Dowd hit on Laine – is he injured?

Patrik Laine took this awkward leg check from Nic Dowd and appeared to come out of it holding his knee. He had limited ice time after this.

  1. I disagree on the foot position statement here.

Dowd's left leg could be much further right to get his outside edge as much weight as possible to turn sharply into a clean hit. Technically he got his left outside edge down to turn with, but he's leading into a check with his knee forward.

I'm not sure if theres a minor penalty for kneeing in the NHL rulebook (might be an automatic match?), but it seems like a rule that should exist.

Like, intended or not, Dowd initiates knee on knee contact. Similar to an accidental high stick, i think this is a hitting outcome that the league should want to get rid of.

  2. That exact knee was already held together with bubblegum and prayers. This contact probably didn't help much. Dowd has no excuse, it's not like he's at any point even trying to go for a body hit anyway. Luckily for him, he also doesn't need an excuse seeing that the refs were letting him do whatever he wants the whole night anyway.

  3. So the hit was so bad that it injured the entire line? Because Armia and Heineman didn't play either. Also, MSL saying: “As a coach, you make those decisions. You have this gut feeling, and I felt like the group responded when we shortened the bench, and I felt like it gave us a chance. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the next goal, but I felt like it was there, just didn’t quite capitalize.” doen't really seem like a coach upset his player got hur from a dirty play.
