Jordan Eberle’s goal in Seattle’s 4-2 loss to the Capitals was no ordinary score for the Kraken captain.
It marked his first goal since missing 40 games after separating his pubic symphysis joint in a hard slam against the wall on November 14.
No other NHL player had ever suffered the injury, so doctors consulted with rugby players.
Eberle underwent pelvic surgery in late November, not exactly ideal timing, as his wife Lauren gave birth just two days later, while he was still confined to a hospital bed.
Jordan rehabbed for 14 weeks before spending the 4 Nations Face-Off break practicing with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The right wing, who writes music and is an anti-bullying advocate, returned to the ice February 22.
The 34-year-old had 11 points in 17 games before the injury, and has 716 since the Oilers drafted him 22nd overall in 2008.
