Had the puck on his stick crashing the net. No intention for injury IMO. He plays rough tough hockey but not dirty.
THE REAL INJURY TO STOLARZ IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK. IT'S MUCH MORE SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY CAREER ENDING.
Sam Bennet is a friend of Anthony Stolarz. With a friend like that, Stolarz does not need enemies.
The INTENTIONAL injury to Stolarz is what in medical terms is called a crush injury. Normally, an injury like that is only suffered when you get T-boned on the driver's side in a car accident or during an earthquake when a building collapses on top of you. Normally you don't survive. In this case because the rest of his body didn't get crushed, he's alive. But if the injury is as severe as it could be, life for him won't be worth living. You are shooting pool. The cue is Bennet's glove. The cue ball is his ear and skull. The intermediate balls lined up touching each other are the outer ear, the now compressed air inside the ear canal, the eardrum, the delicate bones – hammer, anvil and stirrup, the oval window and the cochlea. The cochlea is the last ball and that is where the full force of Bennet's glove ended up. The cochlea is the organ that controls balance. Once that is damaged, recovery can be from a day to never. That organ controls whether you live as a normal person or as a person who can become dizzy and horribly sick in an instant for years if not life.
The other effect is tinnitus. That is popularly known and misunderstood as ringing in the ears. If that is all Stolarz gets, he'll be lucky. Most professional musicians develop it. That is the mild form or Stage 1 Tinnitus. Stage 2 is when you have more than just a ringing. You can have many sounds at once, in both ears, all random noises including what sounds like voices. Stage three is the dizziness, nausea and head noises. There is no escape but sleep, if you can sleep. Stage 4 is when the noise is so loud, hearing aids can no longer help because the noise is louder than the voice(s) you are trying to hear.
I've had this progressive condition since I was seven years old and have done a lot of research into it. The Ear Nose and Throat specialists who claim to be experts are essentially as clueless today as they were in 1957 when mine started.
Bennet should be severely sanctioned for what he did to Anthony Stolarz. I'm sure that when he did it, he thought it was an innocent bump he could get away with but when you point an empty gun at someone, you are held accountable when the bullet kills the target. This is an injury that I'd be surprised if Stolarz fully recovers from. Even if he survives the playoffs and his hockey career, that injury will eventually be back to haunt him. This is a tragedy in every sense of the word.
Leafs need to sign Bennet in free agency. Then trade him to Chicago and let him become irrelevant.
I think Stolarz was already concussed when Sam elbowed his head, because it was a dirty play but also it was pretty soft contact.
I love chippy players but hate guys that take headshots on guys Bennett Is Raffi Torres but he doesn’t get suspended because of Campbell and his dad
Bennet should be ineligible to play until Stolarz can play
The players' safety department did absolutely nothing once again. All we can hope is that someone like Pacioretty steam rolls Bennett and sends him out on a stretcher. A lot of people want Reaves in the lineup next game, but I think its too risky and will not benefit the Leafs at all. The NHL management has turned into a joke and is clearly biased against Canadian teams. If it was a Leaf player who did that to Bob, he'd be suspended for 2+ games 100%.
Leafs had better goaltending, in game 1. Huge.
The Leafs should put in Reaves. The hit he'll land on Bennett will make the Darnell Nurse hit look like a Sunday afternoon in the park.
Marchand on joining the Panthers, about Sam Bennet "HE'S STILL A SCUMBAG"!
bennett should honestly be suspended indefinitely. he's like a criminal. just because he doesn't do it every opportunity, doesn't mean he's not going to do it again.
I think there is something wrong with Tkachuk. He is not skating with authority, not delivering hits. Lethargic. Florida must hope he gets better, I don't think they win without a more or less healthy Tkachuk.
Anyone who actually watched this play and is unbiased can admit this was NOT Bennett trying to injure Stolarz. It’s really unreal how this has been made to be an issue. The puck to the head is what caused his injury and the fact he tried to go on but couldn’t is the issue. Bennett bumped into him. He didn’t go out of his way to hit him. I’ve watched this play, every angle you can and just don’t see it. Not at all like the Marchand hit or any previous issue. Bennett is that kind of rat but this is not a play that you can blame on him.
Bennett whipping his elbow into Stolarz' neck/head from the side is such a horrible thing to do, to anybody. What a pos sub-human being.
George Parros needs to be fired and/or investigated for corruption.
Florida & the DOPS are a joke & absolute clownshow
Nylander doesnt have a migraine this year. The team should deal with bennett.
Florida Panthers are the (New) Jersey Devils
Love you. But please address the Bennett hit properly. Why is it perfectly fine for superstars like Price and Stolarz to be hit in the head over and over, and potentially lose their careers. Yet Gretzky and McDavid are off limits? And, players like Gretzky and McDavid are not on their knees focused on a laser to save their team from elimination. Gretzky and McDavid are on their feet, see it coming, and can brace themselves. How many concussions and torn ACLs have to occur? How many 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E goalies do we have to see each team collect before the NHL realizes shredded knees and lingering CTE issues are not business as usual. Does Jacques Plante have to remove his mask?
If Keith was still coaching the Buds, they might have lost that game. But with No Panic Berube and No Pulse Tanev around, the Choke Metrics in the roster were significantly mitigated. I think there's a ghost of a chance TO might achieve something they haven't pulled off in 23 years and that's make it to the Conference Finals.
Despite being a lifelong Canucks Nation member and having membership requirements that include a robust dislike of the franchise from the center of the Canadian Universe, at this point, i will cheer ANY Canadian team that breaks the drought. A drought that coincidentally began in Emperor Bettman's first full year as Commish. I truly hope I'm still alive and he's still the Boss and I get to see the thinly veiled disgust on his face as he passes the trophy to the captain of whatever Canadian franchise that is able to do what at this point, seems like the impossible. Having 3 teams in the final 8 at least gives us the opportunity to dream for a little while. Bring it home (eh). 🇨🇦🍻🏒
Stolarz: gets utterly rocked by a 90mph puck right to the dome, clearly shakes him up, knocks off his helmet… he looks dazed…
Bennett: barely grazed him…
Everyone: "Gah!! Look at how Bennett tried to kill him! Stolarz is concussed because of that light hit!!"
People are crazy, man.
1 and 0 yerstday 18 and 19 record in the season
That 90 mph shot square to the mask had nothing to do with the concussion?
