  1. They did a horrible job of explaining it and also the two assists don’t make sense…I think phrasing it as “trying to make a save” is a little misleading since he wouldn’t get credit for a save on a poke checking a puck heading away from the net…if the puck went off Helly’s stick which was planted on the ice then obviously no goal…since he made a clear action to play the puck I believe the rule doesn’t apply anymore. It’s a weird spot but if you don’t rule it a goal then basically a goalie has free rein to knock any kicked puck into his own net whether on purpose or not (since I think we all agree Helly was trying to knock it away from the net). Completely understand why Jets fans are angry since the rule book definition is horrible.

  2. jetz played ok, but thet gotta play solid 60. play comrie in game 4. then hellt 5 amd 6. valrdy is playing well. 44 was great. helly and ellers got to play better. go jets, get your tractiom back!!

  3. I am a St★rs fan. So I may just be looking through Victory Green glasses, but I don't understand why so much is being made over a goal/no-goal in a THREE GOAL LOSS. If the Jets lose by 1, I could understand, but…. Sorry not much of a controversy.

  4. Hey guys. Stars fan here. Ive seen the replay a few times now. And, man. Lets just say if everything was reversed, id definitely be irritated. Obviously i dont know all the rules. But watching that, it just looks like hes trying to make a save. So i dont know.

  5. Jets fans, you got screwed, no doubt. Stars fans are gonna bend themselves in pretzels to deny it, but its just guilt.
Now the Jets need to take this rightous indignation and channel it. In 2019, the Sharks beat the Blues in game 3 OT on a blatant hand pass that, at that time was unreviewable. (The worst part was Erik Karlsson smuggly laughing about it afterwards). It lit a fire under the Blues and they destroyed the Sharks in the next 3 games (the Sharks havent won a playoff game since.)
Take this kick and let it be the spark for winning. Godspeed!

  6. Good Lord you guys should change your name to the Winnipeg Karens. You lost by 3 goals ffs. But the rule book…. LMFAO

  7. The goal explanation is not an exception in the rulebook, therefore not a goal given it is both kicked in, and off goalie's stick, which are both rules that make it disallowed. A "deflection" is a change in direction – which obviously can include someone moving their stick to cause it and can include additional momentum to puck. To say it is a good goal because goalie knocked it in is like blaming someone for falling on knife after being stabbed and saying they murdered themselves. Chipman should insist that everyone responsible be canned for incompetence and deliberate negligence give they went out of their way to make up an exception.

  8. I'll make sense of it for you Rimo….It's not a deflection….quit citing the rule about kicked pucks and deflections. This was an 'own goal'.

There is a rule in the rule book…It's Rule 78.4

"A goal shall be scored if the puck is shot into the goal by a player
of the defending side. The player of the attacking side who last
touched the puck shall be credited with the goal but no assist shall be
    awarded."

It doesn't matter if the attacking player kicks it…..

Agree…they need to take away any assists awarded. Would that make Jets fans happy? Doubt it.

  9. I think the distinction between a deflection and a goalie and his own stick’s swiping momentum in the direction of the net is self evident (except to the emotionally blind). Had Hellie been still guarding the pipe and it deflected off of him – no goal. But his body and stick were in motion, changed the direction of the puck and propelled it in. The NHL got it right. Only shocker was that it took more than 30 seconds of review.

  10. It was an own goal, so no assists should have been handed out. I also feel that any puck kicked from behind the goal line should not be seen as a kick at the goal.

  11. It was a bad call. The Dallas player tried kicking the puck to his stick, missed, and the goalie was in motion to make a save.

  12. Time to get 1 or both of the Big boy Dfense back into the game . We need a heavy hitter on D again to get the boys hitting again. And the PP needs to get it going already. We cannot go anywhere without special teams clicking more ofte. The officiating continues to suck in all games. Not saying we should have won but refs need to be better

  13. Alright, i fully agree it shouldve been ruled no goal, but youre whole "what do they expect hellebuyck to do? Leave it save it after" is just being ridiculous. If it was a pass and he stopped it and it went its still a good goal so this whole how he now has to recognize if its a kick or not is just dramatic. He doesnt have to recognize anything. Just dont deflect it into the net

  14. When the puck went off his skate it wasn’t even going towards the net it’s 100% an own goal by Hellebuyck. Instead of complaining about officiating how about be more critical of:

8 straight road playoff loses dating back to last season
1/13 on the PP from the best PP team of the regular season
The Jets fold like lawn chairs with any adversity in the playoffs

  15. As a former goalie it's probably the right call. Helle tried to make a controlled play with the stick to push it into the corner. If the puck had hit his pad and deflected in it's definitely no goal. But because he made a controlled play that went wrong it makes the kick irrelevant. He was intentionally trying to redirect it behind the net. The other problem and why this factors is it wasn't close to a shot on goal. Its a really tough play for Helle and ultimately it's just bad luck.

  16. WHO CARES ABOUT ONE STUPID GOAL IN A 7 GAME SERIES!! YOU GUYS NEED TO START SHAKING THINGS UP A LITTLE SO YOUR UNPREDICTABLE TO OTHER TEAMS STUDYING YOUR PLAYS,YOUR STYLE & BUCKIES WEAKNESSES! START STUDYING THE OPPONENTS FLAWS!!
EX…..95% of RANTANENS GOALS SCORED ON COLORADO & NOW YOU THE JETS are EXACTLY THE SAME!
HE RETRIEVES THE PUCK OFF THE BOARDS IN YOUR ZONE ZIG ZAGS FREELY (UNCHALLENGED) TO THE SLOT USING THE SCREENS..SHOOTS & SCORES!! CHALLENGE HIM EACH TIME.
BUCKY I’AM SURE IS EXHAUSTED PLAYING 82 GAMES…THE 4 NATIONS & NOW 10 GAMES INTO THE PLAYOFFS!!
MAYBE THROW COMRIE IN FOR A PERIOD HERE & THERE RESTING BUCKY & CONFUSING THE OTHER TEAMS KNOWLEDGE OF BUCKYS WEAKNESSES!!

  17. Guys, go read the actual rules if you're going to complain. In regards to awarding assists on own goals NHL rule 78.4 says this:

"A goal shall be scored if the puck is SHOT into the goal by a player
of the defending side. The player of the attacking side who last
touched the puck shall be credited with the goal but no assist shall be
    awarded."

And then everyone seemingly stops reading. Since Hellebuyck clearly didn't shoot it into his own net that wouldn't apply, but if you'd continue reading, the rules directly address the concern at hand:

"A goal shall be scored if the puck is put into the goal in any other
manner by a player of the defending side. The player of the attacking
side who last touched the puck shall be credited with the goal and
    assists may be awarded."

So the calls are consistent. Petrovic kicks the puck away from the goal mouth, but towards the crease. Hellebuyck played the puck causing it to go into his own net meaning it's not a deflection which is what the rule is specifying so it's an own goal. It's not a shot so the assists are still awarded.

Incredibly unfortunate, but the correct call was made.

  18. Habs fans riot. Jets fans do nothing…no wonder we get pushed around and abused by NHL.
Use the rule book. You can’t rely on refs feelings or judgements on what they think they saw. Never in the History of the NHL has that interpretation been used!

  19. Who cares about the kick/deflection. If y'all lost by 1 goal then I'd get it,but they lost by 3 so it's a none factor. "Oh 8 minutes of down time" yeah for both teams and Dallas scored quick. Go Stars

  20. 22 goals against in 4 road loss games??? You guys better find away to win away from the White Out…. And that’s not a guaranteed win anymore……… the Blues pounded the hell outta of the Jets and it’s really starting to show….. Jets look like they are out of fuel…….the high octane Stars offense are exploiting the jets

  21. Propel is to push the puck in a direction, Helly’s stick motion was to push the puck away from the net, but the kicked pucks momentum overpowered the force from the stick and ended up in the net, clear deflection by definition. Had the puck not been kicked towards the net it would never have gone in.

The fact the ref said it was kicked is the issue, they should have just said evidence was inconclusive to overturn the call on the ice.

For fans saying the Jets lost by 3 goals, do you not understand the concept of momentum in a hockey game? Or maybe Dallas fans are too comfortable winning cups by controversial decisions?

Jets need to play better, the rules need to be clarified.
