Avalanche head coach on Casey Mittelstadt’s play
casy metal has had the has consistently had like higher number of shots pretty much since the season started yeah um is that more of a personal change with his line or is that something that you have like kind of talked to him with his role and just getting him to shoot more I don’t I don’t think it’s his line what whatever line you play on that your line mates have uh definitely have a factor in your offensive production and how how you could suppress is defensively because you got to work as a unit so credit to his linemates and they’ve been different and they’ve been young guys that are doing well it’s been OC um it it’s a mentality that we want him to have and we’ve talked to him about it he’s there’s no question in my mind that he’s a pass first guy he and and he’s and I would consider him in this league he’s an he’s an elite passer he saw the other night he had three assists and they’re all net front feeds to Guys open in tight spaces not a lot of guys that can make those plays um so that’s great but he’s getting himself into a lot of scoring areas because of his play his linemates play and I think there’s times when he takes too long to shoot because what he’s doing is he’s you know and I’ve talked about this he’s surveying who can he give it to who can he give it to is there a better option and then he’s going to shoot and guys are getting sticks on on his shots and and he’s he’s he’s turning some A’s into no chances or C’s now his passing has also created A’s for other people um so I want him to find the balance there I think he’s going to open up ice and when he sees it if he sees it quickly then use the pass and if he if he hasn’t seen it by the time he gets that puck on his forehand then let it go he’s got an I don’t think he gives his shot as as as much credit as what it is you watch him shoot at practice and I mean he can snap that thing so I I think he has to find a balance where he’s not just trying to make plays and set up other guys that he’s also being a little selfish at time and ripping in the back of that
Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said Casey Mittelstadt is an elite passer with an underrated shot.
