  1. I can't see Schaefer being effective in the NHL next year. He is one of the youngest prospects. He needs to fill out and log a ton of minutes to make up for being injured most of the year. I'm okay with the isles picking him but him playing right away just isn't smart.

  2. That would be amazing. But if the sharks gm even considered that they would be sent to Bhutan. Absolutely brutal trade no offense

  3. This would be a ridiculous trade from the Sharks' standpoint. The Sharks consider Sam Dickinson (29g, 62 assists, +64 in 55 games) to be nearly as good as Schaefer, so the Sharks agreeing to an even-up swap of the two would not even be guaranteed — much less Misa and Dickinson for Schaefer.

Plus the Sharks don't need someone who can step in right away. We're not going to challenge for the Cup in 2025-26: that's still a couple of seasons away.

    I want whatever you're smoking (or drinking)…

  4. SJ fans have had such great interactions with NYI fans over the last few days since the lottery. So happy for NYI and you deserve this bounce of good luck. But this right here is offensive. Not based in reality or even worth discussing. Are you new to hockey? Pardon me I have to vomit again.

  6. As a Sharks fan, I’d be livid if we traded Dickinson for a chance to draft Shaeffer. I don’t see Grier doing that at all.

  7. That would be a bad trade for the Sharks. The value gap between Schaefer and Misa is significantly less than Sam Dickinson. The gap is even smaller when you consider that the Sharks are desperate for more defensemen. Giving up Dickinson would make their weakness at D even weaker. It would make more sense foe the Sharks to deal from their strength which is forward. They have two high-quality forward prospects in Musty and Chernishov. Grier might be willing to give up Musty.

  8. There is no way SJ will swap picks with the NY Islanders and include Sam Dickinson in the trade. That just ain't happenin'.

  9. News flash: This years #1 pick ISN'T named McDavid.
The Isles need 3 or 4 NHL ready prospects to help Barzal and Horvat before they turn 33. I don't see any team having that to give, even if they wanted to. IMO, the only path to a true contender is a complete rebuild, with Dobson and Sorokin as the only untouchables.

  10. Will Schaefer play a game before the draft? Would love to see how he heals up and if smashing into the goal and breaking his collarbone impacts his game. I’m guessing that’s just going to be a risk we’d have to take

  11. I thought of the same trade scenario as well. I don’t know if they’ll do it, but if this kid is supposed to be generational, then Sam Dickinson is nothing compared to that.

  13. Grier is too smart. Trading picks would include probably a 3rd round pick. This is not a generational player.

  14. a lot of so called islanders fans have come to the conclusion that schaefer the second coming of bobby orr people please i rather have a proven scorer in misa then a unknown in schaefer

  15. islanders have not had a 100 point scorer since pierre turgeon during the 1992-1993 season they need a offensive superstar and that player is misa

  16. i do not want to spend the number 1 pick on a defensman when we cant score. sure he can skate has nice hands but he is not filled out and has a bad shot from the blue line misa has the talent to be one of the best offensive players in the game..

  17. only one time since 2007 has a defenseman picked first in the nhl draft islanders do not waste your future pick misa..

  18. If Lou was still Gm he would have traded the no.1 pick for a 35+ year old but on a serious note I hope we don’t trade down. How often do you get a number pick especially after we had a 3.5% chance of winning.

  19. Life long fan, get schaefer and get rid of Dobson, why the Dobson love, he stinks, worst defender, minimal offense although good, slow, soft on wall, never picks up a guy burned on blue line, terrible, never pay him, get trade pic or dobson for Dickinson, save $ for big strong defensive all around better prospect

  20. I would keep the first pick, and try to trade back in with Chicago for Hagens (work out a package with Dobson as the centerpiece.)

  21. Get Hagens and maybe try and trade back into first and grab Radim Mrtka if they can. Shafer injuries concern me and he’s only what 17 or 18

  22. Do you think the Isles will accept the trade if the Sharks trade their own 1st round pick + the Stars' 1st round pick this year instead? I personally think it would make the most sense if the Isles trade down w/ the Preds or Flyers as both teams already have 2 late 1sts each, and there's not that many ways they can make good use of them other than maybe flipping one of them for either a player or trading up their own pick

  23. Hi Matt,a question about search for Islanders GM, what u think about former Rangers GM O’Neill( if he is still in ice hockey )or giving Garth Snow, he did make a mistake by not trading Trator Taveris or not hiring good coaches but he did make some good trades like Leedy or changing draft with Edmonton to pick Barzell or some good drafts. The current roster has most of his draftees.

  24. NY Islanders for sure need to make trades, and NY Islanders for sure need the big, elite proven talented players to get on the roster now.
You look at the NHL playoffs and we can just see it—the elite players on excellent playoff teams, simple.
