I know I'm probably the only one thinking this but I would wait till mid season before offering a contract to Hutson. Lets see how he does when players adapt to him. He also needs to develop a shot
Tonme, whenever you talk about trades, it deoends on the return.
My favorite is Suzuki, does not mean he is not tradable.
Edmonton going to the SCF and are not going to lose two years in a row…. EDMONTON OILERS 2025 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS
keep him!
habs will be getting younger next year, so some negative regression should be expected…but a full year of demidov and hopefully improvements in the play of someone like slafkovsky can balance that out…if there's any real improvements made it will be over the calibre of 2nd line center we add. if its someone capable of being above 60 pts, i can see a 5 to 10 pt increase in pts. we also got a bit lucky with health in contrast to prior seasons.
Any way you look at it , there’s not a single team can afford a “power play” specialist . He has 5 goals at 5 on 5 ! This is just brutal , he scored 8 goals in a week where hockey wasn’t competitive against bottom feeder , 3 against Buffalo in one game . At 8.7 million a season , to even entertain the idea that this is good cause he scored a 12 goals in 20 days on the power play and was brutal , just garbage at 5 on 5 is retarded at best ! He turn the puck over 10 times for every shot he took , the power play rank 10 th at one point without Laine and then went in free fall due to the uncreativity.
The power play was moving faster with demidov and caufield at his usual spot , cause caufield is creative , moves his feet , unselfish and plays for the logo on the front of the jersey unlike Laine who plays for the name on his back
Laine is grossly overpaid and overrated, his 8.7 mil could actually be used to go get a star center to play demidov instead of wasting it on a bum like Laine who can’t play at 5 on 5
Habs should go after Bo Horvat – plays with pace, strong (100 hits last yr, rarely injured), avg 3 SOGs per game last 2 yrs, a great face-off guy (58%) and he will score 30+. Turned 30 yrs old in April, signed for $8.5MM through 2031
For me Laine is a 3rd line player
Shaun, you sound different in this segment. You sound like you're in a chamber.
I agree with Campbell 100%, he has the best insights I have seen from any podcaster or reporter thus far. I just want to add, I don't get the dislike or panic of so many fans for Dach and Laine. Listen to what Hughes and Gorton had to say on the matter. I just hope Laine doesn't listen too carefully or take to heart all the negatives from fans and media. Laine seems a bit different, personality wise from most, so I hope this doesn't sour him towards the Montreal market, who loves hockey; for a player who is trying to recover his love for this game. C'mon guys, have a little empathy, not everyone has an easy time with pressure or negative feedback. If these fans can take into account how consistent Laine was on the power play mid-season, you all should be happy to have him in this hockey market.
To keep or not to keep

Honestly I’m almost wondering whether to let DVO walk or to re-sign him to keep 11-28-17 together for next 2 years. That line was solid. I have no doubt that Evans could center 11-17 or maybe a Beck… but worth considering keeping DVO’s FO% and PK
Armia would only be blocking a young player coming up, so unless he’s ok with being a 13th forward for a good stretch of season I’d let him walk.
Laine & Newhook I’m not attached to. Laine plays out his last year or if he gets moved doesn’t bother me in the least.
Newhook isn’t skilled enough for top 6, not gritty enough for bottom 6…
Matheson I don’t want to see here next year, the left D is deep and Hutson should be playing Left side.
Ghule
Hutson
Strubble
Xhekaj
Engstrom
Trudeau
All guys I’d rather see play over Matheson
# 8 is defined the 4th best top 4 D on this team and there are 3 left shots on it with him in line up.
He is blocking LD and RD by forcing Hutson to play Right side…
If you can package Matheson & Newhook for a legit 2C bring it!!!
Heineman & Strubble should stay on as depth unless they can bring something in a trade… but id keep for depth & roles
We need an episode with sean campbell and marco ….. Let's get some real multi-layered analysis.❤❤❤
Great Show Guys 💯
I don’t trade Laine unless Crosby wants to be a hab. If we can get Crosby for Newhook , Dach and one or 2 firsts this year as it main pieces:
Laine Crosby Demidov!!!
I believe this is the year for the Leafs. Better goaltending and better defensively. It pains me to say it being a bruins fan.
He is a defensive liability. Slow & lazy. Trade him.
Trade him he can't work with a coach like Marty
I'm sure many mentioned it,
My take would be to keep him.
He's saying the right things and he is happy to play hockey again, does he need to work on his skating yes, does he need to back check more yes definitely. But there is still value for a player like him in that team.
I love Roope Hintz. He's exactly what the Canadiens need.
Sorry about your mic, @shaunstarr. We couldn't hear your terrific radio voice this time.
