Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk delivered a big hit on Jake Guentzel toward the end of their 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. After Brandon Hagel was suspended for one game for a hit in the previous matchup, does Tkachuk’s hit now warrant a suspension?

Since Hagel was in this exact series for a similar circumstance and similar game state, he also has to get suspended. If not, there are big questions about wtf the NHL is doing for the Panthers.

They should also take into account tkachuk taunting during the scrum telling Guentzel to keep his head up, blatantly conveying how he sees this as perfectly ok behavior. He’ll never class up in his life but atleast make the fair call for the series
If DoPS doesn't apply suspension history to the length of suspension in this case but applies it to someone like McDavid for a crosscheck to the face of someone actively wrestling him on the ice…

I just read that there is no supplemental discipline for the hit. If Hagel was suspended, then Tkachuck should have been too.
If they wanted to help the panthers out, should have kept Ekblad out for the year
Thank you for the only rational take on this hockey guy had me doing circles and loops about the Hagel suspension but then the no disciplinary action against tkachuk.
That's a great point. If you're playing to win the game, your intentions should be to skate to cirelli to attempt to block the empty net. Not skate to lay out a star player thats already out of the play. If you think tkachuk didnt see guentzels number and decide to hit him out of retaliation then you're delusional. There was nothing to gain from him hitting guentzel other than potentially injuring him and take him out of the series.
This essentially means it's open season for star players on both teams if they touched the puck even relatively recently if one team has a big lead late.

Anyone saying he should be suspended is a pussy and should stick to watching soccer, maybe even tennis. It was a body check not even 1 second after he passed the puck. You can't even count 1 1000 before he makes contact.

I can’t stand Tkachuk, but his hit was “clean” meaning not to the head etc. No injury, or time off the ice. He got 5 minutes (yes with 5 min left in the blow out game). That’s the difference between the two hits. The “touch the puck” isn’t why. When I saw the Barkov hit live, I was wondering why? Then the part of he didn’t touch the puck and the location of the puck. The announcers summed it up- It was as clean of a cheap shot you can have. He sent a message not to touch their captain. No injury, not loss of ice time. So I’m ok with no suspension.
