‘I don’t see rationale for supplementary discipline’: Button on Bennett’s contact with Stolarz

Was the Sam Bennett contact with Anthony Stolarz dirty? If Stolarz is out, how much does that change the series going forward? What’s the biggest difference between the Leafs now and Leafs’ teams of previous years? Can the Leafs keep up with the Panthers’ physicality? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. it's a joke this guy keeps getting away with taking out players in the playoffs without consequence. Someone on Toronto should run Bobrovsky in the next game. Florida is a dirty team and I hope the Leafs respond.

  2. what's up with these talking heads carrying the NHL's water? Who cares about the injury source? Bennett had zero pressure and choose to slam into the crease on his own, and used the chicken-wing to the head. Any other player, sure look at the specifics, but Bennett? Kick him outta the game!

  3. When did Button EVER have a decent viewpoint about hockey?? These guys just conjure up reasons for videos….for clicks. They are absolutely useless as analysts.

  4. That's why Button works for TSN and not any NHL teams. He's a moron. I am not a Leafs fan but the contact to the head (WITH THE GOALIE!) was obviously intentional.

  5. Does rigging games happen in sports?

    – 1919 World Series

    – Juventus match rigging scandal

    – 1982 World Cup (West Germany and Austria game)

    – 2007 NBA betting scandal

Okay but that would NEVER happen in hockey…

    – first Southern team to make finals (LA 1993 – got there after Gretzky high stick missed called)

    – first Southern team to win cup (Dallas 1999 – won after Brett Hull foot in crease call missed)

    – second Southern team to win cup (Carolina 2004 – won after Martin Gelinas goal not counted in Game 6)

    – Wes McCauley's "conflicts of interest"

1993 Bettman becomes comissioner…by 1997 25% of Canadian teams had been relocated…he proceeds to add teams in Tampa, Miami, Atlanta, Phoenix, Vegas, Dallas, Anaheim, Nashville, Carolina….

Between 2012-2021 thirteen American teams lost revenue for the league (in millions usd)

    – Florida (-195.9) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – Arizona (-141.6) – GARY BETTMAN RELOCATION

    – NY Islanders (-132.1)

    – Carolina (-108.8) – GARY BETTMAN RELOCATION

    – Tampa (-74.4) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – Buffalo (-59.9)

    – Anaheim (-79.6) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – Columbus (-76.0) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – San Jose (-13.3)

    – Nashville (-64.1) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – Minnesota (-55.1) – GARY BETTMAN EXPANSION TEAM

    – St. Louis (-43.9)

    – Colorado (-23.5) – GARY BETTMAN RELOCATION

    Fun Fact:

Between 2005-2010 the Atlanta Thrashers set the record for most money lost by any NHL team in history…$130 million in losses in 5 years

    – 2005-2006 – LOCKOUT – the salary cap is implemented giving a CLEAR advantage to TAX FREE STATES (Florida, Tampa, Vegas, Nashville, Dallas, Seattle)

In the last 10 stanley cups – 20 possible teams – "coincidentally" 10 teams are in TAX FREE MARKETS….

50% of the teams to make the finals are from TAX FREE MARKETS….

    2015 – Tampa makes finals

    2017 – Nashville makes finals

    2018 – Vegas makes finals

    2020 – Dallas makes finals

    2020 – Tampa wins cup

    2021 – Tampa wins cup

    2022 – Tampa makes finals

    2023 – Florida makes finals

    2023 – Vegas wins cup

    2024 – Florida wins cup

So take a guess who will make the finals this year?

    – Tampa, Florida, Dallas, or Vegas….

¡?EvEr WoNdEr If ThIs Is AlL jUsT a BiG wAsTe Of TiMe¿!

Canadian teams have not won since 1993…

Meanwhile, every Canadian team generates money for the NHL.

Between 2012-2021 every Canadian NHL team generated revenue for the league (in millions usd)

    – Montreal (+678.2)

    – Toronto (+634.2)

    – Edmonton (+139.4)

    – Vancouver (+215.9)

    – Calgary (+70.1)

    – Ottawa (+50.9)

    – Winnipeg (+4.9)

Florida losses $200.8 million more dollars than Winnipeg (the smallest market in professional sports).

MIAMI AND TAMPA AND VEGAS AND ANAHEIM AND CAROLINA NEED TO WIN CUPS OR ELSE THEY WOULD NEVER EXIST…

THOSE MARKETS LOSE MONEY EVEN WHEN THEY WIN…A 30 YEAR DROUGHT WOULD NEVER WORK IN THE SOUTHERN MARKETS….

    Florida and Tampa:

    5 Finals….3 Cups….(Miami – 6,091,747) (Tampa-Saint Petersburg – 3,342,963 population) = combined -$270.3 million in losses

    Winnipeg:

0 Finals….0 Cups….800 thousand people using Canadian currency = $5 million in profit

Florida = -$270.3 million in losses and 3 Stanley Cups compared to Winnipeg…0 cups…0 finals…but they actually generate $5 million in profit for the NHL (and that is after losing over $40 million during Covid…the Jets STILL managed to generate profit)

  6. Habs fan here (not that this matters) and that was clearly an intentional elbow to the head.

He made no attempts to avoid or retract his forearm, you can see clearly he extends his elbow and forearm to make contact.

It’s a completely joke that he’s not being suspended.

This against a goaltender no less and in a vulnerable position. Even if it was accidental it should be suspension worthy.

  7. Imagine if one of the Leafs players did that to the Panther's goalie there would of been a penalty on the play plus a game Remember Max Domi got a penalty for being to close to Marchand

  8. It's hard to believe the goalie got touched in the side of his head and the rest is a complete show.
    It's hockey a contact sport.
In the UFC there's no head protection and they hammer their heads and faces for 5 rounds and walk away.
I'm a leafs fan but the way it shows it was a lot of drama

  9. Stolarz took a puck to the head. And then a low forearm from bennet. Bennet is unlikely to be the concussive force, more so than the piss missile he took to the head

  10. Parros and Bettman are both pea-brain idiots, period! Player Safety a f—ing disgrace to the NHL and the players. Dirt bag, Bennett's intentional act, deserves 3-5 game suspension! IT'S REAVO TIME?

  11. By not disciplining Bennet the NHL & DPOS is condoning illegal hits to head.

NHL IS CONDONING PLAYER INJURY AND NOT PROTECTING THEM.

NHL FINED CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS FOR “the organization’s inadequate internal procedures and insufficient and untimely response” relating to the team’s handling of alleged incidents of sexual misconduct"

NOW, NHL IS NOT TAKING ANY ADEQUATE RESPONSE TO A PLAYER WITH HISTORY OF CAUSING INTENTIONAL INJURY TO MULTIPLE PLAYERS.

FLORIDA PANTHERS ARE NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILTY OR ADEQUATE RESPONSE TO THEIR PLAYER CAUSING INTENTIONAL INJURY TO MULTIPLE PLAYERS.

COACH MAURICE IS NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILTY OR ADEQUATE RESPONSE TO HIS PLAYER CAUSING INTENTIONAL INJURY TO MULTIPLE PLAYERS.

  12. wow u guys in the comments are fuckin tripping or y’all are just dumb. there’s no penalty here and definitely no suspension needed. this is fucking hockey guys shit happens because it’s a rough sport wtf are y’all on lol

  13. guys a fucking loser. directly looks at stolarz head and drives his elbow into it but has the balls to say it was an accident and didn't realize they even made contact. He knew exactly what he was doing. He had already lost possession before his shoulder dropped down and connected elbow to head. He does this constantly against every team so they have an easier path.

  14. What stupid comments by Button. Complete nonsensical rambling. Im curious if this comes from someone kissing up to the league, or someone in the Florida organization.

  15. Clear head shots … not a rationale for supplementary discipline … FLA modus operandi has been blessed by the NHL and it's supposed Dept of "Player Safety"

  16. what is the usual rule for hits to the head? are goaltenders protected from hits to head like other players? since goaltenders drop low with head more vulnerable, is there practical way to protect goaltender from hits to head?

  17. People don’t seem to understand this is a different team. But whatever!

I’m not worried about Florida tbh and feel great about this team and this matchup.

    Go Leafs!!

  18. Completely agree with Button. Bennett could have really laid that in if he meant to do it. "Accidently-on-purpose"

  19. The NHL shouldn't give "the benefit of the doubt" to a known headhunter like Bennett. He hides his illegal hits, and everyone knows he's great at it.. and no call? Player safety and the refs have been a joke. Fla assistant GM being related to the man who makes these decisions is also a fkn joke.
