from the grind of getting there and the toll it took on them…the individual sacrifices they all made. He said that he learned in the moment what it takes be a cup winner. Leafs have the opportunity in real time to learn this from the team they are playing. There are players on the Leafs whom these things wont be, or aren't lost on. But there are those on the Leafs of whom these things continue to be lost on…year in and year out…The Leafs need more of the former. Most of their player salary is tied up in a couple of players whom IMO languish in the latter category. Year after year I see it their body language, their expressions, their post game interviews…They love to win…but they don't look like it hurts to lose as much as others…they don't seem to grow from their pain…there is a disconnect somehow, an aloofness. This series is far from over…the season isn't over for the Leafs…they added good character pieces, of the kind the belong to the "former" grouping I speak of…the kind that Berube can work with…they need more of that. And hey they have what looks like a solid Goaltending pair…there is a lot to like about this Leafs team. The Islanders lost heartbreaking series after heartbreaking series leading up to their game 6 OT final win over the Flyers in 1980. I remember Bossy saying how that team learned something from every one of those losses…and the pain that came with them. A few weeks before 1980 playoffs, The Kings made a huge mistake in trading perhaps the best two-way center (Butch Goring) to the Isles…he became the missing piece that the Isles needed to get over the hump…he brought both Skill and busloads of character…Trottier would win the Conn Smyth that year…but Goring would win it the next year. I'm rambling but, Championship locker-rooms don't have anyone in the latter category I speak of…and they often made changes to bring in that one or two pieces of the puzzle…and those pieces usually have character and fortitude written into their DNA.
"So the Leafs drop both games in Florida" ….. Maybe just maybe the Panthers won both games in Florida….. If you don't see two great hockey teams here, then you're a hack like him ^
