Dylan Larkin just called out the Detroit Redwings who have been in a bit of a limbo for the past decade. We’ll discuss that and more on today’s NHL hockey video!
Yzerman was right for holding serve at the TDL, but I get Larks' feelings towards it. However, not hitting a losing streak every year heading in to it, Yzerman could justify a move.
A lot of people don't understand how different hockey is compared to other sports. The average age of a draft prospect in the NFL is 23 compared to 18 in the NHL. Most of these guys still need to develop for a few years, ESPECIALLY if you don't have a very high draft position. Yzerman has been absolutely KILLING it through the draft while getting tons of dead money off the books.
Larkin has played poorly ever since the 4 Nations Cup. With that said, I’m tired of hearing all the excuses for Yzerman, he’s been here 6 years and hasn’t made the playoffs once. He has no urgency to make this team a contender because he knows his job is not in danger. If his last name were anything else he would have been fired by now and that is a fact. You don’t add at the deadline when the team is not playing well, but let’s not forget it was Stevie who put the roster together in the first place. A lot of it is his own fault the team keeps falling apart towards the end of the season .
Team wasn't good enough bottom line and it's not one persons fault. Larkin is right to have his concerns but it's a bad look as the captain to have that kind of attitude.
Dylan Larkin is Petr Klima without the flair. Put up a 95 point season once a decade and maybe you'll be in the playoffs. This mopey-ass Bert from Sesame Street looking mutha who disappears for a week at a time and loses every big face off down the stretch needs to look in the mirror, slap himself, step up and quit blubbering how tough it is to be a millionaire hockey player.
You know what else was deflated? Larkins pts after 4 nations. Maybe Larkin should shut his pie hole and be a better player. Right now he is an overpaid wanna be line 1 center.
i'm not going to make excuses for Dylan Larkin but did it ever occur to the media and others that he might have been hurt either during the 4 Nations Break or after that? Because otherwise, I honestly think there was a lack of focus or urgency to stay in the playoff race and really if Yzerman was going to trade anyone, who was going to go and where? I THINK it was a lack of focus and/or urgency because you have to win to stay in the wildcard and a prime example of that is the Montreal Canadians
One can be frustrated but also agree. The Yzerplan comes to fruition next season. was never these last 2. the worst thing that couldve happened was almost making the playoffs last year, keeping lalonde off the chopping block. he said DAY ONE!!!!!!! its about building through the draft, managing assets and being sustainable. too many one pump chumps out there who dont understand this is the future that was talked about when kenny holland mortgaged the future for the playoff streak.
I mean you said it best, while Larkin has every reason to be mad as they are pissing away his career, as the long-tenured C, this is his team, as soon as he gives up so will the team
Larkin needs to look past the tip of his own nose. I get why he would be frustrated as a guy who's prime is racing by, but that being said, adding at this deadline would've been a huge mistake. Team isn't good enough, period. His complaints come from a view where he is running out of time, not a view of whats overall best for the team.
I also think he's a bit of an asshole to say this so publicly when the team has sucked ass for a solid stretch heading into each of the last 2 deadlines AND he himself has been so incredibly mid lately as well. Sort out your own game before you go throwing stones buddy.
Shoulda traded Kane to add youth. They weren't good enough to trade young for temporary help to maybe sneak in. Trade Larkin. He's not a 1st line C that wins. Great player to have, on line 2. Now basically blaming no elevation to his game when it matters most is weak.
It's time for Larkin trade speculation. That appears to be the only thing that will make this captain start speaking and acting like a captain. He doesn't appear to have anything more to give to this team other than status quo.
When Yzerman came into the league, the team was bad too. Yeah they made the playoffs, but so did 16 out of the 21 teams in the league. Not hard to do. They were only legitimate contenders for 2 seasons out of Yzerman's first 10 seasons and he was playing FAR better than Dylan. Then they rattled off 3 cup finals in 4 years and 20 straight years of playoff hockey. These things take time, especially if we want to have long term success and not make the playoffs for a couple of years and get bounced early. The young talent that we have been accruing is starting to show. Kasper, Edvinsson, Berggren, Raymond, and Seider got great experience this season with the last two showing they can be rocks for the team long term. I get the frustration, we've all been frustrated without playoff hockey. But there is no point throwing away the plan when it is 90% of the way there. Realistically, who would we have brought in at the deadline that would not only get us to the playoffs, but make us legitimate contenders this season? And what would it have cost us? Because getting to the playoffs just to say we got there is pointless
How about acquiring a goalie that only gives up a goal or 2 per game, not 4+ goals a game. I've never seen so many "soft" goals scored against a team, as much as the Wings. Frustrating!
Sorry but this comes down to the players. They proved the last 2 years they can win. The last 2 years we’ve been in the playoffs going into March. Then both years they just absolutely collapse. They’ve needed to play playoff hockey to make the playoffs and constantly prove they can’t do it. I love my Wings but the way they played in the last month was abysmal. Watching the level of hockey in these playoffs, I can’t imagine this team getting out of the first round.
Larkin is justified, we haven't had a winning team in how long…? Tbh, i quit watching hockey when my wings started to suck because thats not the powerhouse redwings i knew, Go Lions #OnePride!!!!
Wouldn't it be better if we heard this directly from the player's mouth instead of you explaining what they said? Sorry but I have no trust in secondhand information..

I don't know about anyone else but think of these 3 line pairings on defense Detroit coulda had….
1. Seider 8G 38A/ Edvinsson 7G 24A
2. Walman 7G/ 33A/ Gotisbehere 7G 38A
3. Hronek 5G 28A/ Gustafsson 2G 16A😂
Stevie Why ?
Time for him to go
I agree with you. It makes no sense to mortgage your future to squeak into the playoffs just for a first round exit.

I like Larkin so much I hope he leaves so he can win a cup before the wings waste his career

Wings are a dumpster fire 🔥 management sucks, empty promises
So you babble on without showing the ACTUAL PLAYER making the statement . . . Stay off YouTube please

Larkins clock is ticking and he realizes that he probably will never touch the cup. Trade him and C Alex….oops you can't no trade contract.
Players fault they loss 7 games in a row and blow it , no one else to blame

Just be grateful you’re getting paid to play hockey instead of working 40+ hour weeks in the office or out in the fields you skate clowns

Larkin isnt going to get his time in the sun in part because ras, veleno, zadina, mantha were all underwhelming. It sucks but its true.
If the Wings don't make the Playoffs next year, I think Yzerman moght be on his way out the door.
Even if Detroit made some trades they wouldn’t be anywhere close to the top teams in the league.
I know this Detroiter is frustrated. Fore Yzerman

Trade 71 for 87
I like the visual upgrade. Should call the group Better than FIFTY FIFTY
The offense isn't the problem having the worst goalies is
Players jobs are to PLAY.
Larkin doesn't get to disappear the 2nd half of the year and act like trades were the problem.
Yzerman should have traded Larkin for some draft picks. Keep the Yzerplan going.
