RED WINGS, OILERS, BRUINS TRADE RUMOURS: JEREMY SWAYMAN TO DETROIT OR EDMONTON?
[Music] Well, here we are. Boston, Edmonton, Detroit. Today we are talking about an article that was posted on to bleacherreport.com and this was from about a week ago week ago by Adam Gretz. It talks about one of the most polarizing figures in the crease this season in the National Hockey League and where he could potentially end up. This was posted about on April 28th and it will be linked in the description below. Here are six trade landing spots for Jeremy Swayman amid NHL rumors. Now, this is a very interesting discussion to have because when it comes to the player at hand, he stunk this year and I was in a position where I took him with my first round pick in one of my main fantasy draft leagues. I was drinking the juice. I thought that this guy would be able to sustain the level of productive hockey that he had last year. He was my first round pick in a fantasy league of 16 different teams. Is a keeper league, too. So, the pool wasn’t already amazing to begin with. In my first round pick, I took Jeremy Swayman. Two years ago with the Bruins, Swayman had a 920 save percentage. Last year, a 916. This year, an 892. He fell off a cliff and he signed on till the end of 2032 making $8.25 million a year. Now, one bad year can be seen as one bad year. Maybe the Boston Bruins are better than this. Maybe they are better in front of Swayman. Maybe Swayman is better than this statistical breakdown would indicate. 892 save percentage. So amazing. First round pick. Okay, I got to get over my fantasy this year. But Swayman is in a spot where the Boston Bruins could reasonably force a trade if you wanted to say they could be looking to change things up. This is what the article on bleacherreport.com goes out there and writes about. After a bitterly disappointing 24-25 that saw him finish with one of the worst records in the NHL, the Bruins need a reset. They might not need a full-scale rebuild, but a change could help them get moving in the right direction. One of the biggest issues they had this season was the fact that their goalending took a gigantic step backwards from previous years. Was Jeremy Swayman’s performance this year a fluke? Or is it a sign that the Bruins made a poor investment by signing him to an 8-year $66 million contract? No matter what it is, if the Bruins were looking to get out of the deal or simply make a change to their core, they have one year to consider moving Swayman before a no movement clause kicks in during 2627. Sportsnet’s Elliot Freeman has speculated the teams around the league may kick tires on the Boston Netmind on his 32 thoughts podcast. With that in mind, let’s dive into two of the six teams that Gretz writes about here in this Swayman article. This is what he says about the Detroit Red Wings, the third out of six teams. Speaking of teams under pressure but starting to get better, let’s talk about Detroit. They’ve missed the playoffs nine years in a row with six of those years coming under GM Stevie Y. Everybody in Detroit has been patient, but some of that might be wearing thin, especially after they did so little at this year’s trade deadline. There are a lot of problems all over the roster from their 5v5 offense at their overall defensive approach to the fact that they simply haven’t found a steady answer in goal. The Red Wings do have two veterans, Peter Morazzic and Cam Talbet, under contract for a couple of years and they have some strong goalending prospects coming through the system with Sebastian Kosa leading the way. that might not make them an ideal landing spot for Jeremy Swayman. But neither Talbot nor Morazzic is any short of a long or short-term option. While prospects in goal can be extremely hit or miss, projecting their performance over the long term is an enact science. Even if KOSA does pan out, having two good goalie options in the NHL for the long term isn’t a bad thing. The bottom line is the Red Wings were 22nd in all situation save percentage this year as a team and it was a big part even if not the only part of their goal prevention issues. And this idea is interesting because the Red Wings were dissatisfied with their goalending this year. There was a lot of moving parts. They got Huso out. They brought Morazzic in. Alex Lions going in free agency and the Wings are changing things up in their goalending coach department. So things are not looking amazing for the Red Wings in terms of their confidence and net. That’s not to say though necessarily that they would be on the hunt for another guy. They did just add Morazzic after all. But reputation would imply that Swayman is a better player than both of these guys who does happen to be younger too. The highs of Jeremy Swayman are much higher than what Cam Talbot or Peter Morazzic are realistically able to accomplish nowadays. But at the same time, it’s a risk because you don’t know if Swayman really is as good as he was in the past still. He just had a terrible year. So, would the Red Wings be a feeding ground for Jeremy Swayman to revive his NHL career? And what would the cost be, too? I mean, he should be lesser valued than what he was last year. He had a terrible season, so obviously it’d be a little bit easier for folks to be hesitant on a trade, but would Detroit be willing to capitalize on that? Could they go with another threegoalie rotation for next year? We know Stevie Y loves his three goalie rotations, but Sebastian Coast is knocking on the doorstep, too. So, where exactly do you find the space to fit this in with a Morazzic or a Talbot or a Swayman? Unless you have a Talbot or a Morazzic going over to Boston if you were to make a trade. I don’t know. Now, let’s dive into the final team here. It’s a lot easier to analyze the scoop because if you scroll down in the Bleacher Report piece to team number four, it’s the Edmonton Oilers, baby. Now we’re talking. If there’s a team that is going to be in the market for a blockbuster goalie move this off season, the Oilers have to be near the top of the list. It’s been a weakness position in Edmonton for years, and they haven’t made a meaningful attempt to fix it since signing Jack Cample in free agency a few years ago. A move that didn’t go well for anybody. Stuart Skinner keeps proving he is not the answer and they can’t keep going more years with Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle without winning a championship. Here’s an idea. The Oilers need goalending help. The Bruins need center help. Something centered around Swayman and Nen Hopkins. Yes. No. Maybe. Just an idea. The need is there, but the free agent options and realistic trade options are not. It would be a name worth exploring if you are the Edmonton Oilers. And yeah, I know a lot of people didn’t respond well to this when it was talked about with the Edmonton Oilers, but the theory is there. Cal Pickard right now is undefeated in the NHL playoffs. Knock on wood, that continues tomorrow against Vegas. But Edmonton has had such notable goalending problems. Stu Skinner sucks. Cal Pickard was an AHL guy just a few years ago and there isn’t really any consistency that you have with the guys that you decide to be the guy. Jack Cample didn’t pan out. Stu Skinner definitely didn’t pan out. I think this guy, the fact that he’s from Edmonton helps his case a lot because I don’t think anybody’s really going out there and expressing much confidence in Stu Skinner nowadays. He has been so bad. And I honestly think it’s gotten to a point where you can talk about how Swayman has underperformed in the past 12 months or so, but I don’t think anybody thinks that Swayman is any much of a downgrade from Skinner, right? I don’t know. Stu Skinner did lead the Oilers to the Stanley Cup finals last year and goalending didn’t technically lose them the Stanley Cup, but it’s just everything that we have seen at the beginning of these playoff runs and everything. It’s been so tough on Skinner. Swayman would be an interesting option. Now, I don’t know if a trade for Ryan Nent Hopkins makes sense in Edmonton’s POV. The NG has been in Edmonton since 2011. They know everything about him there. They love him there and he is a reasonably attractive center option for Boston. But still, I don’t know if Ryan Nan Hopkins is number one center material. Like he would be that in Boston. He’d be over Elias Lindholm, but I just don’t know if the Nuj is like a 100 point player without McDavid dry and everybody else feeding him up. He’d just be maybe even a slightly better version than Lindholm. But that’s just me talking here. You can let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Do you think this is a trade worth exploring? What are your thoughts on the other options if you were not to trade Nent Hopkins? What are your thoughts on the Red Wings potentially getting involved in the Swayman conversation? Boston fans, Detroit fans, Edmonton fans, let me know in the comments section below what do you think. Articles linked in the description if you want to see the other four teams that are listed as sway and trade destinations. I hope you enjoyed this roll on and bye. [Music] [Music]

Nah, Nuge wouldn't leave Edmonton. We are all hoping they replace Stu in the summer or he figures his stuff out.

Red wings have to try with Cossa, having him in the minors for another year is ridiculous
eht neitspe ofni si gnimoc…elpoep era ni gnidih
Actually, to be honest, I don't think Swayman agent would he not to argee with it in that term conversation involved with Detroit or probably Edmonton what if Imagine one for one goalie trade Joseph woll and Swayman would be perfect Scence
No thanks for the Wings. That contract is a millstone.
If the Bruins can swing a deal for Swayman, they should make that deal, particularly if it includes a good center. They can put several decent players on the ice and go with Dipietro & Korpisalo. There are several teams looking for good centers that have many more resources in terms of prospects and picks to make it so. The Bruins do not and acquiring help down the middle will most likely be much more difficult than they believe..and be more than simply about the money.
the Oilers dont have the cap space
I mean the Bruins would have to retain a lot of salary for Edmonton to be able to afford this and even then I'd rather the Oilers find a scrappier option to avoid that level of sacrifice. There's zero guarantees in goaltending
Dropping the hard P on Campbell gets me every time
Detroit has 3 good goalie prospects. One will probably work out. If swayman was 3-4 years maybe. But not 7 lol
