I honestly think Steve has it closer to correct than any mass conspiracy, the leafs have been on the softer side while under Keefe, they let stuff get to their head and became undisciplined, especially last year, they were out of control, playing like absolute idiots that final game against boston. So if a ref is making less calls they would get frustrated. That is not what happened last game though, I think its clear, between Berube, and some of the other changes to the line up this team is able to keep themselves in check. They just lost last night, because they were not going to sweep the panthers.
How was no penalty called when tht panther guy did a jump kick into one of the leafs player..

I was at the game and the refs missed so many tripping, holding, boarding calls by the Leafs. If the game was called fair, the Cats would have won 6-3 in regulation.
The Leafs beat themselves game 3. They scored at least one goal on themselves.
If I were a Panthers fan, I would be pretty concerned
Panthers don't seem to have any real answer for a Leaf team that just doesn't seem to care about things when they go wrong.

Wes is a better ref than those calling these penalties for high sticking on follow throughs or when you high stick your own player and get 2 powerplays, refereeing to washington on that one. I personally think the refs calling the current series are toronto homers and it shows.

Why can't it just be that certain refs favor/disfavor certain styles of play? If a ref is a stickler for calling rough stuff and a team likes to play rough they will get more penalties.
You can't complain about missed calls when at least 2 of the leafs goals including the overtime game winner came off a missed call. These playoffs have been very old school in the way of how the refs have been calling games

Should deep dive Wes McCauley with the Dallas Stars as well, Stars are something like 9-0 with McCauley as the Ref, and the Avs had to play with him as the Ref in game 7 of their series this year.

To be fair Wes was actually one of the refs in Game 2, which the Leafs won. So there is a 1 for the win column (and I’m a Leafs fan).

I subscribed as soon as you called out Kelly Sutherland. The guy gave a 5min major to Daniel Sedin for boarding in a series clinching overtime game from 200ft away. The entire series was 10 penalties to San Jose with 27 to Vancouver (not exaggerated, those are facts)
im trying to root for the leafs as a Canadian but all this whining and blaming the refs is making it tough, half of those losses with McCauley were 4 goal blowouts lmao , couple that with the fact that the leafs always have a losing record in the playoffs regardless of who's officiating and its not hard to realize the leafs have been the problem not the ref..

Blaming ref's for losing games is exactly why your franchise hasn't won a cup in half a century. Man up.
Problem with refs in general is that they do not want to influence the game by calling penalties but by acting in that way they are influencing the game. It changes the game when one team knows that they are not "due for a penalty" and they know that a they can get away with more. They are always trying to even things out in terms of penalties and the score even seems to influence the likelyhood of a penalty being called. As far as Wes McCauley there may have been something there but I do not know that for sure. Would be interesting to see if that record continues with either Keefe or the leafs.
