Bruins Sign Dans Locmelis | McAvoy Update
The Boston Bruins have signed Dons Lush Milis to a three-year entry-level contract. I hope I said that right. Charlie Makavoy looks close to a return. And what does the new TV deal in Canada, the NHL signed, mean for the Cap and the future of the NHL. I will cover all this in my video today. So, buckle up, Bruins fans. I’m here to give you the latest info on your beloved Boston Bruins. If you’ve been liking my Bruins content, please leave me a like and subscribe. If you’ve already done so, thank you and let’s get into it. He scores. With teams getting knocked out on their road to the Frozen Fer, we will continue to see NHL teams sign NCAA players. The Boston Bruins are no different in announcing their signing of Donsmel to a three-year entry-level contract. The press release reads, “The Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced, it says today, but it was yesterday, April 1st, that the team is signed for Dons Luch Milis to a three-year entry-level contract with an annual cap hit of $860,000.” I’ll get used to saying his name. I I do apologize. As you know, who watch these videos all the time, I got a hard time saying guys names sometimes. Dons Lush Melis will report to Providence on an ATO. The 6- foot 175-lb forward appeared in 40 games with the University of Massachusetts Amherst during the 24-25 season, recording eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points. The 21-year-old ranked second on the team in assists and fourth in points. He skated in 70 career NCAA games with UMass totaling 15 goals and 32 assists for 47 points. During the 2223 season, the forward played in 44 games for Lulu Lee HF J20 of the J20 Swedish Hockey League, tallying 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points with a plus 28 reigning. Lillis represented Lafia at the World Junior Championship in 2022, 23, and 24, registering six goals and four assists for 10 points throughout 16 games in three tournaments. He’s also appeared in 23 and 24 IIHF World Championships, 14 Lafia, winning the bronze in 2023 tournament. In September 2024, Lucas played for Latafia at the Olympic Games qualifying tournament, where he helped the team secure a spot in the 2026 Olympic Games, notching one goal and one assist in three games. My knowledge of him is pretty sparse, but the good news is a friend of mine, Dominic Tiano, wrote a great article on him, which I’ll leave in a link in the description. I want to share some of Don’s thoughts, but encourage you to check out his site and check out all of his news about any prospect in the Brown system. Don Lucellis is a 6’1, 175 pound center known for his versatility and hockey IQ. His ability to read the game and make smart decisions on the ice has been a hallmark of his play. Lucellis excels in transition using his vision and passing ability to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. He’s also effective in the defensive zone, disrupting opponents, plays with an active stick, and positioning. All this sounds great to me, like honestly. Dom also writes, “One scout described Luchmel as a player who possesses a deceptive attack when on the rush. He uses the width of the ice, surveys the situation for the right teammates and passes to them accurately in transition sequences. He protects the puck in the offensive zone, and is able to buy time for his teammates to get into scoring areas. Defensively, he attacks gaps in the coverage and reloads above the puck when his team loses it. This well-rounded skill set makes him a valuable asset in all situations. He also sounds like the prototypical Boston Bruins player for years and years and years. Even when my dad played, the Boston Bruins love a two-way game. Lucellis coaches have praised his worth, ethic, and leadership qualities. I don’t know why that was so hard for me to say. at UMass. He was a key contributor to the team success, particularly during their postseason run in 2025. His ability to perform under pressure and elevate his game in critical moments has not gone unnoticed. Don wrote a ton more on this kid, so please go check it out. He’s going to start in Providence, and I wouldn’t expect to see him have any time in the NHL this season. He was a fourth round pick of the Bruins and has shown signs of growth this year in the NCAA. And being a fourth round pick and now playing at Providence, good for him. It shows the Bruins can find depth later on in the draft. With any NCAA signing, I would say we need to see him play in the Providence before deciding his future. It’s one thing to excel in the NCAA, but we need to see how that translates to the pro level. He’s a big kid with a lot of intangibles to like, so it looks to be a middle six forward, but you never know how his development will go. As I mentioned, check out Dom’s article to get more information about him. My next topic is Charlie Makavoy is skating with a team and taking regular rushes now, which means he’s closer to return. Many fans comments suggest he should not dress and stay on the IR. Yes, the Bruins are bad right now, and at the time of this recording, they’re last in the Eastern Conference, and they’re poised to get a top five pick in the NHL entry draft. I don’t see that as a bad thing, by the way. They’ve stunk all season, so at this point, what does it matter? Let’s get that top five pick. There are some pretty decent centers out there. And after that six pick, the prospects out there, they they kind of lack the skill that the top six have. I don’t know how you keep Makaoy off the ice, though. He’s a hockey player and it’s in their nature to want to play regardless of where the team is in the standings. They’ve got a lot of young faces in the room now and new faces. They’re on a losing streak and he might be that spark that helps the team get over that hill to win a game. Ending the season on a high note can’t be a bad thing. I know it won’t make a difference about playoffs, but it will make a difference for his teammates. Makavoy might be the Bruins next captain and yes, he has injury trouble throughout his career, but I don’t see a reason to keep him out of the lineup and how keeping him out of the lineup will even help this hockey. Sacko mentioned he’s close to returning, which tells me we might see him in the next couple games. I want to hear from you though and your thoughts on Makavoy returning the lineup. The next thing I want to touch on real quick is Fabian Lysel not dressing the other night against the Washington Capitals. Sacko was quoted as saying, “You saw the game out there. Tonight was more of a lineup decision based on the opponent.” Here’s my issue with this type of thinking we see more and more in the NHL from coaches. How do you know the kid can play against these teams unless you let him? If a player is going to be an everyday NHLer, he needs to play against every team and learn how to do so. Lysel has had a very small sample size coming back up from Providence and he’s looked okay. Not great, but okay. The Bruins are not playing good hockey right now, but I’ve seen signs of improvement. The loss against Washington was okay cuz they actually played a decent game. Not a full 60 minutes, but they held their own against one of the best teams in the NHL this season. They had push back. Their special teams once again looked bad and faltered in the first period, letting Washington gain a lot of space and it led to goals. As much as we want to get on Swayman, and I do, I can’t see how I can blame him for the first two goals. He should have let Lysel play and not miss a game for the rest of the season. It’s sinker swim time for some of these kids, and what better way to learn by playing at the NHL level. I want to hear from you though and your thoughts on Lysel not playing because of the type of team he played. The last thing I want to touch on is some NHL news because yesterday the NHL signed a new TV deal in Canada with Rogers for 12 years. The press release reads Rogers communication in the National Hockey League today announced a 12-year agreement for the National Media rights to NHL games on all platforms in Canada through the 20 3738 season. The 11 billion dollar Canadian agreement starts in 202627 following the conclusion of the current landmark 12-year extending the strategic partnership over the two decades. Then the press release has some like you know PR stuff. The NHL is great. Rogers is great. But then they talk about some things that I want to talk about. Under the new agreement, fans will have access to more live national games than ever before. Fewer regional blackouts. Other highlights include national rights across all platforms, including TV, digital, and streaming for all national regular season games in English language. National rights for all playoff games, the Stanley Cup final, and all special events and 10pole events in all languages. Out of market rights for regional games, exclusive category sponsors for the NHL and the NHL 10pole events held in Canada. That’s like all-star games or any any outdoor game, anything like that. The agreement allows for possibility of strategic sublicensing for subsets of these rights including the national French language and the single night exclusive national package. That’s like uh here in Canada we get the Monday night Amazon. So yes, the game is on Amazon Prime but Rogers still owns the rights to the game if that makes any sense. And honestly hopefully in the US I hope you guys get some Amazon games or other networks covering hockey like we do here in Canada. So what does this all mean? This means that the cap will continue to go up for one thing, which is good because it allows teams to stay competitive and players that get the money they deserve. Some fans might not think the players deserve it, but for the amount of money the teams in the league make, the players are grossly underpaid. The more revenue the league gets, the more teams have money to spend on the more players will make. It also means that for Canadians such as myself, we’re stuck with Sportsnet Plus to watch any Bruins game or for any game for that matter for the next 12 years. I will say this to my American friends. Get a VPN. Sign up for Rogers Plus and you get every game because I’ve heard your TV packages out there for hockey are terrible. And it also means we should see less blackouts because they now have out of market rights for regional broadcast. But we’ll see. Because honestly, uh, regional blackouts drive me and most fans nuts. I’ll sometimes want to watch the Bruins playing Ottawa and I live in the Toronto area and for some reason I get blacked out and can’t watch the game. For my American friends, it means the game is growing, which is a good thing. Hopefully, it means that more networks like ESPN and TNT will show the Sportsnet broadcast so you can watch these games nationally. For those who watch Nessen, it means nothing and you’re stuck with a ticker at the bottom of the screen that doesn’t need to be there. Also, you’ll still be stuck with constant technical difficulties that you’ve been plagued with forever. My hope though, I hope it helps grow the game and gets more eyes on the game of hockey because there will be more cameras showing the game. I hope that Rogers does partnerships with the US broadcasters, leading to more games being shown in the US. The game gets shown in Canada regardless. The only way for the game that I love to grow is for it to grow in the United States. To my viewers watching this video, I want to know from you. Do you ever have issues watching games? I want to hear from you about this because I get a ton of hockey here in Canada and I kind of feel bad because I sometimes see in the comments that you guys have a hard time watching games and that’s not an issue out here in Canada. That’s a wrap on today’s video. To stay up to date on all the news surrounding the Boston Bruins, please subscribe and drop me a like. The Boston Bruins signed forward Dans Locmelis, Charlie McAvoy is close to returning, Fabian Lysell’s not playing is a head-scratcher, and the NHL signed a new TV deal with Rogers.
I cover all of this in today’s video of Bruins Diehards.

What do you think of the signing?
Welcome Dans šš¤
About half the local media here in Massachusetts are pronouncing his name the same. There is a local broadcaster who pronounces it differently each time he says it, so, he gets it right, at least ONCE!!! "Dansy" sounds like a good prospect. We'll see. It's certainly a spot we NEED help in. Now, to see how he translates to bigger boys and NHL level talent.
BTW, he's one of the premier Latvian players in the Bruins organization.
I'm watching games from Czechia. I can't really rely on our broadcasts because they are very sporadic and only broadcast some games – also I'd miss out on all the great play by play announcers because ours suck. So I tried to look at some NHL TV programs. Big problem without VPN. I'm not paying for a service for which I need to use a VPN that's silly. Also the prices are not really adjusted for … how to say this diplomatically… for market of a country with smaller economy? I'm trying to say the prices are nuts in comparison with our wages š So all I'm left with is to watch the games in the grey zone of the internet. (For about 5 years now)
How does the NHL Lottery draft work? We do have issues with the NESN broadcasts. Constantly freezing the picture, audio problems.
With Merkulov and Lysell it is pointless to bring them up if they are going to be buried on the fourth line getting 3 minutes a period if they are lucky. Merkulov was undrafted, with his contract being up, I am going to guess he is not going to want to stick around if he is not going to get a real opportunity to play up in the NHL. When he was up in Boston when all the scouts were in the building, before the trade deadline, the Bruins were shopping him to see if there was any interest. Because I am guessing he already made it clear that he wants to move on if there is not going to be any future opportunity.
Love the signing, hopefully he can transition to the pros.
Another 4th line player out of college. A Sweeney specialty.
it is a bad thing. sweeney cant draft worth shayt. i read an article already calling last years first rounder dean letorneau a bust lol. i know u take things with a grain of salt, but its believable based on the track record
I have Sportsnet+, I'm in North Bay. The only Bruins' games that get blacked out for me is when they are in Toronto. It sucks because I sometimes work evenings and can only catch the 3rd period maybe. With Sportsnet+ I can re-start the game and watch from the beginning. Plus I get to fast forward through the commercials and intermissions. Except when they play in Toronto. It's bad enough I'm surrounded by Leafs fans.
Itās completely irrelevant where the bruins draft so long as Sweeney is picking and their current development system is in tact
Sacco is clueless
Blackouts are the stupidest thing ever.
You pay top dollar to get a sports package from your provider, then most games are blacked out. So now you have to buy Centre Ice to see the games. If you live in Atlantic Canada, why should you be blacked out?.
Oh yay, another Rogers price hike. Somebody has to pay that 20 billion. I'm already paying too much.
McAvoy needs to 110% healthy before they consider putting him out there. I honestly wouldn't mind if he sits the rest of the year (will certainly help in the quest for a top 3 pick). As for the Lysell stuff, it's just more evidence that Sacco has no idea how to manage a roster, regardless of how bad that roster is. If you wanna put Viel in there for some toughness, fine….bench Brown or someone who is a career minor-leaguer and is older than most of the guys playing right now. Just let the kid play; how else are you gonna know how he responds to heavier teams?
Bruins have lost 10 straight, tank city. Stop the nonsense, I want heavy minutes for Lysell, Gorgei, Lohrei and the kid from the Leafs. Let these kids get some experience, not Patrick Brown. What is management waiting for, these games mean nothing, even against the Canadiens
It'll take me a long while to get that name.Right.Definitely don't feel bad. That's a tough one
Let Chara work with him put on 20 pounds?Muscle kid has a lot of potential.Looks like
bring him in at 200 pounds and watch him go
When it comes to watching the Bruins, I feel pretty lucky. I live in Texas and I'm subbed to ESPN+ so technically the Bruins are an out of market team so i have access to all of their games me based on location. The only team that I have regional blackouts for is Dallas, so if Dallas plays Boston that game is blacked out on ESPN, but the Stars have a streaming service where you can stream all of their games for free if you make an account on their app.
Yup. Clubs are good to go! Get some quality picks. See how Marchi fairs. pull for the panthersā¦.. to take out the Leafs – thatās all I want for XMAS!
Bring back Charlie for posterity and help support the young guys, build relationships. He doesnāt have to go ā4 nationsā level. Just teach the youngens.
From Canada. NESN, although I like the local commentary, freezes all the time. I also miss Jackā¦
I would agree in the case if Lysell being held back for the rest of the season because from what I've heard podcasters say about him this year : he's fragile, he doesn't like going into the corners and grinding it out. I think the Bruins are going to trade him in a package deal offseason. He's also too Light for the NHL, I don't see much of future for him but the Canucks have been crazy for him. Even if puts on 15 pounds or so he just isn't very aggressive it wouldn't matter.š¢š® See you kid !
The new deal for Rogers is good for keeping the Salaries & Salary Cap going up ! In turn as the salaries go up and up it will allow the Bruins to find it easier to trade some of these long term, No-trade or (partial No-trade) contracts because these deals look better. Especially get rid of Swayman and E.Lindholm, a couple Boat-Anchor deals and players Not performing the way they should. š
It would be nice if this kid could end up playing like his alumni counterpart Makar only as a forward.
You guys have no idea how hard it is to watch NHL here in Europe :DD. I can only watch the games live if they are being played in afternoon in your time…
I donāt want 73 to have a chance to help the team. I want to win 1 game the rest of this season, because I will never root to lose against Montreal. But I donāt want any wins beyond that
Yes… it sucks in US if you are anywhere near the Boston area… like the entire northeast is blacked out. I finally went back to NESN 360 this past season. The stream is glitch after glitch… the capitals game played for 12min before any of the announcer voices came in. The video/audio sync is a disaster. The video has a tendency to run 1.5x speed. I'm on 1gb fiber too. No other streaming service is like it.
Be nice if the B's got a top 5 pick in the draft. Been awhile. Was Jumbo Joe the last time the B's had the number 1 overall? I might be misremembering that.
How much is rogers+?
Thanks again Court. For the TV contract honestly at this point why blackout any games? Silly at this point. I wish TSN had all the games vs Sportsnet, as Sportsnet is brutal š
All these scouting reports sound great to the point you wonder what they mean. Sounds like a low risk shot so how bad could it be? I agree this season is done and letting the younger guy play is the only value left. Unless you live where your team plays, or your team isn't a super popular or good currently, it is a pain to get consistent coverage. The Bruins are always blacked when I try and watch them here in the mid-west anyway. Truly though the NFL isn't much better, Sunday ticket used to have an occasional blackout now it is an odd week when half the games aren't unavailable.
It just feels like yet another bottom 6 forward. At the NHL awards they should have a new category, "best gm and scouting staff at drafting bottom 6 forwards"… sadly Sweeney and staff would win every year
As of today Dans Locmelis is 2 point per game player (12 points in six games) at AHL.
Looks like first line forward to me. What a find, what a bargain. Great job Boston scouts.
Sounds like a medical medicine
