steals one?! or rather earned one, eh?
Apparently Canes have been conserving their energies during regular season. They sure as hell are not conserving them anymore because they are outhitting the opposition
was at the game and wasnât expecting such a defensive battle, but man did the Canes deserve to win. the 1-0 and even 1-1 score was deceptive. Caps couldnât get anything going all night
The thing about the shot attempts being lopsided is, it means possession is also lopsided. I know all that's been said about their inability to score in the postseason, but that's not because the system is flawed. I mean, would you choose to have possession of the puck less often? Of course not. They just haven't had the natural goal scorer that can play a 200 foot game – although I think Jarvis is close to that.
Having said all that, if the Capitals aren't going to get more than 14 shots in an OT game, they're not going to win any games this series. You're going to need more than 1 or 2 goals to beat this Canes team.
I hope Jankowski is good to go next game, the Canes pretty clearly missed him. The center rotation is weird with Roslovic in because he doesn't really fit with the other guys on the 4th line.
14 sog for an entire game. These playoffs are serious defensive battles. So many of these games have had 1 or both teams with super low shot totals, super bad save percentages, and low goals. Wierd.
Canes were buzzing all night. Their energy and aggressiveness was at another level. Faceoffs, hits, shots, possession, 50/50 battles. They outworked the Caps from the tip.
Dallas/Carolina Final.
Caps reminded me of that small home on Lake Pontchartrain right near the levees when Katrina blew in.. just demolished.. (& that's my team)đ©
Carolina stole it? Lol. Canes dominated the game.
Thank you.
I also feel compelled to point out, that was not Carolina's A game by any means
Caps got spanked. -Caps fan
Canes were buzzing all night certainly, but I could count on one hand the number of times that their "sustained offense" created anything that was significantly dangerous. Thompson made a lot of ho-hum saves, and only got hung out to dry because the caps were sloppy with the puck. I'm angry about how weak-wristed their passes were, and how they overthought the entire game leading to holding the puck for slightly too long all the goddamn time. But the refs handed it to the Canes in the third period. So many obvious missed calls against the Canes in the first 10 minutes of the third.
Carolina wins that duel.I bet 4-1
I have faith that Carbery will adapt based on the game tonight, but if Thursday doesn't go well this will be a short series
The caps are lucky it wasnt 4-1 with how many posts/crossbars we hit. As a canes fan this played out exactly how I expected and hoped, now we just need to turn some of those crossbars and posts into goals in game 2 and we will be in the driver's seat
If Carolina stops hitting the post theyâll win this series with ease in 5
Slavin is having a good playoffs, following a good 4 nations. I'm not surprised but he's having a great year
Uh Canes didn't steal this one. As a die hard Caps fan they pretty much dominated this game, but showed they are having trouble burying their scoring chances. Caps looked a bit shell shocked like they did in Game 3 against the Habs. I think the Caps will bounce back in Game 2.
Atricious by the caps through and through. PK was the only highlight.

Shannon is the best hockey mind there is. GM's are lucky that he values things other than $$ or else he would be an unreal hire for whoever landed him. He watches every player, every game – and actually engages his brain while doing so. Thank you so much for what you do and what you share with us <3
In the end you said, âclose gameâ. Only thing close was the score.
Canes vs Oilers SCF mark my words
Isn't Carolina just playing the way every coach wants his team to play? Get shots on net. The greatest scorer in history will be stuck with just one cup if the Caps continue passing up shots…
When the Stars drafted STankoven I started doing a lot of research on him and was super impressed. He earned some lifelong fans during his time in Dallas. I couldnt be happier that it was Stankoven who scored the game tying goal. The Stars traded him for "The superstar your team didnt really need" in Rantanen. The problem for Stanky was the whole team started cold. Roberston had that offseason surgery that put him off his game, and they bounced STnkoven up and down the lineup trying to fiugure out some combinations that could score.
I still think it was a mistake to trade Stankoven and that one will come back to bite the Stars in the ass, but they have traded to reacquire a player they had traded in the past (Sydor and Oleksiak spring to mind.) I think the kid is destined to be a superstar in the NHL.
Through the first 3 or 4 games of the Stars/Avs series I was wondering how much the Avs were paying him to not show up. Rantanen shut me up in game 5 with him and Hintz getting 4 points in a period to tie an NHL record, and shut me up more in game 7. Honestly the way the Stars ended the season with 7 losses, and long game 1 made it look like they wanted to go 4 and out, as they didnt want to disrupt their booked tee times.
Well, it doesnt look like theyre ready to play golf just yet. If the Stars dont win the Cup this season, I hope it ends up being Stankoven and the Hurricanes. Then he can call all his former Stars teammates and say "Check out my new ring" and to Jim Nill "Thanks for trading me"
All I got is a "whew" . And a reminder why I listen to our radio guys vs. ESPN's guys.
That was complete domination by Carolina. If the next 3 games turn out like this the Caps are done in 4.
Letâs go Canes!
Anyone have Jaccob Slavan being the OT scorer on their Bingo card? Yeah, me neither
The reason the shot attempts do matter is this is a 7 game series. it matters for going in to OT and the next game. this is a grind and they are being ground down
Wes McCauley was reffing the game.
"Ref you suck" is always a correct chant when he's reffing the game.
Remember when ovie koâed svech
Caps are a bunch of divers. They should trade for Stutzle
Caps played an awful game and were still one brutal turnover away from winning it in regulation. This is gonna be a long, hard fought, series.
the weakest, lamest play by the caps I've seen in a while. it looked like they came with zero motivation. Strome was not there, Beauvillier didnt show up as well, whole top line. Ovi? you cant play like that on home ice in playoffs. The Canes were too relaxed, you've let them do whatever they want. If Carbery really thinks they are doing great, you better pack your s*** and leave the round 2 already.
the Canes brought the absolute best play they can execute, hands down, while the Caps brought the absolute worst hockey they can only play, and yet untill Protas gave them basically free goal only 6 mins before the regulations, they were losing the game. thats everything you need to know about the series.
The color clashes with these uniforms is real. I have to keep thinking about who has the puck. Distracting.
âWould have been a blow out if the post shots went inâ
A lot of those posts were on the outside of the post. Except for Svechâs first post maybe.
Really this game wasnât close regardless of posts. And I couldnât have been more pissed off. Whip and PLD were completely non-existent, among others. Need to hit the gas for game 2 or it will be a sweep
This game was a real snooze fest compared to what I was expecting. Was a close game but the canes just used the law of averages. They donât care how the puck goes in they just threw it on net as much as possible and it seemed to work in their favor. That ot goal was a soft goal but even the best goaltenders are gonna let in softies if your shooting constantly. I was expecting a lot more animosity between these two teams. the caps just didnât seem all that interested in this one and Carolina played smart not giving up too many chances. I fully expect this series to open up and get more exciting but game 1 was almost a chore to watch
If canes stopped hitting posts they might actually score 5 goals a game lol
Carolina didnt 'steal' this game. They deserved to win. They dominated the Caps up and down the ice.
