Depends, if they sign Dobson or not. A tear down > Shaeffer all the way. Stay competitive > Trade 1st + calum ritchie + next year's 1st + prospect/more picks for Pasternak..? Keep Dobson + Injection of youth > trade down to 5 tops and get Hagens + young prospect.
3rd Overall + Kevin Korchinski to the Islanders for 1st Overall.
Hawks get to draft Misa so Bedard can have his future running mate for the next decade.
Isles get their hometown boy in Hagens and a defensemen with shades of a D men they’re all familiar with in Nick Leddy.
Making not drafting Schaefer hurt a lot less.
If they're taking Hagens might as well trade down.. I don't think the Hawks or SJ would take Hagens at #1 anyways.
Should be either Schaefer or Misa who are far and away the clear cut top 2 prospects in this 2025 draft.
No other team if they had the #1 pick would draft Hagens over those two. That in itself should be a warning for the Islanders if they go that route.
I understand he grew up on Long Island as an Islanders fan but that shouldn't play a significant role in who they should draft with the freaking #1 overall pick in June.
So many bring up they don't want another Tavares situation who was the #1 pick in 2009. You mean the player who was a 5x all star while he was with the Islanders and spent the first 9 years of his NHL career with the Islanders. If anything anybody they draft the Islanders like with Tavares they'll have team control over for nearly a decade. If you can't build a consistent winning franchise during that time frame to entice the player you draft #1 to stay there for 10+ years. Then that's on you as a franchise and I wouldn't blame any player wanting to leave an inept organization.
I think one big reason whny again Tavares left in 2018 after 9 seasons was that the Islanders only made the playoffs 3 times in his 9 year career with the Islanders including missing the playoffs his last two seasons there while never getting past the 2nd round and getting knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round 2 out of 3 times they made the playoffs.
Granted they unexpectedly made the semi-finals and conference finals in 2 of the next 3 years after he left in 2018 but that franchise has been sort of a mess for over the last 20 years now.

I want Schaefer. I don’t think teams should select players based on where they were born or what team they were a fan of. Best player available.
However, I’d be happy with any of the 3.
NYI need a centre or a wing as a first pick. D they can get via trade.

I dunno, man. NYI have been so boring for so long Misa would have to be tempting for them. He, Eiserman, and Ritchie would give them a pulse. But I'd still go with Schaefer. Btw, Yossarian is the protagonist in Joseph Heller's seminal novel Catch-22. The underlying joke of the novel is that he is the only sane man in his unit, but everyone thinks he's completely insane. I would trade the #1 to Chicago, collect some more pics, and pick up a young defenseman that they drafted in either in 2024 or 2022, and then pick Hagens…Could that work?
They’ll pick the wrong man. They are the worst organization in the last 40 years.
How can it take 6 months for a colar bone to heal. I bet he messed up the shoulder. They could trade with the Hawks and get Hagen and probably Kourchinski. Misa has a red flag. He was Meh last season.
Isles taking Schaefer. Hagans we will see you when you hit Free Agency. If he turns into a great player he might be the first top tier player to join the isles as a free agent in many moons if ever.

Forgive me Islanders fans, but from everything I heard the current Islanders prospect pool is pretty weak. If they like Hagens, wouldn't it make sense to trade down 2 or 3 spots, get Hagens with that #3 or #4 pick AND also get some more picks (or top prospect already in a teams system)?
Shaefer a defensemen like him doesnt come along to often.
Its gotta be michael misa. As an islanders fan for years this team has had no offense and our leading point scorer this season was horvat with 57. That just aint gonna cut it. You grab a player like michael misa and he will be nhl ready, will elevate this offense and will only get better as a player each year. Schaefer is great dont get me wrong but he isnt nhl ready and hes very young with an injury history and small sample size. Misa is the pick.
I just don't know enough about Schaefer to feel comfortable taking him #1. If he's as good as advertised absolutely.
But I think I want Misa.
The one thing I like about Hagen is he plays with islanders prospect Eiserman. I’d be happy with any three but you know Hagens heart will be in it. But I like all three
Hagens is the heart strings prospect thst would be a great story …. but its between Shaffer and Misa. Shaffer is is probably the right pick, but for me, I go Misa. Elite scoring is hard to find and I'd rather build an offensive juggernaut franchise … you add Misa to Richie and Eiserman … now you have 3 elite level forwards all primed to push the NHL sooner than later which could form the core of the offense in a quick rebuild
guess the theme ,McDavid, Matthews, Rantanen, Bennett, Draisaiti, have in common, Their scoring has put them in position for the Cup, Did you read about any D-Man helping these teams get where their are . Where is Makar? not playing. .Misa is the choice

Hedman was a better prospect then Schafer and isles ultimately went Taveras. Misa has same stats as Taveras playing 2 less games, and is a way better skater, prob more skilled. Have to take Misa.
