NHL Star Jeff Skinner Reveals Taylor Swift’s ‘Curse’ on His Hockey Career
NHL star Jeff Skinner reveals Taylor Swift’s curse on his hockey career. In a surprising twist of fate, Edmonton Oilers player Jeff Skinner has finally made it to the playoffs for the very first time in his impressive 15-year career. This milestone has sparked chatter among fans with some suggesting it might just mean the end of a peculiar curse linked to pop sensation Taylor Swift. Back in 2013, Skinner had a memorable encounter with Swift during her Red Tour where they posed for a photo together. In that moment, he proudly held up a Carolina Huracan’s jersey that he had signed. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as planned due to a little miscommunication. Skinner recounted the awkward moment, saying, “Honestly, I don’t think she wanted or knew that that jersey was coming.” The short version is that she thought that I wanted her to sign the jersey for me and I was there under the impression that I was supposed to give her this jersey and I’d already signed it. This mixup led Skinner to wonder if the infamous curse was ever really a thing. So, it’s a bit of a miscommunication there. So, I don’t know if the curse would have applied. Yeah, I guess. I mean, hopefully there’s no curse. The so-called Swift Skinner curse has become a light-hearted joke within the NHL community. It’s not the first time Swift has been humorously blamed for a hockey team’s misfortunes. For instance, LA Kings fans were less than thrilled when a banner celebrating her record number of soldout shows was hung in their arena back in 2015. After that banner went up, the Kings faced a six-year drought without winning a playoff series, leading to its removal in 2020. Interestingly, Swift also had a hand in promoting the Nashville Predators third jerseys in 2009, a year that ended with the team losing in the first round of the playoffs. Despite the missed opportunity to have Swift sign his jersey, Skinner is thrilled to finally be in the postseason after the Oilers finished the season with a solid record of 48-29-5. In a fitting conclusion to his interview, Sports Center anchor John Buchross playfully remarked, “There’s no more blank space next to your postseason record. Now you are in the postseason. No more cruel summers. You shake it off and go on. Skinner, who was a firstround pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft, spent the first eight years of his career with the Huracans before moving to the Buffalo Sabres for six seasons. Now, he and the Oilers are set to face the Kings in their first round series, kicking off on Monday at 1000 p.m. Eastern time.
