Filmed and edited by Blake Ernst @Blake_Ernst – http://blakeernst.com/. In June I was invited to visit the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch by my friend J. It’s been my goal for a couple years to be the first person to run and skim out to the wave. I had one shot at doing it. I took a video on my phone of the wave and studied the timing for over an hour in the back room on top of all the videos I’ve watched in the past and even watching it while visiting the surf ranch for the founders cup. Needless to say I was shaking like a leaf on a tree while standing on the edge. I couldn’t believe I was even standing there. When I originally told corporate what I wanted to do they wouldn’t give me “approval” to skim it, but I decided to go anyways for the slight chance I’d get the opportunity to try when I got there. Thanks to the awesome friendly and professional staff at the surf ranch, I was given an opportunity to try something nobody else has – Run, Drop, and Slide out to the Ultimate man made wave at the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch. The good news is I made the long difficultly timed slide first try, the bad news is corporate was watching over webcam and told the employees to not let me skim out to it anymore. So I decided I’d just do a standard jet ski step off on to my skimboard. Well, they didn’t want me to do that either since my skimboard didn’t have a leash. So we called the awesome maintenance guy over and had him drill a hole in my skimboard so I could attach a leash and still skim the wave. The Surf Ranch day happened to fall on the same weekend as a skim contest in Santa Cruz so here is our weekend adventure of Santa Cruz to Surf Ranch and everything in between – Ziplining, Skateboarding pebble beach, and Wakesurfing.

    "corporate won't let… " "corpo doesn't want" "corpo watching" wow, never thought I would see the day in surfing when "corporate" calls the shots, oh wait Da Hui has been warning us for years (Pipeline?LMAO). After reading about the corpo sell out watch dogging like big brother circa 1984, I can't never watch another KS wave video. Congrats WSL and their new CEO hard at working at profiting from the soul of surfing. Austin Keen you are the man btw.

    Hey Austin I absolutely love your videos! I want to buy a new board, and do mainly sand skimming as I’m still a beginner! It there a board that you would recommend for sand skimming? Are there boards for both? If so what ones are best! I’m shooting for around $75 or lower, as I don’t really want to commit quite yet! Thanks so much man! I love your videos!
