Brendan Gallagher had a very emotional moment on Wednesday when he swapped jerseys with a caring fan.
The Montreal Canadiens forward met a fan who wanted to return a special jersey after hearing that Gallagher’s mother, Della, had passed away from brain cancer earlier this year. She had fought the disease for three years.
Della passed away on March 8. Wanting to do something kind, a woman named Lucie Lachance contacted Gallagher on social media. She had bought his 2022 Hockey Fights Cancer jersey at a charity auction. On the jersey, Gallagher had written, “I fight for: Mom.”
After the Canadiens’ last home game of the season, Gallagher and Lachance met on the ice. They hugged, and Gallagher gave her his signed game-used jersey. In return, Lachance gave him the Hockey Fights Cancer jersey in a floral box—something to remember his mom by.
As they shared one last hug, fans in the arena chanted “Gally,” showing their love and support for Gallagher and his fight against cancer.

if there's anyone who's curious and doesn't know, the other stuff she put in the box was baby gifts for brendan's daughter everly, who was born not long after his mom died
