I do think he embellished to get the call. That would’ve been a weak boarding call too, just like the stutzle “boarding” on tanev in the first round. Neither should be called.

Definitely embellishment. Laughton slowed down as he was coming in and the hit wasn’t as forceful as it could have been. Rodrigues knew the hit was coming and the moment he felt contact, he buckled his legs, let himself drop and released his stick like he was paralyzed or something.
Tanev was hit from behind in the 3rd period, got ABSOLUTELY CRUNCHED from behind. No call, no dropping of the stick. He got up immediately and limped to the bench.
I'm a leafs fan – this call was absurd. When you have close calls like that you always have a moment of uncertainty of if you are actually hurt or not. Embellishment on this is ridiculous
As much as i hate the Panthers, I think if you make a call like that as a ref you either have to publicly apologize for the error or take a blindside hit face first into the boards to prove it didnt actually hurt that bad

The embellishment penalty came from Rodrigues going to the locker room when he was completely fine to look injured.

This reminds me of the Las Vegas Panthers Series in the finals with the referees absolutely unbelievably terrible calls
